How do you think they get to fly? They can't flap their wings so they have to stick a rocket up their a..........'s :xsurprised:

Where's the exhaust then? Does it also have to be 'high level'?
Most do not have high level exhaust's, engine exhaust pressure being sufficient to keep water out, however Unimog's tend to be heavily modified to suit whatever task's they are generally required to do. Check out the link to see some in action.

Only the people there will know. It’s easily done as the road/track will be covered in sand and the beach is sand, so possibly not easy seen or even noticeable where one stops, and the other starts. Just the same as dune driving

The exhaust is underneath as a standard vehicle. A raised exhaust isn’t required as it’s blowing out, unlike the snorkel taking air in. Many vehicles have a raised air intake so it’s taking in cleaner air, as opposed to for water crossings.

Really! Is the air 6ft from the ground that much cleaner to warrant the extra expense on a costly vehicle???? :xrofl:

Yes. Especially in convoy or traffic, and the one on the Unimog shown has a precleaner fitted.

I just thought it was so it didn't suck water in when 'swimming'. 🐘

Yes, I too think it being called a 'snorkel' (and not an air pipe), kind of gives the game away.

In my navy days, the only time the name snorkel was used was in connection with a pipe that allowed air to be drawn in from above water?

Well we met up with the really nice couple with there van in Mercadonas car park the other day. They are both OK with no injuries other than pride, and the van is not badly damaged, a few scratches to the side where it was turned around on the beach and the tool box and air intake. They were very grateful to an English guy in a van who filled his van with thir belongings to save weight on the side. They both then had to seek a bed for a couple of nights until all was sorted. Just glad the couple were fine and help arrived for them.
