Hi Bill & Helen

Chris from Bonnyrigg

Really enjoyed following your travels through Germany. We head over next Friday 5th July from Newcastle to Amsterdam

Good to see some of the towns we are heading to and some of our favorites we have been to in the past. Also our favourite German food:giggle:

Route
Jachthaven Niuewboer
Giethhoorn
Bad Bentheim
Nordkirchen
Edersee
Alsfeld
Remagen

and back up towards the Netherlands for a couple of days and to see a local Vet.

I might to a similar travel log If I have enough energy

Been really interested to follow this thread, as we are thinking of doing something similar in September. It appears that using Stellplatz is the most common place to stop for a night or two, but some of the pictures here look like they really cram all the vans in. Are they mostly like that or were you travelling at a particularly busy time? We might be a bit put off being in such close proximity all the time.

Itā€™s a real mix! Some, especially smaller ones in towns, are part of normal car parks and have spaces marked out for campers but with provision of electric. In others, the Moselle or Bad Durkheim as examples, have almost pitches market out, reasonable space, room to sit out etc. They are not campsites though, no external barbecue, no fenced in screening for dogs etc. However we are always amazed at the consideration shown between campers for privacy, the lack of noise in the evening etc and we always felt safe, though by habit we use our alarm. Remember in September itā€™s wine festival time, so tends to be v busy. Itā€™s partly a state of mind change, being in walking distance of wonderful towns makes up for lack of facilities. Indelicately, you do need to use ā€œallā€ your facilities, thank goodness for Happy Bowl liners!!!šŸ˜€šŸ˜€

We've just come over Austria into Germany and currently on a quiet Stellplplatz at Penzberg, after catching up with this thread I think after popping into Munich tomorrow we'll be heading up to Maincamp, WĆ¼rzburg, and Speyer Technology Museums before heading towards Wiesbaden for our next music gig šŸ‘

Munich is cancelled, there's bloody football on there!
Augsberg instead, and just found out there is a Mazda (?) and a MAN trucks museums there!
The MAN museum assembled U boat engines there

If you are in Wurtzburg, do not go near MainCamp!
Which is about 5 miles south, at Frickenhausen.

It's a large Camping warehouse, every possible item you could ever need for camping and motorhoming.
We made the mistake of just dropping in, on bikes, a couple of years ago.
We bought so much stuff that we had to drive back to pick it all up.
That said, every item has been used, and I'd love to 'just drop in for 5 minutes' again and reserve the afternoon.

They also have their own Stellplatz.
We've just been to Maincamp, and found it rather disappointing, was expecting something like obelink, but was tiny in comparison, now at WĆ¼rzburg stellplatz, and as expected on a sunny Saturday afternoon, very busy
