Re upholstering a van interior

What planet are you on, just need to check you haven’t missed a planet or two ?
Certainly not the one where 6 weeks in a hotel costs 36k

Here's the thing

The type of person who stays in a hotel that costs 36k for 6 weeks does not buy a swift.

You're mixing 2 different classes there old chum.

This is crunch weekend, double and triple checking choice, it’s huge money, can’t see any other option, just trying to work out a pick up date. I wanted to take grand kids for half term holiday in it 20th Oct for a week, but dealership is empty due to NEC so not possible, other than that I don’t need it until next July, so do I pay and leave it there until next year free as they offered, could they go bust and I lose it, it is at the dealership so would be left in a compound with no TLC at least at mine it is plugged into power and heated. What would you do?
My doubts with the Swift were sloppy finish, this is all being put right as it should, it’s not a lot of money in real terms compared to what I saw in Germany and as it’s just a means of transport and sleeping for 6 weeks in the summer well within our budget, 6 weeks in an average hotel in St Tropez area for 2 rooms is £36,000, we did look at properties in Port Grimaud to buy but having been there for 9yrs the novelty wears off and out of season it’s dead. I had a nanny and her brother was actually a live in warden there, we took the nanny to France with us and met him so I got some inside knowledge, not for us I’m afraid.
One minute it's huge money

The next it's not a lot of money

It can't be both.

Are you perhaps bi polar?

Sorry I don’t understand, please simplify ?

Sorry I get it now, yes £70,000 plus is huge money, but in the scale of what you would pay for example to a hotel and have nothing to show after not a lot of money, also compared to buying a holiday home and running it not a lot of money.

So yes huge money to purchase but not compared to other options is I guess what I am trying to say. £10 could be huge money to someone with nothing, I just don’t really understand what you don’t understand or why it matters, the facts are there, to some it’s nothing to others a lot if you look at German offerings ?

I never said I stayed in a hotel that costs that, and trust me that is cheap in St Tropez, check July and August prices! What I am saying is if we did NOT have a motorhome that would be one of our only options, the other is a mobile home at £2,500 a week, camping costs around 60 Euro a night plus of course cost of motorhome and getting there, BUT after say 3yrs you still have an asset, if you paid for a hotel or one of those sheds NOTHING. How hard is that to understand

The thing I would be concerned about is how well the vehicle has been put together generally. You’ve obviously visually identified a poor finish but what about the things you can’t see.

If I were you I’d buy a good quality secondhand German vehicle and abandon the Swift while you still can. You could get leather upholstery you want and be confident of the build quality. You have until next summer to find something much better than the Swift.

Ok let’s have a last roll of the dice, what? I need end lounge, 1,000kg payload, under 8m, NOT tag axle, 6 berth and 6 travel seats, front lowering bed that does not block the exit door so Burstner 744 excluded! Good luck as I have done my best and could not find anything! Say £100k max so allowing an extra £20k to have a German ?

You're comparing a high end holiday with a budget van

That's what's not to understand

Very similar to the video you posted last week comparing a hymer with a swift where the first mistake the guy said was this is a swift and this is a Mercedes

You can't do that and get a fair result

It wouldn't matter if the swift was also on a Mercedes chassis it still would be a cheap conversion compared to a hymer.

Swift v hymer

Mercedes v fiat

Skegness v sant Tropez

That's how you do a comparison

Quite frankly having spent 9yrs in St Tropez with all the knobs and poncy people I would more than likely choose Skegness! I go to the SofF for family political reasons ONLY, who wants 6 weeks in a hot desert beach, with jam packed roads rip off prices, anyway it’s nothing to do with you, so live and let live, why are you always so nosey?

Is the swift you are buying under 8m?

I thought the 596 was 8.11m

You seem to have done your homework pretty comprehensively so if you have identified that the Swift is the only one that fits the bill I would say just go for it and get on with enjoying life.

DEFINITELY NEVER. leave anything with a trader, I had a piece of expensive computer equipment in the hands of a trader who went bust. Got paid out 10 years later @ 10p on the pound!!!!. A Pal. left a 38ft Artic Trailer in another company's yard. The bailiffs went in on instruction from the receiver, and he lost the trailer!. Not funny if you are a sole trader Owner/Driver.

Interesting reading

Thank you, that really was a fascinating read and very true.

What concerns me about this is that if you don't use it for a while before your 6 week holiday you will NOT be able to identify, and rectify, any faults with the equipment. Don't think for one minute if you do find a fault it will be fixed immediately, it can take MONTHS for some parts to be sent to the dealer so you could end up with your MH out of action for the summer months when you need it.

As you would be staying on a campsite with the MH why not just do a summer rent of one of the lodges/chalets/static caravans on a site instead? No worry about stuff not working, plenty of room for you all, no massive outlay ....

I really cannot understand your thought process about buying a new MH being the best option for you as that will depreciate a lot so the 'asset value' you are talking about IMV will be a lot less than you think it will be.

I don’t think any of us understand his logic! He keeps asking for advice, good advice is given but it is always shouted down by difficult to understand reasoning or ignored completeley and then another thread started. I’m as bad as anyone else though and get dragged in!

Why oh Why do I keep on reading these threads?!
‘Er indoors, aka The Duchess keeps telling me to get orf my ass and cut the grass........good advice, which I’m happy to pass on to others:D:D2:LOL:

I'm off to read something less confusing, perhaps Jeremy Corbyns' election manifesto or Donald Trumps book of ethics :whistle2:
