Popit Mobile Unrestricted EU Roaming

If only I’d gone with them instead of Lyca! Having loads of trouble with them - now in France with no data on my phone! Rubbish customer service too! Hindsight is a wonderful thing! 😏
Do a search and find a 'Free' shop, mostly found in the large supermarket complexes. They do a SIM only for 19.99€ plus 10€ for the SIM gives you 320gb for one month - you then have to buy a new SIM for the next month or 320gb of data.

Is that a one off fee or monthly ?
One off payment and it gives a month of EU use. Can do it via the EE app.

If your contract is up with them, tell them you are leaving to go to 02 as they include EU, and EE will also include it. 👍🏻👍🏻

That's not what it says on their site. It's 210Gb a month, but only 25Gb outside France. Also I believe to cancel it you need to send a form from their site (in French) registered post to them. Not bad if you're only doing France though.

Unless you found a different deal in store?

Sorry it is 210gb, not sure where I got 320 from! As regards cancelling, the SIM only lasts one month and you have to then go and buy a new one, so it works out at €30 per month. I tried to top my SIM up earlier this year and was told I have to buy a new one as it's only a one month contract on that particular deal. Not sure about useage outside of France though.

Anyone using these? Never heard of them before but their website says no restriction using all your data in the EU. so may be of interest to some. 30 day contact, 30gb for £18 or 100 GB for £25. Thinking I might give them a go?
I rang the contact number but it’s the AA break down number??

I have a EE mobile broadband/data sim on 160gb per month contract for £14 a month for our van mifi. They’ve told me that I can use 50gb of my monthly allowance when in the EU. I just have to call them a couple of days before we travel to let them know.

Using a 100gb one in France and Spain in our mobile router. Works well for us. We can get iPlayer and Netflix through our Firestick on the TV and both our phones and Kindles use it to get data. Can confirm that there is no roaming restrictions in the EU.

My normal Vodafone gives me 25GB per month in Europe and roaming in 51 countries. Don’t watch TV when we are away but had the radio on most days for live sport and news. Costs £13.50 per month for 180GB uk data.
Important to note the Month starts with your billing date not the date you entered Europe. So my billing date is 16th, we crossed to France on the 1st September so had 25GB to use before the 16th, then 25GB 16 September to 16 October, then 25 GB to use from 16th October until we came back on 1st November. So effectively 75GB for the 2 months we were away.

Thanks for sharing.
Sounds like a solution!
Up till now my best solution for data was to purchase a local sim in Spain

Excuses for my ignorance in advance but, if I get one of these popit sims for EU roaming, does this mean that I won't be able to use my phone number?

I'm ok with emails etc cause you can log into your account, but my phone number is crucial for customer contact?
I too was going to suggest the twin sim card slot on your phone Paul, ie, set the No 1 sim for calls & texts, and the No2 sim for data. :)

Now then, just when I thought I had this sussed, you dropped in "apn"....thanks for the tips and original post though (y)
Here you go.

I might get one for my my MiFi, for use in Spain from January to March. (y)

Cheers,

Jock. :)

By way of an alternative - the Ultimate Oomph package from Virgin allows me a free Sim with unlimited data. And free roaming. Thanks to this forum, I bought a Firestick for £30, and used my phone to provide a hot-spot for it. Much to my surprise, as its a UK sim, allowed me to watch UK channels abroad without any VPN shenanigans. Just back from Spain, where I burnt through 100gb in three weeks at no cost. One very happy bunny...

I have used Lebara, which uses Vodafone’s network, for some time now. I have a rolling monthly contract which can be changed as and when needed, works a treat for me when we go away as more data is needed for web browsing and satnav. When we get home again I just revert to the lowest monthly plan at renewal. I have had no issues using data in France with this method. However, we don’t use data for streaming tv etc.

Thank you Jock, great help 👍 hope you're keeping well?

Yes, keeping well thanks Paul.............but not as occupied and on the road 2 x days a week, as I'd like to be. :(

Cheers,

Jock. ;)
I know what you mean. It's very quiet out there for sure. Stay safe though!

Atb, Paul

Is there any time limit for roam8ng outside the UK?

This is the attraction of this MVNO. You have up to six months continuous roaming. Their CTO further told me that they will be unlikely to hold people to this exact timeframe either. Definitely the best offer for long term EU roaming that I can find. 👍🏻

Just to clarify, are you referring to the Popit deal? Thanks.

Have Popit advised anybody of what their EU Roaming Fair Usage data allowance is?

Roaming in the EU.

From the Popit website roaming page

We do not cap the data usage. If you have 1GB,3GB,10GB,30GB or 100GB you can use all of this allowance in the EU.

My phone e is a dual sim so it's just a case of popping it in and away we go?
Also, be aware that a UK SIM needs to be activated in the UK before ou travel. Don't leave it until you get there as it won't work then.

No, when you buy the sim, at least when you use one of their machines, you get the choice of one month or recurring charge on to your credit card. If you chose recurring then you have to send a letter in French by registered post about €4.50 to cancel. There is a template letter on the web which works or use Google Translate. I have done it three times so far. So my cost for this three month stint is: €10 for the sim! 3 x €19.99 & about €4.50 for the registered letter to cancel. My router also has a phone socket so I also get a French number with unlimited calls in the EU. So about the same as poppet but much more data.

Thanks for that, didn't realise I could do that. Can you reinstate the SIM after cancelling or do you then need to buy a new one? How long does the cancellation process take, from sending the letter?

After cancelling you buy a new one next time and get a different number. They are very quick if the letter is sent to the correct address. Make sure you specify what date you want it cancelled or they will do it immediately. I usually ask them to cancel It a few days after we arrive back in the UK so I have 25 gig to use in the uk and it gives me time to reinstate the Superdrug sim when we arrive back. Last time they credited some back to my card I didn’t bother to check whether it was pro-rata or what. I do use 4G at home though and just move the router from home to MoHo ass we travel.
I carry a printer in the van and I print the letter to be posted registered letter in France I was a bit rushed last time and forgot and had to pay about £7.50 to send an international signed for letter But it still worked OK. I will look out the letter and post it on here later so you know the form of words and address.
