Really trying to get back to Spain this winter. Woman is up for it even though to a great extent she is chair bound
To reduce driving time a little I have talked her in to the Newhaven and Dieppe route ( she HATES ferries !! )

Can anyone suggest a reasonably priced vet near Newhaven that can do the certificate of wellness to travel for Dillon ?

We used the Vet at Buchy (near Dieppe) in February - afternoon appointments from 2pm, paid 23€ with own tablets. Seems to be 23€ per appointment not per dog. Easy parking at the nearby supermarket & a free basic aire in the town. Easy to book via their online booking system. English spoken.

It is on the English side we need it :-)

Sorry 🤣 can recommend Buchy for your return

Ok - Abbeywell Vets at Folkestone

Have used them a couple of times - very easy & straightforward 👍 £99

John we've recently come back via P&O. They park you next to the lift if you say Maureen needs it. We used the pet lounge. We were parked right next to the pet lounges own dedicated lift. It takes you straight to the pet lounge. It has its own disabled toilet and free teas, coffee and dog biscuits. Your own steward as well. It was also completely empty except us. Might be more comfortable for Maureen.

Have you checked what you local vet would charge for the AHC

Where are you starting from? If, as your avatar shows you are in Norfolk wouldn't you be nearer to Dover Port - much shorter crossing and close to the Folkestone vet?

Yes but much cheaper on the Dieppe run and less road miles.
We usually do the chunnel but it has priced its self out this time

Do P&O do the Dieppe route Sonja ?

£130 and we may be starting out from Mo's sisters place in Essex so could have expired twixt leaving here and boat time

Unfortunately all around Newhaven are expensive John (Dad’s 10 mins away from Newhaven so we know the area). Our vet was cheaper than others in the area and is in Newhaven at £100 and now they’ve doubled it to £200! Parking would be an issue there in a van anyway, as it’s only a multi-storey.

Only DFDS go into Dieppe and only DFDS operate passenger services out of Newhaven.
I live 17 miles West North West of Newhaven and have used that crossing several times a year for 40 years, latterly using our dog's regular local vet but the AHC was £130 last July . (Plenty of easy access parking though).

We like the Newhaven crossing but our vet wanted £195 for Ahc and Abbywell £99 so we bit the bullet and booked the tunnel with Tesco points and the saving from the vet fees paid the fare.We pick up the Ahc on Monday morning and have the ferry booked for 2 pm and onto Spain😎

Are you aware that the AHC is for the dog's entry into the EU, and once the dog is in the EU you can go to an EU vet and get an EU Pet Passport. This costs less than an AHC, and is valid for at least 10 years, maybe the life of the dog. I'm not sure about that. Once you have an EU pet passport you don't need an AHC at all. Most people who take pets abroad regularly get them an EU Pet Passport.

On that note John - if you’re going to be going across at least yearly it will be worth getting Dillon a EU passport. We got Misty hers in Portugal earlier this year and she had her rabies booster then. €45 all in and used it no problem coming out for this trip on the tunnel.

Doesn’t save the dosh for the first trip unfortunately.

We found our P&O price cheaper than the Newhaven price. They had a 10% off Motorhomes in their offer page.

Yes, fully aware but there are good reasons we are not doing it
Dillon is 9 next March so it would have def seen him out :)

And that is one of the reasons.. At the moment the way things stand I do not know when or even IF we well ever get to travel again
I suspect this will not be our last one across the water but it really is up in the air
I am just praying that we will get away this coming year

Dont think its that easy anymore .
Would be easy for me..Got very close friends in Germany so Dillon could be 'registered' there. also family in France and Portugal so two other options, but as said, there are reasons I am not going that route

Was that with the 20% over 60's discount off the published price on the Newhaven route (if you're eligible)?

Calais to Dover
OK.. def out then mate.....
If we go to Calais we would use the chunnel ( Woman would tear off my arms and beat me with them if we go to Dover and get a boat instead of the train ! )

If you obtain an AHC from Folkestone you have up to 10 days to enter the EU John.
Looks like that s the way to go then :) It adds an extra 60 miles to the run but that is a lot cheaper than an extra £100 to a greedy vet !!
Next question then.. any over night spots around there ?

It was £101.40 without the dog lounge.
Just checked.. To travel in Jan return in March selecting the cheapest options

Newhaven return is £206 less the OAP discount which you have to fone for

Although we don't live in Newhaven we do use the Newhaven vet, Portside. They are excellent but really are victims of their own success. We had the same vet practice in Seaford since the early 80s (independent vet) when he retired it was taken over by a large chain, so a large number of clients moved to the recently opened Newhaven vet. They are very busy so it might be difficult to get an appointment for travel. As someone stated in an earlier post, parking will be an issue for a motorhome as the vet is in a pedestrian precinct and parking for cars is multi-story, on road spaces nearby are for taxis. A possible place to park would be Denton Island, over the river, walk back over the bridge and through the town - max walking time 10 mins. I have no idea of costs. There are also vets in Peacehaven, next town west from Newhaven, they have a good reputation locally, but haven't been there myself so don't know about parking.
