Passenger Airbag Fault

Thought the code BO100-49 meant internal failure of the module due to low voltage or a spike.

Presumably a spike. Errors 1 - 7 were at same operating time as the test, this error one obviously earlier in tIme as I first had the fault come up 30 March . The van was on EHU until we disconnected that day to take it on a run. I dont think the error came up as I started it, it was on the way back after stopping for fuel.

it "MIGHT" be a failing voltage regulator on the alternator. I know of several failing on motorhomes, sometimes with odd affects on the van's electrical system

Surely 14.6 is NOT a high voltage?. I regularly "see" in excess of 14.0 to 14.5. when running? It IMV all systems should be able to tolerate that sort of range?. Some Batteries NEED that sort of voltage to charge properly. SLA for instance needs 14.3 to 14.4. in order to Properly clear the plates of sulphonation. 14.4 to 14.8 for a Gel Battery.

We agree but wouldn’t expect to see that voltage supplied to the electronics, hubby thinking that there should be a voltage stabiliser somewhere. By googling, we see that the Ducato does have a stabiliser so now don’t know if there is a fault with that. All we can do is replace the airbag ECU and see if happens again.

Modern Voltage stabilisers are pretty "Bomb Proof". Older Alternators though where prone to go bandit occasionally. But then that would likely have shown a much larger voltage spike?

I've arrived at northern commercial in brighouse. Waiting for them to look it my airbag issue. Sat here like an expectant parent!

They have confirmed it's the unit, now need to wait for fiat uk to open at 9.00

So, back home. New airbag unit fitted plus they did the outstanding ECU updates. I paid £162. Fiat are paying for the parts. Cant praise Northern Commercials and Fiat enough.
Is your van still under warranty?

No 4 years old but full fiat service history. So I gave them a call and they agreed to pay for the part.
That was good. Our can was sourced from Northern Commercials by IH but a bit too far for us ! I have full Fiat service history but van is a year older and my fault code was able to be cleared/reset.
We have turned ignition on and checked light out after refitting. Not yet run engine, that should come later today if our car is fixed, went in Friday and they rang to say couldn’t find the fault but something to do with a rear brake sensor. Car 4 years old with full Lexus service history - I wonder if they will pay parts:whistle2:

Always worth a phone call.

My van is sitting out there on solar & the cab battery displays in the dash & plug in on the various 12v sockets are all usually showing 14,4. When driving I am sure it shows the same?
