Try enabling ‘External Services’ and selecting ‘NordVPN’ from the drop down, rather than trying to upload a Nord config file. You should then be able to enter your Nord username and password. Perhaps the Teltonika/Nord integration is now upgraded to ensure the best server is automatically selected to avoid detection instead of being tied to a single configuration?

I did select 'External Services' with my username and password in the client area. For the server area I had to insert the vpn config file. All seem to be trotting along when I check my location was the ISP provider in Cardiff Vodaphone. The SIM being used is a Libara tied to Vodaphone so I made a logical assumption that it wasn't correct and deleted the VPN config. Today is another day will try again. Having been down this open VPN rabbit hole, the original Config example looked easypeasy but now it's a whole world of pain, well for me anyway

They are certainly not user friendly when it come to the interface that's for sure. They could make it easier to setup a vpn if they wanted too. These routers though are more aimed at enterprises really. Still they could deffo improve on it

Yeah. Most of the customers for these devices buy dozens of them, throw them in cabinets in remote locations, and configure them using the command line and config scripts. They never go near the web interface. Buying them to stick in a motorhome isn't a big market for them.

People are mostly using VPNs because some streaming is geography restricted. But if you're using a UK SIM when abroad, I think most of the time it locates you in the UK?

A good VPN with plenty of bandwidth won't make much difference to your speed. But if you're on a slow connection that's dropping packets, it can make it significantly worse. Or if your VPN is cheap and becomes congested in the peaks, it'll be noticeable.

The other thing is, it can be a game of cat and mouse. If a streaming service is trying to geo-restrict their services, they often block VPNs as they identify them.

No issues regarding throttling back, txt warnings regarding usage and kicked the backside out of it . My idea was if the VPN can be installed into the router directly that would be a bonus.
But it is not to be, as I have spent another fruitless day and all I have to show for it, is a laptop that needed charging. I'll just have to keep the VPN's on all our devices. That is until I get some answers from Teltonika.

From my experience on my 2 extended trips, my virtual internet presence was in the UK all the time. That meant the other half could keep up with her soaps. The grandson could read to her every night without fear of being offline. That is my take on it and I continue to use it in the UK. So my take on your second question is yes. I have never had a blocked VPN IP address, maybe I’m lucky

For what it's worth, I've had a couple of issues with config which I thought had been done correctly but still didn't work despite having clicked 'save and apply'...

The solution was to reboot the router and suddenly everything worked fine....

I know it's a pain (especially as the boot time is sloooow) but might be worth trying.

"Turn it off and on again" really does work more often than you'd think!

With regards use of a VPN, last year we used one and had lots of problems, bbc, I think will block use through a VPN.
This year we have not used it and had much faster speeds and no problems, should add we are using a UK sim (id mobile) which is unlimited so not having to try and piggyback site wifi.

I have a fully paid up VPN which allows up to 6 devices to be connected and have never experienced the hassle of being blocked. If that was the case I would just refresh the VPN and switch to a new server.

Really only you know if you require one or not, if you want to stream geographically restricted content in a foreign country without a UK sim card you will need a VPN, this also applies in the UK, if for instance you want to watch something that is not available in the UK but is available in a foreign country, you may be able to access it using a VPN. Other uses for a VPN are security, if you are using public wifi for instance you may wish to use a VPN to encrypt your data so it can't be hacked.

do you need a smart tv to stream from your phone/router cus i have a large (none smart= stupid tv) and i have no idea how its done, doesnt it eat data at a huge rate like youtube or worse ?

If you have a non smart tv then assuming you have an hdmi socket you could use an Amazon firestick to stream tv, yes it does use quite a lot of data to stream tv and on demand content, if you don’t want to count bytes you might like to consider an unlimited data contract.

Zac...... having just bought the same setup after extensive research, im mortified at your terrible results, where were you when you got these speeds ? i have only tested it in the house sitting on the window sill and in the van with the poynting lying on its side sitting on the roof - for comparison i have an identical sim in my samsung 5g phone and on all occasions i got roughly double what my samsung got sitting next to it.
both the phone and the RUTX50 have an identical smarty sim (three)
samsung in house 80-105gb
mimo3-17 & rutx50 150-200

in moho with mimo lying sideways out the roof = 294
samsung ouside the moho - 130mb

for the record main 1 went to top left (1) main 2 top far right (4) - aux 1 to 2 aux 2 = 3

as i say i am expecting a very differant reading out in the wilds of norfolk this coming week end but if continues to be double my samsung i will be happy.

For its absolute test i will go to caravan club site buxton - which, as it sits in what i suspect is an old quarry its a challenge to get a signal at all on previous visits.

My results were from outside my house and using my previous MU5001 mifi device as comparison, when they replaced the unit it was better but nowhere near the speeds I was getting on mifi unit in the same location. As previously mentioned it's not that I am not getting a signal, just that the speeds are dramatically different from the mifi unit.

If you can't get it working directly on the router then you could go down the Raspberry Pi route...

fishplug If Teltonika don't come back with any info, that may be the way. Stay tuned to the classified . I have increased my knowledge regarding IP addresses but not enough to get that damn black box hooked to the VPN. I did watch the vid and it didn't send me to sleep unlike other I have been watch. Talk about watching paint dry.

A little while back my rutx50 would not connect to the data. Well starting driving yesterday and 20mins into the journey I lost Internet which threw the satnav out as no traffic updates.
Checked the interface when I stopped and the data connection showed red not connected. Tried everything to get it connected and the only thing that worked was to reset it. Now I did do some updates to it a few days back but it was deffo still working as I can get to it remotely. This thing has been nothing but trouble since it's gone in. The issues seem to happen when you update it. So for anyone else not getting data after a few days has passed after updating. Back up the configuration and reset it then restore. This seems to work but it's a pita.
