Phantom or Strikeback

It reports to the app on your smartphone Martin, through two layers of security, my eyes to open the phone and a pin protected app. I like it because I can immobilise the vehicle myself so no one can start it, even if they had the ignition key. My friend had his bmw car stolen, it was tracked within 20 mins........on fire!!
So the intruder alarm side reports to the same app as the tracker/immobiliser?

If the alarm goes off, ie a door is opened, or the garage door is opened whilst the alarm is set, I DO get an alert via txt AND via the app.

Thanks for that (y) I have read the VB literature umpteen times and didn't realise that it reported alarm alerts to an app;)

The Growler/ Strike back as an alarm system stand alone does not forward an activation notification. We had the standard Growler installed and upgraded to have Metatrak immobiliser /track and forward notice installed on linked to the Growler alarm. Hope this helps confuse you more

I thought this was the case but I wasn’t sure so I kept schtum, as I have only ever had the growler combined with the meta non starter, hence always had any alerts from the alarm relayed to my phone via txt and meta app👍

We have the Strikeback and MetaTrak. They must have got really pee'd off with us during October and November as we had a mouse infestation and the alarm went off, sometimes multiple times, every night for 6 weeks. If we hadn't had this facility, we wouldn't have known we had mice and possibly wouldn't have gone to check the motorhome in that time. As it was, we were up there every day (fortunately storage is only about a mile away) and we caught 10 mice in traps. It got to the point where I dreaded waking up in the morning and looking at my phone to find yet another few alarm notifications.

There are lots of companies out there doing a similar product.... I’d research a few more rather then just two mentioned here....

to be honest I didn’t have good service from vanbits and have heard of others too but that doesn’t mean it’s not a good system...
Hi smiffy, which companies are you thinking of ?? recommendations please .

I haven’t got a van at the moment but when I do I would probably not fit a third party system as I would fit my own security...
but if I did I would get at least 3 quotes and weigh up the benefits of each ...

One reason we went for vanbitz alarm is the Dog.
yes it’s expensive. But we are confident when we go out and the dog is in the van if the alarm goes off it contacts me and I can get straight back. Better than relying on someone else who has no interest in your property calling you after a couple of hrs to say there’s a problem
I feel I would have a vested interest in sorting it out quickly and making sure the dog is ok.
When I had my last dog an alarm would have been an utter waste of money,we never locked the back door never mind the van.,BUSBY.😁

That’s interesting

Could you explain further? I suspect I remember, but clarity is important.

Vanbitz, Growler...... grrrrrrr with METATRAK, very responsive to any query👍

Exactly you’ve never been a Van Bitz customer and were rude to one of my staff

You bought a Hymer with one of our systems already fitted, for our customer. You wanted information we would not provide to protect our customer.

You made the mistake of thinking that is you got aggressive at me you’d get your own way

Our customer service is exemplary to OUR CUSTOMERS

I payed you money to have the system transferred into my name.... does that not make me a customer..? I had one of your systems... does that not make me a customer or potential customer...? Or are you saying that if someone sells one of your products and the new owner has a problem with it ..”tough” because they never bought it from you..? I was never rude to anyone at your company but I was expecting this sort of reply, capital letters means shouting and that’s aggressive...

Shout all you like Eddie and turn this thread into an argument and it will disappear like all the other threads that you don’t like...🤷🏼

there are people out there that won’t always agree with you, get over it ... I have...😁

Can you explain that remark please. Because only I can make threads disappear.
It will turn into a heated argument, personal comments will be made and you (Jim) will have to remove the thread...

what did you think I meant ...?

I think that the response and reviews from people who have paid their money to have our systems, says all that needs to be said about Van Bitz

When people pay good money to have our security system installed, they expect us to protect the integrity of the system and protect their information.

Having specialised with motorhome security, (the only people in the Country that do specialise) since 1990 there are thousands and thousands of motorhomes out in the real world still working fine, being supported by Van Bitz for people who are the 3rd 4th 5th and so on owners.

When someone buys a van with a Van Bitz system already fitted, we have a procedure to allow us to transfer "ownership" of the system to the "new" owner. The process is clear and transparent and 99% of people "get it" and understand why. The 1% scream and shout and try and intimidate our staff. This PDF explains everything

We refer people to that as we get transfer enquiries daily due to the number of systems we install.

We find that sticking to our guns, protecting our customers interests, results in most people providing the ownership proof that we require and paying the transfer fee so we can help them in the future, knowing that we are not compromising our customer.

I payed my transfer fee Eddie and the complaint was caused after that transaction by an unhelpful employee of your company, you yourself came on the phone and rightly defended your employee, but I may add that you did so without the facts and got aggressive

I have not at any time said that your product is useless, my complaint is with your customer service and your responses on this thread only adds to my complaint...

I no longer have any of your products and that was the end of it for me.... but if someone asks me for an opinion I’m entitled to give it.

im not going to argue any more on it as I suspect that’s what you want.

This thread and many others alike on this forum are completely saturated with first-class endorsements for Vanbitz products together with their efficiency and their excellent standards of customer service. The answer to the OP’s original question, therefore, is contained herein and is conclusive beyond any reasonable doubt.

Looking at the spec for the growler etc. They look excellent. However for me an alarm only has to achieve 3 things at the moment.

1. Be a deterrent against casual and opportunist crime.
2. Satisfy my insurance company
3. Be as cheap as possible to achieve 1 and 2

If someone wants my van so bad that they will strip down the dashboard then get on with it.

We don't often leave the van in dodgy places but if I did I would go for the growler.

As your van would cost the wrong side of £50k to replace new, I'd suggest a grand or two spent on some serious security would be money well spent.

More to the point, if vehicle thieves learn that motorhomes in general are difficult to steal, then it helps all of us.

(Ten year old T4 VW stolen in the early 1990's probably for spares, never recovered.
Means I have no problem with installing a Growler, a immobiliser and two trackers)

Yeah but we live on the Isle of Man. Not likely to get nicked here. When we travel (if I can remember that far back) we normally stay on sites and don't leave the van in remote spots.

If we moved back to the UK and it was parked on the drive I would get one fitted so I agree with you.

All about risk at the end of the day.
