Oops, damaged while parked 😳🙁

Different all together when I took it for the second service to Stark in Bamberg, Motorhomes parked together and other vehicles in another spot. When you see a chap come up with a trolley full of paper and covers then start covering all the floors including steps you feel a bit more relaxed😁
Yes took it to an independant for the alternator and he was good as gold, boots off when he came in and covered everything over, parked in the shed at night as you can't be too careful around Middlesbrough ;)

Oh I don’t know 🤔

Will see what we see tomorrow, if side or roof is bent / creased I suspect write off will be only option , it will all depend on whether the awning fixings gave way or held I reckon
My money would be on it being straight, the roof corner/edge will be pretty strong.

Bugger

I think Stretto Boy had his van repaired at DMR…

Yes I did.

Their workmanship is of the highest standard. I was very impressed with them.

They are quite expensive - I guess you get what you pay for - but thankfully that should not be your concern.

Place to go then on this occasion👍

Isn’t there a clause in some insurance that it’s not insured if it’s not in your care after 48hrs or something like that, seem to recall a tread about it if it’s parked elsewhere other then your designated parking place ie: storage or your drive, so in affect as gus-lopez said it’s nothing to do with your insurance and falls on the garages insurance and the person who hit insurance…🤔

I may be totally wrong.. 🤷🏼‍♂️ but I’d have a good think about it before moving it off the garage’s forecourt…🤔

You’re not having much luck just now, hopefully all goes smoothly and gets sorted for you.

You could say the bask has damaged you exhaust 😂😂

Adams Morley paid for the repairs just lucky it was only bodywork and nothing structural!!

My last words last year to the chap at Iveco Southampton was “do not park my van with the lorries” it’s ok he said it will be in the shed, yep came to collect and it was in the yard amongst the tippers and artic units🤬🤬 first and last time I let them have it!!
I had the same concerns at mercedes dealer in Sheffield, chocks block with truck and utility vans. I parked as far as possible, and stated to the receptionist that motorhomes are a lot of money and will it be safe etc. I took numerous pictures. Fortunately everything was OK, but I wasn't comfortable leaving it.

I had a call from Aviva my insurer to say they have been informed of the accident by the haulage company insurers

Totally unsolicited by me, to confirm they accept liability and get on with repairs

I explained the secondary issue that my MH currently has no MOT as that is why it’s there and a repair is needed

I also specifically asked whether Mertrux were liable in any way and their answer was no, I will be looking out for liability notices when there tomorrow 🤔

I don’t really care who pays, as long as it’s not me

That's not good. I would suggest you get there and take pictures of the damage too.

Anthony
That’s what I was about to say. I’d be down there straightaway with camera, tape measure and note book.

Did say earlier it was going dark and raining by the time I could sort a lift (Bev is with her Mum we only have one car) going down in morning

Armed with camera note pad and questions 👍

Good luck Daivd I hope it's repairable looks like it is. I know dispite all the problems you have had with that van you really like it.

It’s a bit like I think of myself , still fairly good looking, :whistle2: but a bit scuffed on the edges , quite a few bits no longer performing as well as they did when new, but loved for what I am 😁👍

David
I love your positivity with everything thats going on right now.... Find a dark room, lock yourself in it, wait for this series of bad luck to pass!!!.

My experience of insurance in instances like this is simple. They will say, as seems already said. Great we admit liability, off you trot and get it fixed. Mainly because they don't have a dealer network of repairers. They may try and leave you responsible for getting quotes etc. I am not sure if this would effect the MOT as it's cosmetic and will probably fall out of the MOT guidance but others would know better.
My advice would be choose a repairer, get them to travel and quote it (if you can they are always reluctant) and after the mechanical work is done, get it moved to the repairer. In all fairness and giving some good karma, it doesn't look to bad tbh, should have seen mine after the fire :LOL:

What a bummer David but on a positive note it would be a lot worse if the awning hadn't been there to take some of the damage as it could have wiped the side out.

Just to add that Cannock resprays have a good reputation I believe and used by a lot of the dealers.

Sorry to hear of yet another painful episode DavidG58

Cannock Resprays do have a good reputation but accordingly a very long waiting list. Somebody we know waited for 3 months for them to do a fairly simple job and are currently "waiting for spares" from Hymer for another minor job to be done by another bodyshop I think theyve just gone over 3 months again. Particularly annoying when its not your fault.

I am hoping that when I look today it will confirm mostly cosmetic damage

A new awning will hopefully go straight on and make a big difference

Hoping the rear light is still available then the rest looks to be cosmetic , the lower ‘skirt’ is below floor level so not critical and I hope once awnibg removed and light swapped / taped up we can still use it 👍

But if not I guess like having a car damaged we could claim to hire one, we always go away in February, it’s our anniversary , we shouldn’t not be able to , right now we need some time away 🤔👍

I questioned this with my insurer(comfort) when my van was in for warranty work.
They said the clause didnt apply if in for work at a garage/ dealers.

I think gus-lopez is prety much on the money David. The claim is between Mertrux and the drivers company. I would get admission of liability, in writing, before removing it from their premisses.
I hope you get it sorted to your's and Bev's satisfaction.

My luck might just be changing 🤔👍

Half that price in Germany and dealers keep them in stock, only posted because of the way us Brits get ripped off. For my van I bought a rear light in Germany £120, another Funster bought the same one in the UK £276.

I was just pleased to see I can still get one given my luck with Hymer spares and Hymer a truly appalling customer support for older motorhomes 🤬

And I am not paying 🤔👍

I will be polite .
They are either stupid or do not know the law.
the danage is nothing to do with you .
You have not made a claim.
The vehicle when in there possession is totally there responsibility, otherwise they would have no need for insurance apart from buildings & contents.
Also what if it was there being worked on uninsured? & yes many years ago I had an XJs being worked on in a garage that was uninsured & damaged by a customer. All between the garage & the person who hit it.
A garage has a legal duty to take care of your car while it is in their possession. If the car is damaged due to staff negligence, the garage will be responsible for carrying out the repairs at no cost to yourself or compensating you for having the repairs done elsewhere.

also now you know that your insurance company have been notified you need to ask them,& get the answer in writing,by how much they will increase the MH premium & for how many years they will load it.
The same with your car insurance. Then add all to the claim .

gus-lopez

I have been back in touch with Aviva before going down today , they have confirmed they are going ahead claiming against the haulage company insurance who have fully admitted liability

They did say that if that claim had any problem they may then go to the dealership

You are almost certainly correct in your comment , but how would anybody prove negligence by Mertrux, they weren’t driving or moving either vehicle , not even supervising the parking . Given the acceptance of blame by the other party why make things complicated

If my insurers are happy and I am not paying, who actually pays the claim doesn’t really bother me, as long as it’s not me

I have no knowledge of the law on this matter but there has been at least one instance after the severe floods where a Jaguar/Land Rover dealer has informed customers they need to peruse claims though their own insurers. Morally didn’t seem right to me but morals don’t seem to be about much these days.

If you was going on a 3 month holiday in the motorhome next week, the 3 month wait for repair would land the insurers with a huge hire bill for an equivalent motorhome, it may even write the motorhome off..............

I think they would argue that one endlessly 😣

Good luck today DavidG58 hope you can get a satisfactory response from the garage and the van can be prepped for you to get away next month 🤞
