My father in law has been forced to upgrade his email client to Outlook on Windows. He’s been ignoring the prompt to upgrade to Outlook for a long time, but finally Microsoft forced him in to it.

He’s opened Outlook and now can’t open his email - he gets access denied.

Has anyone else come across this?

I’m an Apple person so I’m not familiar with Outlook on Windows.

If you have a free @virgin.net account, have you had the email telling you that they are closing your account?

I have used Hotmail for years but for the last twelve months it has been a right heap of doggy doo with repeated failures to allow my email client to connect. I have migrated to Yahoo which has been perfect for me.

I have a couple of Hotmail accounts both working well, Mrs odd's Hotmail is good but the outlook app on her phone doesn't work well, she uses Gmail to access the Hotmail account

Some systems like Gmail will need specific approval from within the Gmail system to allow third party windows apps like Outlook to connect. You'd need to log in directly in a browser to enable thus.

But I refuse to use the cut down outlook thingy. Unless you want to subscribe micro$oft want to monetise it and will spam you with adverts looking suspiciously like emails.

I now simply use Gmail in the Chrome browser. Alternatively use a third party email client like thunderbird but you'd then need to do the authentication thing.

Are you trying to access via app or have you tried accessing via a webpage instead?

Some....good & bad!
I have used Thunderbird email client on my Windows PC for as long as I can remember.
Works perfectly.
