hi all
Where's the nicest place you've toured in your mh, have you been nicely surprised by anything unexpected?

Hi folks,
I would say every trip is a great one - even if things don't go well, we learn from them. A few years ago we went off on our summer trip heading towards Dover. We got 20mins down the road and the grearbox failed. 5 hours sitting on the grassy bank next to the A20 - recovery back home, a day in the local garage to fix a bit of plastic in the selector and then back on the road again. Even that trip turned out to be great.

I would suggest that everywhere you go is as fun, interesting, relaxing, exciting and memorable as you make it - Even Dartford has an interesting bridge!

Not a question I can answer. I've done 10 or so countries in the motorhome and enjoyed them all in different ways. Pre motorhome I did a lot of world travelling and feel the same.

I'd say the most interesting places are the ones I've yet to do!

Never been one for doing the same place twice.

North coast 500 for 17 nights. We also decided on a impromptu trip over to harris for 2 nights. We opted out of the Bealach route and choose alternative which has amazing scenery and no sweaty palms or scratch’s 👍

I agree with you jongood. NZ-made motorhomes are very basic and utilitarian. The majority are made for the rental market and as such they tend to be well-built to withstand the wear and tear, but they have no niceties!
Kiwis, who like to wild camp, tend to buy Australian-made motorhomes and caravans which are often designed to go off road.
We imported our Autotrail from the UK in 2016. It has had a very hard life here and has withstood the rigours better than we expected, but there’s rarely a trip without needing to do repairs of some sort or another, usually to the window fittings and other fiddly little things. Plus the strong UV from the sun damages the plastic pieces outside, making them discolour and brittle.
In fact, I’m currently trying to source new decals for the bonnet. If I find some, would someone like to volunteer to bring them out here? They should fit in your carry-on case!
lived in NZ in the 80's before the motorhome craze and it was all house trucks, some real beauties too. are they still around?

Hi PB2019 and we went with the Adria M.H.club and stayed at a campsite right across the road from Lake Bled which is a fabulous place ,highly recommend a visit to the church on a little island in the middle of the lake which you can get to via 2 row boats which is the only type of boat apart from electric ones aloud on the lake . Wonderfully lake to swim in to as its crystal clear with no pollution!. Hope you enjoy it and the site was booked through Alan Rogers Travel .

I’m glad you said Suffolk. It’s where we live and certainly a great place to visit especially our town Bury St Edmunds which has a great aire right in the middle. Ram meadow car park, basic but you can overnight for a few quid..Coastal is very quaint as well.
Phil
Recommend Ram meadow. Stayed there a few years ago on way back from Harwich ferry. Lovely visit to cathedral followed by a good curry on a roasting hot day. Well I had some withdrawal symptoms.

Hi Cliffyboy we are going to Slovenia in May and June do you have any suggestions of places and sites to visit.
If you are planning on going to the capital Ljubljana, then Gostilna pri Kovaču is excellent (link below) It's a pub/restaurant about 8km out of Ljubljana. €10 a night but if you spend over €25 in the restaurant then its free. Call or email a few days before to reserve a place. The bus stop is right outside and takes about 20 minutes into town. Ljubljana has to be one of the smallest (and nicest) capital cities we have been too. Plitvice lakes is also good but if going in summer get there as soon as it opens.

Just come back from two weeks in the Netherlands, beautiful place, lovely people and the roads made ours look a third world country.
It’s not just the roads. All of their infrastructure is amazing. They engineer it well and build it to last. Quite a remarkable place (we spent quite a lot of time in Friesland on our barge, and it has a desolate beauty. NL doesn’t remind me in any way of another country which builds to the cheapest price or via their mates, oh no.

I wouldn't recommend swimming in lake bled, Janie caught Typhoid fever after swimming in there in 2017. 🤔
🙂 Camping Bled is a nice site. 😎 Bob.

Yes, there are still quite a few house trucks and even more converted buses.
The house trucks are generally the permanent homes of the hippy-types and they travel around the country selling handmade jewellery, candles, soaps, art and “stuff”. They occasionally organise themselves to hold “Gypsy Fairs” in towns and people can have a look inside their eccentric homes.
Unlike the UK “gypsies” they are not a problem, they don’t set up camp en masse and they don’t leave rubbish. They’re more like eco-warriors.
NB This is my personal evaluation and probably a generalisation.

Another vote for New Zealand. Uncrowded roads (apart from Aukland :(). Fantastic scenery and wildlife. Did our research and hired a decent motorhome (6m Carado coachbuilt) not the usual big rental company hacks. Enjoyed the experience so much we bought our first motorhome on our return :giggle:.

Some of our trips are listed in my signature. I enjoyed Norway a lot, and went again the following year. We are now exploring Spain, especially the North in the summer. The North of Spain is so different to the Murcia region where we live, and will take us years to explore it all.

The North West Highlands and the Inner & Outer Hebrides' (y)

As I was typing and wrote the word Outer, the spell checker added the word 'Space' I was tempted to leave it:rofl:
