Rally Pickering 5 night rally Thurs 25th July 2019 ( FULL)

As we fulltime we don’t have a bin at home and struggle to get rid of our rubbish at the best of times.

I think it was a good idea - just a bit overpriced, especially for someone like myself who really doesn't generate that much rubbish... I'd be surprised if I have a full black sack.
Yes I can understand that.
You can recycle bottles and cans as Debs says in town anyway , it’s not far to walk.
There are badgers and foxes so rubbish would need to be inside the van .
Both dogs hoof chews and raw hides disappeared on Friday night ?
Infact come to think of it, they’d probably have a field day in a skip, so probably a good idea we aren’t having one after all. ?

How much are they ? split 30 ways ? ?

They have a lid too.....

I’m happy to pay our share of the skip

Too late , we’re not having one now Chris. It’d need everyone to chip in for it to be cheap enough.

That’s a shame. I must say we have never paid to stay anywhere that didn’t provide basics like water, waste water and rubbish facilities. So no taps or waste water on the field, no rubbish point, no electric and no groundsheets.

I did set everything out in the original* post Paul & ask that folks read it.

EDIT: * sorry - in post #8 and on each update post.

This site has been operating as a CL for at least 30 years that I know of but he's only been doing rallies for the last 15/20 of them. The services are all based up at the house which stands above the field and it's just not practical. The location is a 2 min walk into Pickering and it's always popular. I've arranged with Colin that we will take the whole of the site over including the spare cl pitches.

Can I ask that everyone read and is happy to accept the stipulations that Colin has laid out to allow us to have this rally please so that there are no surprises when you arrive.

CazPaul not sure, Ralph-n-Bev what did he charge you - it is a C& cc by the way.

IMPORTANT INFO - PLEASE TAKE TIME TO READ

We want to be good neighbours and by attending this rally you are agreeing to the following
  • The rally starts at Noon Thurs 25th July and we need to be off site by noon Tuesday 30th July
  • As it is in a residential location there is a strict No Noise policy after 10.30 pm
  • You will have to take all rubbish home with you, once the stock of black bags runs out you'll need to provide your own. Please DO NOT dispose of rubbish in the bin at bottom of the drive. There is a bottle bank in the car park and in Lidl to make use of.
  • Dogs are welcome but must be on leads and picked up afterwards.
  • grey water to be disposed of in the hedge bottom
  • the elsan point is up by the house - lifting of the manhole cover type. The property is not on mains sewers so PLEASE DO NOT DISPOSE OF WIPES THIS WAY as it causes blockages which the owner has to pay to sort out. Please use tissue paper only (or do like our european neighbours and dispose of the tissue paper with your other rubbish instead of putting it in the cassette). The outside loo is off limits to ralliers for similar reasons.
  • There are 2 water taps up by the house - the house is raised above the camping area and its not practical to get the vans up there for water so PLEASE ARRIVE WITH FULL FRESH TANK IF POSSIBLE or be prepared to use watering cans. Use of a hose isn't really possible either due to the distance.
  • NO GROUNDSHEETS OF ANY KIND
  • no gennies to be used - battery charging for a small fee is possible
  • Last but not least in very rare circumstances the field becomes too soft to use if there has been a period of prolonged rain. A few days beforehand I will confirm with the owner that we can still go ahead. In the unlikely event of a cancellation all monies paid will be refunded.

Colin buys/sells/restores things and has lots of interesting stuff to look at and buy and will be more than happy to show small groups around.

Day visitor parking £3
Tractor aid £5

Rosemary1 unfortunately Terry has had to cancel so a place is available - can you confirm if you still want to attend and make payment asap please. (details are on the 1st post)
Cheers

It’s a great CL and yes you have to be members of the CCC.
The sort of 5 unit CL we love, nothing but water and Elsan . Perfect.
We’ve been going years and I’m sure everyone will love it.
Colin charges £8.50 usually on the CL . But he did say that Debs had asked for that bit of the field too, which is great as there will be more room for everyone if we use the rally field as well.
We have been on rallies there in the past but not for as many days as this one. It’s a very short walk into town , an ideal location for Pickering and great base to go of touring. Whitby , Gothland, Runswick Bay, Eden Camp, Scarborough, Sandsend , Helmsley etc etc Not forgetting of course , the steam train. There’s Lidl and Co-Op plus independent butchers, bakers and green grocers. Plus Costa and at least 10 pubs we know of. Then of course Indian, Italian, Chinese, Bistro . A regular antique flee market , several charity shops, plus normal shops and a couple of chemists.
If we’re on the CL we do as Trixie says , when we’ve done rallies we drive off and dump on the moors. The water not the rubbish ?

Badknee not sure this is what you meant, but grey waste can be deposited in the hedge.
Hiya Trixie what I am saying is that there is nothing in the field that we need. We have to go up the farmhouse for the fresh water. We have to go up to the farmhouse for the black waste and we have to take our rubbish home with us. What I am saying is our motorhome is our home so we have to find somewhere to get rid of our rubbish off site.

Regarding the skip idea, there is a waste recycling centre about 7 mins away at Outgang Road, Thornton le Dale. Open 8.30am to 5pm every day except Wednesday
Would anyone be able to do a run there? Perhaps a taxi?

Thanks for this info Barry - I'll see what I can find out as where I live you have to be a resident & register your car to use the facility.
Not sure how a taxi would feel about transporting rubbish:D but maybe someone will have a toad & those needing a dump could chuck in a pound or two each.

Just a note to say that, as we might now be up to Reserve No 2, we are definitely still interested, though as everyone has now paid, it might be a long shot. We're away for a couple of weeks on the canals but will try to keep track of the forum as we go.

Tony & Kirsty

I emailed the council to ask if holidaymakers were ok to use local waste facilities and have just had the following response

Good Morning,

Thank you for your enquiry.
You are able to use any of our sites if you are visiting by car.
If you have a van then you would require a HWRC Permit, to receive one of these you need to reside within North Yorkshire.
If you click on the link below it will give you all the information and an application form.

Kind regards

Rebecca

Van in this case is a commercial type vehicle - it does say that camper vans are treated as cars on the website.

That's a splendid plan Anthea, I think there's a high likelihood of me joining you:rofl:

Ditto here, apart from the odd BBQ, weather pending of course. ;)

We tie our black bag to the back of the MH, but raised off the ground, and are unlikely to fill more than 3 x small pedal bin liners, which we'll take home with us, in the black bag on the day of departure. (y) No smelly mess for us in the MH. ;)

Cheers,

Jock. :)
