Prostate cancer. A useful resource.

Six weeks since my op so I’m hoping that life can return to normal 🤞. I walked a mile on Day 6, whilst I still had my catheter in: the family descended en masse and gave me both barrels ☹️.

But today I went down the garden and brought up a barrow load of wood, without feeling any problems. AND at 3pm we had the first power cut of the season, on the coldest day so far. So I’m sitting here with candles and a roaring fire but I don’t think I should have a glass of whisky just yet 😉

Hi All ,I havent had a chance to read all the posts to find out if theres an answer to my question
I,ve been booked in for a Flexible cystoscopy and typically its 6 days after we were ment to be getting the Tunnel for france for the month. I have looked on the internet as to what it is ,but looking for actually life experience of how uncomfortable it is after .
with in mind of driviving down to spain, It mentions posible infection after and discomfort.
planning i know is difficult but dont know wether to rebook or what.
to say i first made doctors aware of symptons in may took till november to get a consultants appointment which lasted 5 minutes .I had PSA test which showed 2.7 which is normal.

PeterCarole29 only speaking personally I would delay the procedure, not had the same as you but I wouldn’t have gone just after my biopsy which quoted very similar short term risks

Get your holiday in, try to enjoy that presuming you not already in discomfort, if you are i would cancel my holiday

Good luck , it’s a difficult choice but only you will suffer if you call it wrong 🙏

After having a very bad bleed from my bladder a few years ago I was very quickly sent for a cycstoscopy, I too was given all the usual warnings about infections etc, something they seem to do as a matter of course these days.

I can honestly say that it was not in the least troublesome, in fact I would say that the camera tube is smaller than the average catheter. I drove myself to the hospital and back home without feeling any ill effects at all.
All in all not an unpleasant experience.

Personally I would say don't worry too much about it. Good luck with the findings! mine was just a small blood vessel that had ruptured, apparently not an uncommon thing when you have had a Radical Prostatectomy and also Radiation treatment to boot, you make lots of new little blood vessels in the bladder according to what the consultant told me when he was doing the cystoscopy.

Good luck and enjoy your holiday afterwards.

Thanks for your reply
I made a decision a little while ago when the hospital rang back
It was the right decision at that moment but I think I may be in trouble when I get home

I am sure that all on here hope that the procedure goes off trouble free and that you enjoy your delayed holiday when it does happen.

Yesterday was my 3 month meeting with the consultant: he said that he was pleased with his handiwork and was sure that my incontinence would disappear. My PSA result was zero so no cancer.
However, during the post op biopsy they discovered Grade 4 cells whereas the initial biopsy showed only Grade 2. Both he and I were glad that I went against the advice of Active Surveillance and opted for surgery 👍

One of the guys in my local support group had a prostatectomy but still has cancer 5 years later. I’ve got my fingers crossed 🤞

All of that sounds very familiar. I had my last of 20 RT sessions on the 14th August but in my case my final hormone injection was 23rd October. Right from the start of my treatment the consultant stated that my HT would only last for six months from the end of the RT sessions.
I've put on about half a stone during hormone therapy and reduced more things than I care to mention but with the HT coming to an end hopefully by Spring 2025 things will be slowly returning to nearer normal.

I know what you mean ,I was told I would be on hormones for 2 yrs

After 2 years of HT I hoped that my weight gain might disappear but unfortunately not.
That is a big concern That I have I'm 1 year into 2 years of ht and still gaining bulk my next one is in feb before I see the consultant at which point I will try to negotiate no more ht

I'm off HT after mid January, last implant was mid October.

Maybe with a bit more exercise I can shed a few pounds in the next six months although I have only put on half a stone during the HT.
