Not Happy, Autotrail Delaware 1 Year Old Failed Habitation Check - Damp

They are just stick on/peel off silicone pads. They come off dead easy ...
We used them on our Autotrail Tracker to soften the closing of the cupboard doors etc..
No problem really, but good luck with your van..
Ours had both side windows leaking but were replaced under warranty..
Mitch.
Do you happen to have a link for these as i may have another use for them, doing a search on ebay is not proving to be very successful ?

Zac, I got mine from Homebase (or similar). I think they're furniture protection pads.

WARNING ! Sorry! - off topic.

OMG that brings back some sweaty palmed memories of sitting legal exams 35 years ago! My heart rate is through the roof just at the thought

I'll see your Donaghue - and raise you a Rylands v Fletcher ..... is that natural, or wot?

So after putting the dehumidifier in the garage of the motorhome it has collected some water and a lot of ice has formed on the dehumidifier itself. i have emptied it now but is it normal for the ice to form on the metal element?

I am assuming this means water is still getting in somewhere?

I have a tubular dimplex 40w light on order so is it best to put this in there instead of the dehumidifier or as well as?

So many questions :)

That's how it collects moisture from the air, it creates a cold surface for the warm damp sir to condense which eventually ices up so then it should reverse and warm the coils for the ice to drop into the bucket as water, then the cycle starts again.

It will carry on collecting water as long as you leave it there as the water is in the atmosphere.

Do i take it out of the garage then and put the tubular 40w light in there as suggested on here previously or leave the dehumidifier in there?

I am assuming it needs something in there to get rid of the dampness!

If the garage is damp for any reason the dehumidifier will help to speed up the drying process, warming it up won't do much on its own without some ventilation to take away warm damp air.

As one funster said "For Autotrail think Watertrail" best for damp problems. Was thinking of getting one but no way now. Vote with your feet

A dehumidifier shouldn't ice up, it is faulty if it is doing that. If there is any sort of control on it, a humidistat specifically, turn it up a couple of notches.

But turn it off first and let the ice melt as it won't work if ice is blocking the airflow. It is supposed only to chill the air so the moisture condenses out. The air is then warmed again as it flows over the condenser.

Sending the dehumidifier back and i will get another one that is better and hopefully does not ice up, it didnt appear to be damp in there anymore but then if it is collecting water it must be. I have now had to put everything back in it as bike turning up this week so no room in the house garage.

Well after a year the motorhome has finally been given the all clear on its 2nd Habitation check the weekend just gone, this is very good news. The visit did bring some more issues with paint defects and awning that looks to be sagging (apparently it is the box it sits in and needs to be removed and levelled or something). That is now waiting on warranty approval from Autotrail and will be another trip up north in a few weeks.:(

A year to get the damp sorted in a new Autotrail - why did it take so long?

When i went back in March this year to get the damp checked they then found more in both garage doors so couldnt check the first lot they found till the 2nd lot was fixed. They then said leave it 4-5 months which was then very near the October habitation check so thought we would tie it all in with this as it is a 400 mile round trip for us. It is still a long time to wait to get it sorted but some of it was out of there control. They have now fitted new garage seals again on the last visit as i could still see some getting in but they have now signed it off as ok, although there were some areas at around 21% but they said this was normal. The previous readings were over 90% so a big difference.

I'm so sorry for what you have been through. Whilst I appreciate that some lucky owners have no problems with Autotrail, but sadly so many have issues
Why would any reputable dealers continue to be associated with such unreliable priducts?

We've had our Carthago for 2 years and definitely not our best van by a long way. Our most reliable was a Buccaneer way back when British manufacturers could do quality. The Carthago built quality is excellent but everything else is slowly self destructing including the warped habitation door, splitting frames, door handles breaking, waste tank handle snapped, draughts from everywhere and some electrical issues not to mention rotting aluminium frames. Dealers want blank cheque's just to look at them.
Van conversion by a one man builder next. We're fed up buying trash.

Umm that is food for thought as i have heard nothing but good things about the carthago's, i suppose there are issues with all makes but always good to hear from people that actually own them as opposed to the salesman spiel.

Autotrail are owned by the same company that makes EuraMobil, Chausson and Roller Team among others.
They are French owned and some say that was when it all started going pear shaped.

:cooler:
And TRIGANO,,,BUSBY.

We now have a rule.. Never buy a van that is less than 8 years old.. ( at the moment at least )

2007 seems to be almost a cut off year for quality builds..
And of course there is also the point that something 8 years old SHOULD have had all and any 'normal' issues sorted out

so is yours the last of the 2.8's or or the first of the 3.0's new shapes

A lady I was talking to last weekend had her wet garage floor fixed in her year old AT and when she collected they told her they wanted it back for a little more work in December, when pushed they told her most of the garage walls needed changing as damp was getting in and AT had okayed the work under warrenty.

so at what age/ shape do peole think autotrail started with thier probplems

We have an old 2006 AT, as per recent hab-check we have no damp.

mines 2005 2.8 with no proplems,

but I am thinking of getting an aprapaho as I could do with the extrea payload on the erar for bikes, so I was wondering about the age/shape for trouble piont, if its on the newer shape and if so at what age.

The MGTW on the older arapaho is IIRC 4500KG, on the new shape is 5000KG, my scout is 3850KG Im trying to find out from SVTEC what the scout can go to, but if it needs extra susspension stuff added that wieght with haveto be deducded.

I've no clue if factually accurate, but have seen claims that AT build quality reduced after Trigano took over, after which staff were more incentivised on the number of units rolling off the production line than product quality?
