Somebody has mentioned documentation.

I want to emphasise that any new owner, whether buying new or s/h should make it a condition of the contract that owners' manuals for the base vehicle and the habitation area, plus all fitted equipment, should be provided in the buyer' first language or the sale is off.

I bought privately s/h, and even though I was the 4th owner after 6 years, everything but one, was there, including all service receipts, and still is if I sell on.

Good advice. Will take a good look at the docs, thanks!

Similar situation here, pickup date is 28th June. I’m preparing my list and will be emailing it to the dealer a few days before just to make sure we’re on the same page. Then planned a few days away the following weekend.

Based on the issues I have had with my Twin the the last 2 years.

  • Check all cupboards open and close properly. For the kitchen drawers and roof locker close then simulate going round a roundabout by giving them a tug to check they stay closed. I had to get the bottom drawer fixed.
  • There’s a metal striker plate which meets the magnet on the washroom swing wall, check it’s fixed securely and doesn’t move. Mine fell off, only fixed with small screw.
  • Check the recall for the 240v consumer unit cover has been completed.
  • Check the securing straps on the rear doors are loose on the door and the straps swivel as they close, one of mine was tight and the strap later snapped.
  • Open and close the read door a few times locking and unlocking each time. I’ve had issues with the internal lock cabling which has now been “tightened” 3 times. This disconnect the rear handle so I couldn’t open the door from the outside.
  • Check the side door insect screen runs smoothly, take care as if twisted at the bottom it’ll pop off.
  • Open the fridge and check it’s securely fixed to the surround, pictures on the Adria Facebook page of fridges on new vans falling out when going round a corner 😱. Mines been fine.
  • Check the spot lights at the bed work, switch on and off a few times as mine has an intermittent fault.

Other than that enjoy, it’s a great van, wish I’d been able to get an orange one!

I'm in exactly the same position. Not had a motorhome since 2007, and we really can't wait to collect week after next.

We are driving her straight to have some stuff fitted so staying a night in her right away. Dealer tells me they normally let them go out drained and gasless. I've arranged for one gas bottle and for her water to be filled.
Other than that my wife and I are being dropped off at the pickup (100+ miles from home). We have a pile of essentials to get us through the first night. Mainly bedding etc.

My main concern is making sure everything works - taking her back to the dealer for some obvious problem would be a pain.
Back in 2005 I had a major issue with a brand new Autotrail Scout. The shower never worked right from new. The dealer thought I was stupid, and the final time I took it back to them I insisted they try having an actual shower. I picked her up and they said there was no fault found, but I insisted they gave the me install manual for the shower. When I got her home I found the hot/cold were swapped on the input to the shower. It's not me that was stupid after all. A firm letter to Autotrail cc’ed the Dealer resulted in ZERO responses. So, for me, never an Autotrail again, and never from that same dealer.

Live and learn.
Ouch… sorry you had a nightmare … reputation is everything! I bet you’re happy campervan now though right? 🙏

Make sure the dealer has registered the vehicle with Fiat. Ours didn’t, so when I rang the garage for the DPF sensor they had no trace of the vehicle on the Fiat system. I had to supply a copy of the V5C to the Fiat Garage.

Register on Fiat Camper Assist…..ASAP. If you’ve got the vehicle registration details you can do it before collection.

If you want the Fiat three year extended warranty (at a cost) it needs to be done within 14 days of registration. (y)

In my experience the Fiat extended warranty has no provision for breakdown cover or recovery even though it says it has. Even Fiat Italy couldn't find someone to recover the vehicle. Also small print also says that recovery only if the cause of breakdown is a manufacturing failure so not the usual cover you would expect from a breakdown policy. The normal warranty has the proper cover you would expect. Enjoy the van, the orange colour is so cool.

It cost me £867 to extend 2 years to 5 years in 2019. The price includes recovery so there is no need for RAC etc. which knocks the additional cost back quite a lot.
Does that include free services? Or just possible warranty break downs.

That is a concern. I assumed the extended warranty had the same breakdown cover as the original 2 year warranty.

I had no problems when I recently broke down in Norfolk. I called Camper Assist, they called out the RAC for an initial assessment and then arranged recovery from Norfolk to Adams Morey in Portsmouth. I was only stuck at the roadside for about 3 hours and safely parked in a lay-by so it wasn’t classed as an emergency. It was outside the basic 2 year warranty but covered by the 3 year extension.

So did I.

The online information implies that the full Roadside Assistance continues for 5 years. My warranty booklet is with the motorhome in storage so I can’t check the small print. Perhaps you or Tighchris have your warranty booklet to hand.

Pausim I don't know why I couldn't be collected but I had to buy breakdown cover from someone else. RAC commercial were adamant that they had never dealt with any camper van with a Fiat extended warranty and never would. The next day when I contacted Camper Assist in Italy they tried to prove the system worked by putting me through to RAC commercial who promptly refused to deal with any extended warranty recovery! Anyway glad you were successful and I have another year left of the extended warranty but now have other recovery.

When I contacted Fiat Camper Assist they dealt with the call out and the RAC telephoned me to let me know when they would attend and what would happen if the problem could not be fixed at the roadside. After recovery Adams Morey traced the fault to a damaged part of the wiring loom caused by chaffing, which was attributed to the Carthago conversion. I had to pay the bill but it was refunded by Carthago.

My agreement has similar wording but I can’t find the Appendix 2 it refers to. I decided to phone Camper Assist and first spoke to Customer Services, who asked me to call the Roadside Assistance option because they would have the current details immediately to hand. This option took me to the UK RAC where I was told the Fiat contract with them included more than just issues arising from faulty materials and workmanship. It also covered punctures and recovery after accidents. I don’t feel the need to take out separate cover before the end of the 5 years.
