Overcab Window Crack

Caravan owner moved on to Motorhome
The overcab 'sunroof' has developed a crack near the hinge. It's a 2017 Autograph II. Been trying to find one on the internerd with no luck. Prima seems to come up blank (but I never can find anything on that god awful site). Anyone got any suggestions for sourcing one?

No sugestion on purchase as I would imagine quite exspensive££££, with it being on the edge could you get it repaired?
 
That looks if it’s in the outer lip only , if so drill a small hole at the top of the crack to stop it getting worse.

Then you can look at a repair.

I would be avoiding a £2k bill 😳
 
You should be able to claim on your insurance if you have glass cover.

As above, drill a 2 or 3mm hole into the very end of the crack. This will prevent the crack from spreading. Use a Stanley knife down the crack a couple of times to create a slightly larger surface area for the glue to grip on to. Get a pot of pvc pipe weld or pipe cement from Screwfix (catalogue number 14295) and dab in neatly over the crack. Leave it to dry for several hours. Then using a piece of sandpaper or similar you can remove any excess glue.
Now you need to tackle the problem of why it cracked in the first place. It looks like there is a hinge at the leading edge of the panel, it’s very likely to have seized through lack of use and moisture ingress. Open the hatch as far as it will go, then from the INSIDE of the van spray the hinge with silicone spray (Screwfix catalogue number 436FE), leave for 10 minutes then work the window up and down a few times. Just had another look at the hinge, silicone spray from outside too, BUT DONT GET BIT ON THE BODYWORK/PLASIC PANELS as it will make cleaning it and treating with wax etc in the future turn into a real pain! Job jobbed!

The whole thing is a bit of a design bodge from the start. Its well shonky.
I'm touring at the moment, will get a good look at it after next week when I get back to the UK.

It would be good to get that crack stopped Asap with a small drill.
I would try and persuade someone to help do that before the crack crosses into the double glaze section, then you are really screwed.

Do you know the German for 'Can you drill my sunroof at the end of the crack'? [Kannst du mein Schiebedach am Ende des Risses bohren?] and where to present ones self for such a request? It just isn't practical.

I've got the roof tied down so it wont move. It will just have to do.

It’s not being tied down, it’s the wind under the leading edge could increase the crack.

I lived in Germany for a while and you will get help if you ask.
But many, many Germans speak enough English to help you.
I would find a small garage or diy place and see how inventive you can be.
It’s reparable at the moment.
But, at the end of the day it was only a suggestion, you may get home and it won’t be any worse, that’s the risk.
 
There’s a company near me called EECO in Elland, Halifax who specialise in repairing and selling replacement windows for caravans and Motorhomes.
I’d try them first before drilling your current window.
I’m sure if you can take some close up photos and explain the issue to them, they will advise you whether they can repair it and what they need? Ie, window taking off and sending or you driving to them etc.

May have moved to Shelf in Halifax if you google them

Hi Paul, For such jobs I have used Bondic with excellent results. Even if you only use it until you find a new sunroof. I can recommend it for many other uses in the home or Motorhome.

I see the Northerners on tour have just done their last video replacing that window for the same reason.
Part was £800 I think but the place that fitted it might be helpful to call if you’re struggling to find one

I tried them, unfortunately they don’t manufacture the curved overcab windows. I’m going to try SFM a try later.

That's a shame.
I think that SFM are a second hand caravan dealer, but they may know of someone to help.

Ok.. now back in the UK.
I contacted SFM Caravans and they have so far been very helpful in trying to source a replacement from PolyPlastic in Holland.
The actual part number is... 08.39.909.00.00.06.100 PK603185 16402 (for future reference)

The Prima website is as useful as a chocolate fire guard, the link posted by rb62 shows the window, but it's listed as unavailable and at that price I wouldn't be buying it anyway.

The crack hasn't got any worse so no dramas.

I'll keep ya'll posted.
 
For those interested.. SFM Caravans have just got back to me. New part from PolyPlastic £850. Ouch, but no where near as expensive as Prima Leisure.
