My Agenda with the “Toad thing” extends beyond that! I’ve been campaigning on trailer safety in general for many years.

Specifically with reference to TOADS though, I want the DfT to have a different vehicle classification for them, other than a trailer. The DfT say they’ll accept them as legal provided they comply with trailer legislation, which they can’t in it’s entirety.
At that point, they can have their own, relevant rules & regs, including checks, minimum standards and if necessary, approvals.

The ultimate aim is that everyone knows whether or not, their product is safe & legal.

Pipe dream? Maybe…. But I’ll continue campaigning!

what I’ve done is reported an update that The DfT have issued an amendment to The Trailer Registration Regulations 2021

it’s simple really!

You may like to tell the a-frame supplier who was advocating registering your car as a trailer what your views are.

And as for the possibility of getting the Guardia Civile, the German cops or any other cops to recognise your paperwork that says the very obvious car behind your Moho is a trailer, good luck with that. Just leave it and be thankful that we can actually do it here and it's also OK in Switzerland but you have to get there first. Best chance for that would be through France since they don't seem to care, even though it's probably not in their rule book either.

Registering your TOAD (towed car) as a trailer (as recommended by one leading a-frame supplier) is now, officially, illegal. Yesterday, I also received an email from the DfT confirming that existing trailer registrations made in this manner will be cancelled by the DVLA. The applicants will lose their £26 fee. #TowLegal #TowSafe #TowSafe4Freddie

I'd have thought that this was obvious, these leading aframe companies, Ive listened to some of the sales pitches by these aframe sellers and the $#!t they spin you telling you that you can use it abroad as it actually becomes a trailer and that you should display a Remorque sign on it and stand your ground when challenged by the traffic police abroad, arguing with a cop with a gun, good luck with that, I've never tried taking my road abroad just not worth the hassle, a trailer is the only way ....just sayin...

Blimey! I got a slapped wrist from Jim when I called someone out a few years ago. Going by what he told me then, some on this thread should have been booted out by now! Conniedriving is probably the worst, it beggers belief that anyone can be seething at someone giving the latest information. Agenda or not! I have a tow bar on all vehicles and tow a trailer. I don't and wouldn't tow a car. If I wanted that setup, I would buy a caravan!

But I agree that A-frames need more regulation as they attach to the front of a vehicle which is deliberately made to give way in the event of an accident. Those that tow with an A-Frame and accusing Tonyemm of an agenda... How ironic! Your disagreement in such vociferous term is showing that you also have an agenda!
