Newhaven and Dieppe ferry vet suggestions

John, we are going out via Newhaven. You can stop overnight at the port for £5. There is a carpark on the front for £10, but rumours are they are stopping that. We are going to try the park up on the front first, if not park at the port. We are going early December so will let you know if you haven't gone before us.
As for vets we used Abbeywell in fokestone, great service. We now have a spanish passport so dont have to worry about that anymore. Sam is 13.5yrs old but still going strong. We will update his rabies over there this year.
Hope you manage to get to europe this year.

Yes but much cheaper on the Dieppe run and less road miles.
We usually do the chunnel but it has priced its self out this time
Interesting
The tunnel is expensive, but how much is it to take the dog?

It added a total of £25 return to the total

I'm only 20 miles from Newhaven but I think your van is too big for my drive I can take a max of 7.8m but can take longer but you would be on a steepish slope sideways.

Very kind offer Lenny, but you are right, we are 10mtrs long..
I am sure we will find a spot to tuck our selves away in for a night, we always seem to manage .... Plenty of industrial sites around :-)

John
Are those figures for Newhaven/Dieppe/Newhaven correct? It mentions "transportation 1 - 5 days" and they're both the same dates?

I just went on the web site and did a booking. thats what I got.. When I do the booking proper I will be doing it on the blower to get the old farts discount :-)

This is about 8kms from Dieppe - small permitted parking area - useful if you arrive at Dieppe late or have an early ferry to catch from Dieppe. We've used it a couple of times

Thought I would just check my local vet for a price of an AHC.. £145 ! Greedy buggers
We swapped to them because at the time they were offering the AHC at a really decent price ( canna remember what it was... about £75 or so )
Another victim of their own success as she said she was not sure why, but they do not do them very often nowadays !!!

We prefer Newhaven Dieppe as it cuts the journey time from Calais to Rouen and we usually park in Brighton overnight, short journey to Newhaven.Madeira Drive is good for parking a longer motohome in the bus section,if you’ve got a blue badge you can park in most of the council car parks freei

Looks like that s the way to go then :) It adds an extra 60 miles to the run but that is a lot cheaper than an extra £100 to a greedy vet !!
Next question then.. any over night spots around there ?

Just checked.. To travel in Jan return in March selecting the cheapest options

Newhaven return is £206 less the OAP discount which you have to fone for

We have just returned from France. We did Abbeywell vets at Folkestone too, £99.00 first time and then £69.00 if you go again. We stayed at Black Horse Farm Club Campsite overnight. It was close to vets and the tunnel. We also used Buchy vets on our return, it was 24 euros including worm tablets for a 38kg Golden retreiver. Both were easy which I was thankful for as it was our first time!

We also use buchy on the way back. You did well it costs us nearly 40e for a 35kg lab. Great stop to get diesel on way home if needed.

Welllllllllllll..
Looks like I might have wasted every ones time
Just back from Mo's quack and it looks like we are going nowhere any time soon
We got news that, although it is not totally unexpected, was far from good
Still keeping fingers crossed but I am not hopeful

Although we don't live in Newhaven we do use the Newhaven vet, Portside. They are excellent but really are victims of their own success. We had the same vet practice in Seaford since the early 80s (independent vet) when he retired it was taken over by a large chain, so a large number of clients moved to the recently opened Newhaven vet. They are very busy so it might be difficult to get an appointment for travel. As someone stated in an earlier post, parking will be an issue for a motorhome as the vet is in a pedestrian precinct and parking for cars is multi-story, on road spaces nearby are for taxis. A possible place to park would be Denton Island, over the river, walk back over the bridge and through the town - max walking time 10 mins. I have no idea of costs. There are also vets in Peacehaven, next town west from Newhaven, they have a good reputation locally, but haven't been there myself so don't know about parking.
This is our vet too John (and who I was referring to in the earlier post) for reference with regards to pricing. Great vets but definitely the victim (exploiters) of their success when we and many others migrated from long time vets in Seaford.

There is a really good, informative and well-researched FB page about Animal Health Certificates (AHC) with a map of reasonably priced vets who know their stuff. The whole process is ridiculously bureaucratic for vets who have to fill in several pages so if they don't do them often they can make mistakes. Check it out here The nearest vets on this map are Battle, Crowborough or Havant, depending on where you're coming from. A reasonable price across all the vets tends to be about £130

Really trying to get back to Spain this winter. Woman is up for it even though to a great extent she is chair bound
To reduce driving time a little I have talked her in to the Newhaven and Dieppe route ( she HATES ferries !! )

Can anyone suggest a reasonably priced vet near Newhaven that can do the certificate of wellness to travel for Dillon ?

Hi

I live in Newhaven and I use Meridian Vets in Peacehaven just a few minutes along the coast road towards Brighton. I park my van on the main road and walk through to the Vets. I don’t know their prices for this but you’ll find them here https://meridianvets.co.uk/
in Newhaven there is the newer Portside Vets https://www.portsidevets.co.uk depending on the size of your van there is a small car park behind the town centre as well as the multi-storey that’s been mentioned else where. It’s also walkable from the Port so you could park there and walk to the vets. Happy to give you more details if you need them.

Try Seaford vets… just 3 miles from Newhaven ferry port. There’s one in Stafford road, but I’m sure there are others. Good luck
