Peniscola any good?

Cycled on the old train line from Benicassim to Oropresa and back, a lovely area.

There is a gate to the rear of Bonterra Park which has access direct to the cycle path, which goes for miles in both directions.

Knew you would like it! I have v.fond memories of running it - a visual treat and several small coves to stop at for a dip... maybe not right now!

Was in Peniscola a few weeks ago. Nice place, quite built up and busy. Interesting Castle and Old Town. We followed the coast road a couple of miles south which eventually is a dead end but found a lovely bay where we parked up and spent the day on a small beach swimming in the sea. From there we had great views looking back at the town and castle.

We stopped over for a day and a night in Peniscola last month. There is a new private aire about 10 minutes walk to the beach, and then about another 5 minutes to the old town. Functional rather than great.

Old town interesting. Used as a set for loads of films and TV series, and has a walking trail with information signs. It was very quiet though. Not many bars or restaurants open in winter. Very different from Benidorm or even Moraira or Javea which have a winter tourist season. Peniscola pretty much shuts up shop.

Even in the summer I'd struggle to spend more than a few days in the town.

Just south of Peniscola. You can see the castle in the distance. Couldn’t tell you the name of the place.
