North Wales Trip

Betws y Coed. Riverside Campsite is lovely, we've stayed there lots of times. A few minutes walk takes you to the town where there are endless B&Bs, hotels and pubs. Plenty to do in the area and the best fish and chips are at the top of the town by the bridge over the river.
unfortunately its now closed - i rang yesterday ! but thanks

The Cafe at the end of Great Orme charge £10 to stay in their car park overnight. Toilet open during cafe opening hours. Great sunset view. Contact them via their Facebook account.

There's a few place names that we recognise here and that we thought we'd like to visit, so these two sites are great recommendations. Thank you 😊
Book early for this one as only a few hardstandings for MHs, most of it grass for tents.

Bardsey Island is beautiful
you can get the boat over for day trips 😊
Loads of campsites on ‘Nearly Wild Camping’
Enjoy 👍😊

Morfa Nefyn is a really nice spot, it's got a fabulous beach and walk around the headland. There's a small campsite here - https://www.tyn-loncaravanandcamping.com/ - which is very small and is about a 10-15 minute walk down a quiet road to the nearest pub and path to the beach (about another 10-15 minutes). The beach itself has a pub on it which makes it a very attractive spot as a lunch stop - they do everything from snacks to full meals. Also Aberdaron on the Llyn Peninsula is a nice little spot. You can walk for miles in either direction along the beach and coastal path.

If you can get in, the sites at betwys Coed and Llanberis are great sites owned by Morris Leisure. Both have good walks and Llanberis you can walk either by train or path to the top of Snowdon from the site, also steam train. https://www.morris-leisure.co.uk/
Dolgelleau has a lovely site Tan y fron, https://tan-y-fron.co.uk/ that you can walk or cycle the Mawddach trail, https://www.sustrans.org.uk/find-a-route-on-the-national-cycle-network/mawddach-trail-dolgellau plus lovely village within walking distance

If you decide to go to Morfa, you can walk through the golf club at Porthdinllaen to the lighthouse and there are often seals around the rocks.
Then walk back along the beach to the Ty Coch pub on the beach but be aware they only accept cards, no cash. Don't ask how I know
Apparently to reduced their insurance costs substantially.
Lovely area.

Sounds idyllic Graham, thank you.

Thank you for this mjkinch, we've just booked a couple of nights at the Morris Riverside site, Betws-y-Coed, as part of our trip. Looking forward to a good walk and look around the area 👍.

I can thoroughly recommend Talymignedd Isaf campsite which is set in a valley with views of Snowden . great walks from the campsite. modern clean facilities , Friendly helpful owners.

Never found that to be my experience.
Nant Gwynant is a great campsite on the lake in Snowdonia and if you have a kayak there is easy access.
You are of course right, perhaps I was hasty in my reply.

There are always places to stay, if you are prepared to pay a high price. Nant Gwynant looks amazing, but was £47 a night.

I must be tight. :)

Wow, I think I paid about £20 per night in 2020, prime pitch fronting the lake with ehu.
It's not a pristine manicured site, in fact a bit scruffy in places. I certainly wouldn't pay £47 per night, and I would expect more for that much, even with the spectacular scenery.

I've just had a look at Nant Gwynnant's slick new website with prices to match

£12 pppn £14 and £15 for bank holidays
£5 pn for motorhome
£6 pn for ehu
£3 pn for dog
£5 pn Awning
£5 pn Gazeebo
£5 booking fee

Extra for tents, day visitors and a range of other things

I don't think I'll be rushing back anytime soon

Having visited North Wales several times, dropping off my lovely, late Mum to stay with her sister in Ruthin and then finding campsites for us to stay for a week or two, there's just one piece of advice I would give - DON'T USE SATNAV !! We followed ours up and down mountains, round hairpin bends and across bridges with weight restrictions until we finally reached the last site. Once parked up we asked the site owner for the nearest bus stop, only to be directed about 100yds from the site in the OPPOSITE direction where we found the main road from Ruthin to Llangollen (Might have been Llandudno, can't remember) and it took about 20 minutes instead of over an hour on the "scenic" and very scary SATNAV route.

Wow! It’s even more now.

We tried to book Morris Leisure in Llanberis too, would only accept a week, nothing less. Emailed a site down the road, no reply, other site in Llanberis, shut.

The remaining sites are making the most of the current trend I suspect, genuinely, I hope it lasts for them. We won’t be staying though with those daft prices.

Moel Siabod cafe lets you stay over for £5 on their car park. Well worth it.
