Non Resident UK Spanish Property Owners 90/180 Stay Extension May Come in November 2022

Anyone who cared to know what Third Country rules are would know, they have been in existence for a very long time, and on leaving the EU, the UK became a Third Country...so that's nothing to do with being wise after the event, is it Busby..?
Well it was for me I admit but I was probably away travelling in the van when all this twaddle was going on..BUSBY.

Obviously they couldn’t have gone for residentia even if they’d wanted to as they were too young to retire.
My daughter had ,and still has, resudencia at 22, 19 years ago. Lives and works in uk now but keeps it in force as it is worth it.
But I voted based on the principle of what was best for the country as a whole.
Why? The politicians certainly don't do that only having interest in what is best for them and there cronies .
"is oll ovver da newz dat youz shouldn't be goin on oliday"

WELL YOU STILL HAVE TO FILL THE FORM IN".
You have far more patience than I.

How does she manage that please? I thought you need to spend at least 183 days in Spain.

The thing is that at they had a bumper year because of the Morroco situation. We were seeing lots of motorhomes that we normally see over there. The other issue was that Spain was the only place Europeans could go for winter sun; no Thailand, no South Africa, no India etc etc, nkt even Turkey. I don't think it will be the same next year.
They why didn't Benidorm have a bumper year too, if a major factor was Morocco..
Yet another Camperstop will open in Mazarron for next winter, and the possibility of others locally....

Why? Because that is the sort of person I am. Just because others aren't doesn't mean I shouldn't.

I
Well I was interested but definitely never saw it mentioned in the press or on this Forum.Must have missed it somehow...BUSBY.
It went on for a long time , can hardly have been a surprise. I remember having seemingly endless discussions with some guy called makingtrax? And The Wino about it.

Because brits couldn't fly there so the hotels and cabins were empty.

Yes we did have a lot of chats about it maybe some found it a good cure for insomnia! It's done now so I suppose we have to get on with things until the next time!

No. Once you had residencia you could leave Spain for a maximum continuous period of 1 year 11 months 3 weeks ,6 days ,23 hours and 59 minutes without problems. As soon as you exceeded 2 years you theoretically lost it.
As long as you appear sometime the clock restarts.
Now ,under the withdrawal act(WA) it is a maximum of 5years.
Residency has nothing to do with being tax resident.

I was probably outdoors walking and cycling or away in my camper..rather that playing about on line all day.and I can assure you it was a surprise for me but doesn't really affect as two 90 days a year are sufficient.BUSBY.

Excuse my Ignorance please. What is a maximum of 5 years?

I'm not saying it won't harm them but it doesn't seem to be having any effect on the 90/180 like was predicted.
Wait and see..BUSBY.

Probably because there is very little wild/free camping around Benidorm..BUSBY.

But surely the Campsites/Camperstops were doing a good trade last year around Benidorm......is that so Busby?

Talking to the regulars whovreckoned numbers were well down, they were saying that whole hotels had stayed shut and businesses were opening and shutting depending on whether the flights from UK were allowed or not.

We're not normally in Benidorm so have no way of knowing for sure but there was definitely quite a few closed hotels and english type bars and those open seemed geared for a lot more trade. We had no trouble getting on to villasol and a lot of choice of pitches.

Just picked up on this....with the Spanish unemployment figures at the lowest since 2008 and a flourishing Tourism Sector the 90 day ruling may not be effecting here as much as some of you guys think it has...Spain on the whole appears to be riding the storm quite well..

These are the figures for our island...

Question is how does it compare to say 2019?
I cannot give them accurately, but the Dept of National Statistics is very positive, with the start of the tourist season this greatly reduces the unemployment figures...where we live it's thriving and has been since Covid restrictions were reduced...Long may it continue...

Tbc I love Spain not trying to talk it down in any way but it has a persistant unemployment problem especially among youths and is consistantly among the higher unemployment rates in Europe . Yes its currently slightly lower than 2019 but a long way from a good number.

I think perhaps people are overestimating how much of a difference motorhomers make to tourism stats.
I suspect that a lot more people fly to these places for 2 weeks than go by camper for months.

I am not say we are not a noticable chunk, but I don't think we are even a significant minority overall.

With Covid restrictions being lifted I think there will be a pent up demand for holidays and Spain is likely to benefit massively from the surge. I suspect covid has also pushed a lot of people to find jobs outside of tourims related industries, which is why Spanish unemployment figures are so good.

It's not just that. People overestimate the effect of long staying motorhome tourists from the UK. After all short stay and any EU tourists are unaffected and theres probably a really big pent up demand. Whitby this year is a lot quieter than last I'm pretty sure a lot of it is people free to go abroad again

I thought that was what I was saying?

Nearly. At the start you said motorhomers in general. I was thinking that it's not all motorhomers that are affected just the long stayers and just the Brits out of those. As you said I think on here generally we grossly overestimate the effect.

I specifically mentioned the long stayers.

Long stay Motorhomers, Property Renters and owners do make a major contribution to Spanish businesses and are welcomed by said businesses in that they are recognised as regulars and that contribution often pays the bills, the upturn of visitor numbers on 7/14 day holidays is were they make any profit.

Last year? With Covid restrictions, I don't think so.BUSBY.

I am referring to last winter period 2021/22 here in Murcia it's was rammed....Campsites doing well new Camperstop totally full and taking bookings for when they had vacant spaces....our resort doing great, new builds selling well, new commercial centre opened...the Covid winter 2020/21 not so.
In early June my wife had to go for an operation in Murcia town...we stayed on the Camperstop near IKEA....with another 60 vans...
I've just had a quick scan of yet another Camperstop in Mazarron...that's open and ready for next winter....the Northern European visitors are enjoying the Costa Calida...
