We have a recent new rule here in France that all plastic bottle tops must be attached to the bottle and cannot be removed without cutting the securing device. I hope the rest of the world now acknowledges this earth shattering invention that will solve the world's plastic waste contamination as their milk now spills all over the table instead of landing on their cornflakes.

Scissors!
that's what I use
Beats me why they have also started to secure the plastic caps that are attached to paper (juice etc) cartons too. Paper and plastic are recycled separately where I live.
the whole lot goes in the same container here. cans, plastic bottles with lids, tetra packs with lids pringle containers all the same

Why not just ban plastic bottles? I know, we could make them from glass, have deposits on them and re-use them just by washing them. Radical or what?

Why not just ban selling bottled water at all but make in mandatory to have refilling places for people taking their own bottles.

Well there already are such places in certain locations which is handy if you happen to be near one, but totally banning bottled water sales is just a mega over reaction to a minuscule issue in the grand scheme of things surely.

First encountered these in Greece back in January. It seems they've been around quite a while. I just snap the lid off first time I open it.

Just another example of nanny state policies

They irritated me initially but I'm quite used to them now. In fact, I think I may prefer them. You can still drink out of the bottle - just need to click the cap far enough back.

I can't say in my entire life that I have ever binned a bottle without the lid on it. It seems a fairly natural instinct to put the lid back on . Usually after I've loosened it squashed the bottle then tightened the lid to keep it squashed.

Don't need a stupid bit plastic to keep the lid on .

A lot would have said that with stopping free carrier bags but it's worked you just get used to taking one with you

I wouldn't say it's worked I just see loads of people buying them , and never reusing them. Only thing that's worked is shops are now making money selling what was once free.

It hasn't cut out the waste lying about either. They should ban takeaway coffee shops next

Is that all plastic bags or just shopping bags? I now have to buy bin bags which I used to get for free, so for me my plastic bag usage is pretty much the same as it always has been.
Shopping bags. If you used your shopping bags as bin bags the amount of plastic waste you produce has probably reduced a lot as bin bags are generally a lot thinner than shopping bags. What would be better would be to encourage the use of biodegradable bags

Says who?

A statistic created to back up a pointless excercise.

I prefer to go with what I see and witness than what some statistic tells me.

Now if the shops had no bags for sale at all , then it might work.

You'd only forget them once.

When we go shopping it's unusual now to see people buying single use bags.

I see it all the time . There was a woman in asda the other day double bagging everything in those thin supposedly bags for life you can exchange if they tear , I think she tore 3 of them trying to squeeze boxes in . Corner through the bag so squeeze the bag inside another bag. Watched a guy in that b&m stores the other week too in Cornwall, he was just taking more and more bags from the next till and putting one or 2 items in each , I took great amusement when the girl on the checkout had a fit .

I've had the same reusable bags I bought in mercadona in 2019.

The amount of plastic everywhere I don't believe a word that we've reduced it.

But we ship loads to Indian and China fir them to recycle lol.
