Romania and Bulgaria join Schengen zone on 1 Jan 2025

Those two countries may see a downturn in visitors by joining Schengen if being outside was one of the draws.
The question is in their economy as a whole how big that really small loss ( given it only applies to non EU residents staying over 90 days and the proportion of them choosing that destination) is compared to the overall economic benefit

I was accosted by a Young 'lady' outside Oxford Circus tube station where I had arranged to meet Hilary on one occasion. She wanted to know if I wanted some business. I have no idea what she was on about. 😲

If you had pulled out a £50 she may have enlightened you👍🤣🤣🤣🤣

Borders was kept for big fat cats at the top to skim it. Now the lorries are free to trade with the rest of EU, without contributing to corruption officials gangs.
For Ro the Schengen is a plus and an advantage equal to the rest of the states. Few UK motorhomes will not like that? Not a problem.
The benefit being in, outweighs the small negatives many times over in revenue. Majority of Ro tourism, is not from UK by a long mile.

I do agree Raul 100% 👍👍

Glad I live in a country where you can leave your front door unlocked, your motorhome parked where you want with keys in the ignition, walk around all night with no fear of the bogey man and everybody gives you a polite wave whilst letting you pull out of a junction in your car....
At one point people could 😊

Yes Tam, unfortunately I don’t think ROM and BUL will be a “go to” destination for vans now they’re part of Schengen, in fact as far as tourism goes for non eu states I think it will be a rarely visited part of the eu. However it might entice more eu citizens to visit, so I don’t think they will miss our money, it’s a shame for us though, as I was looking forward to visiting these countries to dodge schengen when we retired and started travelling, but now I feel there are nicer places to spend Schengen days (no offence meant to the citizens of these countries)🤷🏼‍♂️
Son just spent 3 months in Bulgaria. He would recommend it

Been to Bulgaria a couple of times (not in MH) as DiL is Bulgarian. Absolutly loved it.
Not been to Romania as yet but hoping to do so in 2025.
This Shengen lark i am not concerned about as we won't be in EU long enough for it to effect us....................i don't think.

I was talking to a Romanian lorry driver a year ago, he said it’s ok, but the cops will try and rob you blind, they will find an excuse to get money off you…….from a Romanian national🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

An ex work colleague was pi$$ing in the sea in Bulgaria, cops waiting for him, marched him off to an atm, 200 Levs later they let him go, split the cash and put it in their pockets!
No sympathy for him, they should have extracted more off him🤷‍♂️🙄
The Romanian border from Bulgaria is the only one I've ever been detained and almost refused entry. Given a load of nonsense about not being able to enter the country without an invitation or a hotel reservation etc despite being in a camper. They kept me parked at the side for well over an hour. He did enquire if I was carrying any cash etc .. eventually when I said I'd turn round and go back to Bulgaria ( planning to use another border ) they just sent me on my way.

I think the point for them is it will make it easier for their citizens to work in other parts of the EU, although seems already to be a huge amount in Spain.

We did a road trip of Bulgaria 20 years ago, fabulous place. By far the dullest bit was the Black Sea resorts. Inland there were some fabulous places.

We fancy Romania but it’s such a long way in the van you need a couple of months. For us it’s all about seeing new places and people as well as going to the countries we enjoy like France and Spain.
I didn't like the black sea area of Bulgaria much either but lots of nice bits. Romania has some very interesting places , lots of history lots of old fortified churches etc , castles including the proper dracula castle , transylvania is a lovely area . I would love to go back BUT it was definitely more inviting when it didn't count towards shengen time because as you say its a long way away and a lot of other shengen countries between here and there.

It also has the transylvania highway, supposed to be one of the worlds greatest roads (might not do it full justice on a scooter though )

I doubt it will have much of an impact at all. Motorhoming/camping is only just taking off in both countries. Very few sites even around the main cities ie tourist attractions and that’s where they will spend.

Most of the vans we saw were Dutch and German and a lot of those were transiting through Bulgaria anyway not touring. You’d not overwinter there. Just extend the season a bit.

I did Transfagarasan on a honda vfr 2 up, another better road than that is Transalpina, or even Transrarau further up north. The real unspoiled well preserved traditions and cultural area is Bucovina, right up north east bordering Ukraine.

Did you mean a County instead of Country? What you describe does not resemble my experiences in the UK.

I think it could have been said a little tongue in cheek at the idea that people in other countries were less polite

I wouldn't go to Romania at any cost......they'll steal the snot from your nose if you aren't careful
I worked in the Romanian oil industry I fund them in general honest hard working folks.
There’s an element of bad in every country no more so than the uk .

Depends how big the scooter is? I reckon it’d be a blast on my 350 SH👍👍
Ive got a nice scooter (Aprilia 300) with proper suspension and 3 discs but the cvt kills it. Often wonder what the Honda Integra Scooter with DSG would be like but they're really rare.

We have a residential let with a Romanian welder living there for the past 6 years. He seems a model tennant. The local boatyard actually asked if we wanted to turn it into a residential let when they were looking for somewhere for him to live and house his family. Evidently it's difficult to find British people with the welding skills willing to work building trawlers.

I have a Yamaha Xmax 300. Great fun but harsh suspension 😱
I got a T-Max 530 when they first came out in Spain. God that could shift for a "scooter".

They have had the right since 2007 in at least 19 EU states that did not impose any type of 'transitional measures' .
Th Uk did impose them & they were only lifted on 1st January 2014
although seems already to be a huge amount in Spain.
They have always been the largest group in spain, who did not impose any transistional measures. Think it is around 1million+? by far the largest nationality of foreigners in spain.

You have personal experience presumably. If so, it is diametrically opposed to mine.
