Ok folks this is a project Camper don't know how it's going to turn out
Could be a desater lurking under there
Certainly going to be interesting
The roof lining is certainly past it's best most off the wood is not in prim condition
The insulation is soking wet
Every seem strip and joint is needing re done
From what I can see structurally it is holding together mechanically there is a few small siues
The lay out I like
But it's not for me to like but one of my off spring.
it's not going to be a one day job doing this anyway.
There's a lot of work her but not beond repare.
If it was a deler doing this it would be beond economial repar probably a scraper.
I have all the time in the world there will be a few man hrs going in to this one

Looking forward to your journey with this one. I was amazed how you swopped an engine over on a car park, not even like for like.
So I'm sure this will be a walk in the park for you.
Keep the photos coming
Mech stuff OK never ever been good at wood work
Bill

There's a lot of joins in that roof Bill  you going to drop the ceiling to check the frame?

In our tours in dubious Aires around France we have seen numerous old vans that have a sort of rubberised roof felt stuck all over the roof , seems to work(y)

Blimey, that is a project Bill.
I`m sure you`ll have it ship shape in time though.

that looks far worse than it is. with basic skills and following detailed but easy instructions that roof can be repaired in a couple of days

if you need it explaining Bill just ask, but I am confident you know how. can make the roof better than factory if done right

Yep that will keep you busy for the winter. Will be good to see photos of before and after sections as you go along.
Hope it all works out. It would have been someone's pride and joy at one point, hopefully it will be for your son one day.

I know price has got a lot to do with it, but this forum shows up what a hugely diverse lot motorhomers are , on the one hand we have folks like @Wildbill willing to have a go at anything even a compleat project like this one then on the other side we have people complaining about a drop of water or even a creaking bed, and every stage in between.
And yet we are all after the same outcome, just somewhere to lay your head for a night.(n)(y):)

my answer is we are all just the same, no matter what we paid for our motorhomes. we all crap i a plastic box in a room the size of a wardrobe then carry it away to empty it. much like slopping out in a victorian prison

Well sum of the motorhomes I have met with my mildud moss covered van that know who that are dropped there had at tibshelf services when I was coming back up trying to make them self's invisible not the first time I have experiacd that with badge displaying so called funsterse.

Don't worry about the title Bill. :)
Is there wood in the structure you need to replace? Ash is the traditional one used in vehicles, Morgan still use it, but I guess any softwood from a timber merchant will work just as well - and was probably what was used originally.

Looking forward to watching this thread @Wildbill :)

Might be worth building a new interior from scratch?

As others have already said - here to help :)

Ok just Ben out to the van with damp meter readings coming down on the wood
The wood around the sky light is rotten all the damp in that area is confind to a one meter radius from canter of sky light
Replacement wood that for sure
Trip to the timber yard to get right size
Bill

Whichever lining you use, a good high temp contact adhesive is a must. Way easier to apply making up a T-bar to hold the middle up and a print roller to stick it up.

Apologies if you already knew this :)
