Popit Mobile Unrestricted EU Roaming

Roaming in the EU.

From the Popit website roaming page

We do not cap the data usage. If you have 1GB,3GB,10GB,30GB or 100GB you can use all of this allowance in the EU.

And as I have said previously, their CTO has confirmed that this is available for a six month (minimum) period, I have an email to this effect too! 👍🏻

This topic is becoming confusing on this thread. There is a discussion completely OT about Free in France happening alongside the OP topic around Popit… 🤷‍♂️🤦‍♂️

Sorry it starts as a simple reply then hijacks the thread, I have started a new thread
"Cancelling a FREE.fr monthly contract in France" So Mr B we can continue over there.

We used our firestick for Netflix, Prime, Iplayer and live football with no issues
What app were you suing for live footie? Only last time we were away I couldn't get Sky via NowTV or BT Sport to work from the firestick even with a VPN.

The only way I’ve been able to get a full sky TV service when in Europe is with a side loaded app on a 4K Firestick. It’s a little ‘hookey’ but I’m a full paying Sky subscriber so I don’t feel any guilt… 🤪

Thought it might be that. I agree if you're paying for a service then you should be able to take it with you. Apparently it's due to territorial broadcasting rights in each country.

Two of the games where Scotland games so on Premier and ALBA tv and the others where Celtic so watched through their TV channel, I have to use a VPN for the Celtic games as they only show live games outside the UK. I have Celtic TV through a friend who lives abroad, I pay for it in his name so can watch via a VPN.

Staying on topic re Popit, I've never had a monthly rolling contract, so contacted them to ask a couple of questions as I'll be using a MiFi rather than hotspotting from a phone..

Q. Can you tell me please, when does payment get taken, ie, when ordering the sim card, or when it becomes activated? I need to order the sim card 2 x weeks before I need to activate it.

A. Hi Jock, your payment will be processed when you've ordered the sim cards however, the contract will start once the sim cards are activated.

Q. Thanks, that makes sense. How do I stop the rolling contract after 3 x months usage, then reactivate it 3 x months later please?

A. Hello Jock, if you can inform us closer to the time, we can put the SIM in dormant for a small fee of 0.80 pence per month. And you are able to change this back when ever you like.

Handy if you wanted to retain that sim number for use abroad only.

Cheers,

Jock. :)

What VPN do you use on Firestick? I tried Surfshark but had no luck with that.

I was just a bit confused about whether this clause applies to only phone calls and not data. Others have confirmed that no roaming fair usage limit (y) .

My 3 sim only deal is coming to an end and they are putting the price up from £12-£19 if I don’t renew, if I renew I lose the eu free roaming.
Been looking tonight and found a company called ID mobile who are doing 250gb for £15 or unlimited for £17 with full allowance allowed in EU, they have fair usage which says you have to use it in U.K. more than eu.

Has anyone any experience of them, they use 3 network.

From what I have seen with ‘extensive’ research on the deals available for EU roaming, if you need your data allowance to be useable in the EU for extended periods (with no nasty or complicated fair usage clauses) and wish to have your mobile number (as it’s your primary mobile device), then the six months and all your data allowance being useable in EU offered by Popit, isn’t bettered in the UK market at the moment.

If you want lots of data whilst roaming, you can’t beat the Tiekom data sim deal, 300Gb for <€40 per month, useable across the EU.

I agree Popit is the best for roaming and had no issues while using it, unfortunately we still work so don’t have months in the EU. This means I currently want a cheap monthly sim that allows free EU roaming, popit are a bit expensive if not using for roaming.

Simple question please. Read the thread about the Tiekom sim and now reading this one. From what I can see Tiekom is x3 data for x3 money. Tiekom needs VPN in Eu but Popitf doesn’t. Turkey for example included in Tiekom but extra on Popitt. So have I missed anything that might influence choice. Also as far as I can see you are not charged anything for Tiekom until activate sim then first month had the postage on. What happens if you don’t activate it? Just trying to cover all bases so I can decide which is best for me. Thanks

Hello

So Tiekom SIM is a data SIM, designed specifically for use in a router for mobile data. The Popit SIM is a standard mobile service. The attraction of Popit for me was to use for four months as my phone (with some data) to use whilst away over winter without any fair usage or shaping.

I will still have the Tiekom 300G service for the heavy lifting data whilst away and it will be in the Netgear.

Yes Turkey is in the Tiekom service package.

£25 for 100Gb on Popit, €40 for 300Gb on Tiekom.

HTH’s?

Does anyone know how long the Popit can be dormant for? I'd be looking for 8 months.
Please see my post from above.

HTH,

Jock. :)

We've got a company here (Australia) which I've used for trips this year and in 2019 selling sims that work in the UK and EU A$50.40 (£28.30) for 140Gb over 28 days. Black Friday week deal.

Yes Jock that's why I asked. A lot will do it for up to 6 months, but I wondered if Popit would go longer.

Re Free.fr The way I read it is that it's 210Gb in France, but only 25Gb outside France.

Ah right. You'd need to ask them using the chat facility on their Web page. (y)

Cheers,

Jock. :)

I see they only cover EU countries, not Norway & Switzerland.
