Put me out of my misery

I make my own bread, sometimes it rises like mad = tall loaf, sometimes it doesn’t = short loaf.
They all go in the MH toaster, some have to be flipped to get done at both ends, it’s all part of the fun.
Hey-ho, what we do to get a decent brekkie

I use a large, raised sides, non-stick, cast iron, flat hot plate that stretches over (on top of), two of the front gas rings on my 4 ring cooker.

This allows me to be able to regulate the heat to either side of the hot plate (lower temp. over the smaller ring)

I can fry my bacon, tomatoes, mushrooms etc. move them to one side, add a little butter/olive oil to the bacon fat, cut a couple of slices as thick or thin as I want from my home made loaf, lay it on the fat/butter and fry before turning them over to the now dry plate to toast the other side.

Load the bacon onto the warming cooked toast, move over to the side and fry eggs.
Put toast, bacon, tomatoes on my wooden breakfast plate and add fried eggs, sit down and, Enjoy!

No need for EHU!

Being in the van for us means not having a toaster, electric kettle, microwave, oven or grill. Its great to live differently to the way we live at home.

Another (y) for Dualit have had their classic 4 slice Toaster and Kettle for the past 8 years and still going strong. Had to replace just one element and sent the kettle off for new viewing windows which had glazed over and they replaced them for free. Not for a motorhome necessarily as a 4 toaster is a big lump.

We gave up on toasters in the vans some time ago - never toasted properly, took up too much room. Used to use the grill, but when we moved to the PVC one of the prior considerations was how to do toast! Found dry frying in the larger frying pan we have, which is quite heavy, worked fine, so happy to get rid of grill which always needed watching. Have been quite happy dry frying.
I like the idea of the flat hot plate L'Hobo - any idea of make or further details?
PS how do you get the names to highlight?

No need for an electric toaster. They just take up too much room. We a simple rack that you put over the gas burner. It works beautifully.
exactly what I was going to say, have had these since camping days "under canvas" and yes, I do mean canvas

Not sure of the name as I got it many years ago at one of the VW shows but I'll have a look tomorrow.

As for the name.....apparently it's something to do with a curve or straight comma thingy, Sorry!

We've never bothered with a toaster in the van - or when we had tent, trailer tent or caravan. The nearest we get to toast is a sort of cheese toastie where we make up a cheese sandwich, dry fry one side and then flip over to do the other side!

the thing with dualits is every spare part is available my brother pulls them out of skips and landfill refurbs them and sells them
We have a 4 slice toaster at home which takes full size slices, it is an Asda "George" special s not much help but worth looking.

The problem is always size and how well it fits in a drawer with the other pots and pans so it will always be a bit of a compromise and if you have to trim the slice of bread to suit just have another one.

As promised, the name on my griddle plate is 'Casty' and just had a quick buzz through their website but, as I bought mine at the VW BusFest about 10yrs ago, sadly they no longer appear to do a Cast Iron FLAT griddle! (my look was quick though.)

This is a pity because I have another, slightly smaller, that not only goes on top of the stove but also under the grill.
Just one word of warning, invest in a good pair of oven gloves with fingers, cast iron can get bl**dy hot!

I NEVER wash it up, when its cooled slightly after eating, with my flat metal spatula, (wallpaper scrapper :giggle:) I just push the few remaining bacon and bread bit left on the griddle, over to the side, collect and wipe it with Kitchen roll and again before cooking.
(never had any stomach problems (except it's getting too big), in case your wondering :giggle:)

Try putting Cast Iron FLAT Griddle in your search engine and I'm sure you will find something, Good Luck! 🤞

PS. Just seen the above post and I have never had problems with storage as, when it's cooled, I wrap it in a teacloth and store it under the grill instead of the grill pan.

Why not put the bread on top of the nearly cooked bacon? It will allow the bacon to keep warm and the bread to toast??

This has been going on for about 2 months now ever since the last windows update!

If on hookup we use the tapanyaki grill, which will do 4 slices.

In the van I heat our heavy flat pan - it's like this one but ours was a Lidl special a while back

Amazon product ASIN B0000CF66W
No fat but when it's nice and hot the bread goes in and it toasts lovely. You do need to use tongs to turn the bread over. Great when you are not on EHU or the EHU has restricted amps.

It's also great to do bacon / sausage etc and then put the bread in afterwards.

Much prefer the flat ones, trying to get the fried egg out of those ribs...........and it only toasts where it touches? :giggle:

We use one 9f the Swiss toasters from the camping shop ,it's small and square and fits nicely in the cupboard, can,t fit big slices though. We got one of those grate things that fit over the gas ring but after a couple of goes with it and good laugh it went in the bin

So we have 3 ways to make toast in the moho, grill, a 240v “normal” wattage one and a 240v low wattage which we use on inverter and solar/battery power,

No doubt whatsoever we both think the low wattage one makes the best toast 👍
