Portugal closed borders with Spain tonight

Zepp There are many abiding by the rules, but you will always get those that don't, they seem to move them in Javea, quite right because we had to go to Camping Javea to check a friends static and the sites only a quarter full, I believe the other site has less on it, and the rules are to travel to your destination and stay there. 🙂

On our cycle ride yesterday we saw loads in the beach parking at Denia, including a RV with slides out, sat outside camping no masks, the police probably can't wait for the borders to close then send them all home like last time, I'm sure they have enough to do without chasing motorhomes around. 🤔

It's going the same as Portugal, it will be only campsites then motorhomes will be history and you are better off having a caravan. 🙂 Bob.

That’s bad we always try to follow the rules I’m guessing because we are not moving about we are not seeing it ... we would obey any rules even if they tell us even go back to U.K.

Revelling, not at all, highlighting not preaching. Don't wish any bad fortunes on anyone, but cannot understand why run the gauntlet, just because of the desire of a wintersun holiday....is it asking too much to just miss a year or two if need be...
Tourism will return, different maybe, but lives do not...they are lost forever..
Well you are highlighting incorrectly. Non residents in Portugal are not stuck here.

Totally different situation now...
The state of alarm is in the highest level....in the summer it was relaxed.....giving freedom to travel....which we did....if we had been in an area that was going into higher lockdown we would have received notice via the media....we have every week updates on Spanish TV and internet...we have a responsible interest to check this....an opportunity to leave would be encouraged, as I wrote earlier I visited the Guardia Civil to check current situations...if Spain had increased it lockdown level we would have returned home.....
Any motorhomes passing by us have crossed Municipalities as we live on the junction of 4....currently border crossing is forbidden....anyone in situ on Aires or Camperstops should have used the rule of Transit which I have previously mentioned...
And people myself included traveled then when you did and have stayed put in Portugal and only recently Portugal has been in trouble and you were going off on one saying look what happens you'll all be stuck in Portugal now, you never should have travelled. Double standards.

So I suppose this effects the " Must have my wintersun holiday 2021 clan". I'm sure this will be extended beyond the 14 days...perhaps it may prove to be difficult to return to the UK by 31st March....will this make them...not you, an overstayer.....who can say....
Why put yourselves, your family, your loved ones in this situation in the first instance...
Just to remind of the comment i take issue with nothing to do with motorhomes breaking the rules local to you in Spain. Just a dig at anyone who wished to stay abroad this winter whether following the rules or not. I seem to remember that the reason you chose to travel this summer was to avoid the heat in your region so almost exactly the same reason that some have travelled just opposite seasons.

Disagree...we travelled during a period of relaxation....this was encouraged by the Spanish government, we went only to safe areas....and throughout our time away we monitored the situation, confirmed with Guardia....if at any time the situation looked unstable we intended returning home which actually happened in September...
The situation now is totally different...the highest level of Covid spread is with us and during this time travel is both non essential and somewhat selfish.....
My points about being stuck or overstaying in Schengen is there to bring it to the attention of what could happen and at no time intended to be told you so....not enough thought is being applied by some travellers, a fairly carefree attitude by some here in Spain...

We travelled...Low risk period, travel allowed.

Currently. High Risk...non essential travel banned. Here in Spain, cross border movement banned....

And loads here travelled when safe. Portugal has only just got bad and was one of the last places to do so. Don't you think people know about overstaying it's hardly news to anyone. Please just admit you're cheesed off and are commenting on every possible thread that you can saying 'look look what happens' it's nothing to do with helping or informing it's preaching pure and simple. All the information is already there for people to read themselves. There was nothing wrong with the initial post about Portugal borders. Stop watching u tube videos about van lifers breaking rules it's obviously causing you to view travelers in an overly unpleasant light and can't be good for the stress levels. They are a tiny minority. As others have said most people i come across are sticking to the rules and being safer than they could be back in freezing cold, crowded uk if you live in a van.

You gotta enjoy the popcorn while you can🤣

The situation in Portugal is thus, effective yesterday. ( in summary, the decrees are a lot of words, some of them are long🤪)

Borders ( land, air, sea, rail) are closed except for goods and people returning to their country of residence, in both directions.

Citizens and residents of Portugal are prohibited from leaving the mainland of the country, with exceptions of emergency etc.

Travel restrictions in place throughout the country 24/7, essential journeys only ( there’s a list, and exceptions) no travel outside municipalities at weekends.

there is a general duty to stay at home.

.........rocket science it ain’t !

Try not to sound so gleeful about it
Their choice to go full time, living the dream, doing it on the cheap, vanlife is the only life, call it what you want....
I chose to full-time in 2013 when I retired and have enjoyed living the dream thank you. A lot of people do and there was no virus back then so why the criticism? Your comment below is just plain stupid but for the record I wasn't forced into my lifestyle due to war, terror or other non-humane acts. I did it because life is too short and because I could.
Have they been forced into that lifestyle due to war, terror, or other non humane actions? I suppose not, they have done it by choice, their chosen lifestyle, avoiding this and that, dropping out of the system, if it turns sour, then so be it, make it right, take another direction, living on the cheap, freedom to do as they please....we all have difficult times, this is why we stay at home, why burden Portugal, because they need us, sure they do, just as much as they need a broken economy and a failing health system.....having a great time until its not so much a great time.

Get off the Fence, why don't you...

Can be done ......

‘The Schengen Borders Code (SBC) provides Member States with the capability of temporarily reintroducing border control at the internal borders in the event of a serious threat to public policy or internal security.

The reintroduction of border control at the internal borders must be applied as a last resort measure, in exceptional situations, and must respect the principle of proportionality.

The duration of such a temporary reintroduction of border control at the internal borders is limited in time, depending on the legal basis invoked by the Member State introducing such border control.’

The scope and duration of reintroduced border control should be restricted to the bare minimum needed to respond to the threat in question. Reintroducing border control at the internal border should only be used as a measure of last resort.

The reintroduction of border control is a prerogative of the Member States. The Commission may issue an opinion regarding the necessity of the measure and its proportionality but cannot veto a Member State’s decision to reintroduce border control.’

The use of this rule was considered during the Brexit shenanigans as a way of being part of the EU but not part of free movement. I can't recall if it was the Brexiteers, the Remainers or the Inbetweeners who came up with this idea...
