Romania and Bulgaria join Schengen zone on 1 Jan 2025

They have had the right since 2007 in at least 19 EU states that did not impose any type of 'transitional measures' .
Th Uk did impose them & they were only lifted on 1st January 2014

They have always been the largest group in spain, who did not impose any transistional measures. Think it is around 1million+? by far the largest nationality of foreigners in spain.
I think Italy closely followed by Spain are the favoured locations for Romanians moving within the EU.

It's probably a language thing, Romanian is a Latin based language, closely related to Italian.

Some of my Ancestors came from Transylvania and Hungary . apparently they were serveants of Vlad Tepes in antiquity being Jews , later they were Hungarian horse traders and thieves and then wealthy horse traders in Imperial Vienna during 1st world war they supplied 300,000 horse a year to the Army . At end of 1st world war my Grandfather had to choose what Nationality to be as the Austro- Hungarian Empire was dissolved , He chose Austrian , when the Nazius came in 1938 they fled to UK and my Grandad joined British army , Thats why I have EU passport now .
Been in Bulgaria is nice ,, hope to get to Romania some time

War and persecution has always been a big driver of why people move to different countries. They generally then work hard and are good for the country. In Leicester there were quite a few Asians driven out of Uganda by Idi Amin they seem to have done very well.
We visited Budapest and Vienna recently both interesting places.

I find the Romanians on par with the Dutch for there linguistic ability.
Many speak fluently 4 or 5 languages. One girl we met spoke 13 fluently:
My Scottish friend moved to Antwerp in the mid 90s with his job, he met a local girl and married. I went to visit him about 15 years ago. They've had 2 children and he was telling me that they had to learn both Flemish and French plus the basics of one other language (usually German) by the time they are 12 years old. :Eeek:
I've lived in Wales for 22 years, I've tried and given up trying to learn the lingo. So if I'm in a pub and I don't want anyone to hear what I'm saying, I just revert back to my broadest Glasgow accent:giggler:

Difference is that my ancestors always assimilated local culture 100% some are in USA EU, Latin America even Asia and were hard working , productive , and inclusive ,, many of the immigrants now invading Europe do not do that.
They want to Change European culture and thinking . Its a mess and it worries me .

I am unsure if that is correct jerryz. Some of my ancestors are thought to have come over with the Hugenots. They were Calvinists of German and Flemish descent, who were then driven out of France because they wanted to change France's culture from strict Catholicsm to allowing protestants to openly practice their faith. As a result, about 3000 of them were killed in street violence by Catholics. Coming to the UK was a good move as we had more religious freedom.

What comes around, goes around!

A lot of the people in Leicester who came around the time that Idi Amin was in power are probably more traditional British in their attitudes than me especially in liking cricket which has always seemed more of a pastime than a sport to me!
Thinking all people of a certain ethnicity are the same is a bit like thinking we are the same as the Americans and Russians after all both nominally Christian and of similar appearance

Many Hugenots were skilled lace makers and brought their skill to UK and were very successful here .

I think every wave of displaced people in the past have probably brought their own skills and a desire to make the most of a new chance in life. Maybe a good day to have that thought in mind ( despite my lack of any religious beliefs)

This describes much of Morocco also, I'm constantly surprised by unlocked bicycles, cars with keys in etc, even in Marrakech Ive seen stallholders going off to prayer just pull a sheet over their stalls. I'm not sure you could get way with some of that in Shropshire.
The difference being is that they have very strict laws on crime not like our country where the criminal is treated fairer than the victim.

Having been a victim of crime on three occasions I can remember, including in the last month, I totally disagree with you.

My apologies to Romania/n's.
I meant Albanians.
A yachting holiday based in Corfu, the group leader advised ensuring the yacht was securely locked on a night if not onboard as the Albanians come across to Corfu harbour in speed boats and rob you blind.
