Good luck...we have a similar system permanently fixed in our MH...although we use a SIM with a company that provides 97% coverage here in Spain there could be a possibility of putting ourselves in an area with little or no cover whatsoever....for this reason we have in our phones different provider SIM cards, these can be put in the Router which has proved a great success.

roadwarrior Are your running the latest firmware update on the RUTX50? I have and at first seemed quite daunting for a computer illiterate muppet . Now it seems second nature. There has been a change to logging into the router having changed from http to https and that requires me moving out of my comfort zone and getting it done. I have been reading the procedure for a week now and today is the day. Will report if I brick my router or laptop

Recently my maxview roam (which I think is the same unit) although working has been quite poor, my mobile on the same network giving much better results, just checked the settings and it was set to 3g/4g auto changed to 3g/4g /5g auto and transformed, speed tests now show 29.5 on the phone and 249 on the router, good speeds (just outside Seville)
Edit: just done again and now 380!

Interesting, I thought ‘3g/4g/5g auto’ was the default setting on the RUT50. Might have to go and check our box now. And install the firmware updates…

Check in the System>Firmware section of the OS to see if there are updates available on the Teltonika server.

I’m up to date and showing RUTX_R_00.07.13.3

Be aware that if there are updates for the modems as well they might be available sequentially, so several updates and reboots may be required.

Also I noticed that the in the ‘Update From Server’ section below under ‘Firmware Type’ it defaulted to ‘Device’ rather than ‘Modem’, so came back with ‘None Available On Server’ until I spotted it and clicked the correct one!

For a muppet like me it took me over an hour, flicking between 2 open tabs " how to do it info" and "actually doing it" The laptop cert was more difficult as the info for Google Chrome didn't match with the actual laptop screen. I just made it so the admin interface can only be accessed from the local side. Which you should probably do regardless. Then I just ignore the certificate warnings. The WiFi encryption should still protect the traffic from snoopers. And even if your router did get compromised, the link between your laptop and the bank should still be secure as the packets will be encrypted and the router wouldn't be able to read them.

Best I’ve noticed on 4G so far - it’s an RUTX12 and Poynting MIMO-3-17 combo - was over 300mbps out in the sticks on the west coast of Portugal with the sadly departed IQGO 200gb SIM in slot 1 and an MSE Lebara 99p 50gb ‘deal’ in slot 2. Plus it was running through NordVPN installed on the router!

It was also rock solid the previous year all over Crete and Greece with the RWG ‘World’ SIM. I’m looking with interest at the RUTM50 or 54 but as we’re mainly away from population centres I’ll stick with what we have for now.

I did say I was a computer muppet. I did have the laptop WiFi off and hardwired through LAN 1 connection. So blindly followed the information provided. Next step is to install my NordVPN account. Again, reading the steps seems easy and logical but I know from experience, I'm in for a whole world of pain leading to ultimate failure, maybe.

I think Teltonika have updated the instructions for installing NordVPN recently and it’s easier than it used to be. Just make sure you select the most appropriate config file from Nord to correspond with what you want to view - U.K. for Brit TV maybe?

Yes I did notice the instructions had changed, becoming more of a challenge to a computer challenged individual. Even the latest instructions don't appear to correspond with what I see on the screen. Thought I had it cracked but no. Some screens require information to be entered which I haven't got a clue about. Well I think this project will be on the back burner for the foreseeable future.

I always run an ‘IP Adress Lookup’ check with the VPN disabled and active to confirm it’s all up and running correctly.

Am currently parked by a farmer's field playing around with setting up a MODBUS TCP Server / Client which I've managed to get working to pull parameters from the Teltonika router.

Next step is passing that data on via the Data to Server service so that my Home Assistant can do things based on that information.

For example GPS speed can be used to trigger magnetic locks for drawers etc so when you're moving (and therefore the batteries are being charged by the B2B so the extra power draw isn't an issue) the magnets come on and lock everything.

Once you stop the magnets turn off, and no power is used.

You could also use it to close skylights and fold steps in, or switch lights off, or....

I'm also thinking of using the GPS coordinates to integrate with a weather app so that I can get an 'on the go' forecast without having to figure out where I am and manually type it in....

I've managed to get the signal strength data so I can also create a visible 'red, amber, green' gauge to show what the WiFi is going to be like....

What I should be doing is installing and insulating the floor, but instead....

I updated my firmware to the latest - and am still able to log in via http so not sure why other people don't seem to be able to?

The frustrating thing for me is that I can see there's a modem update, but whenever I try to install it I get informed that the modem isn't ready.

All working fine though, so I'll work through my existing tickets with Teltonika support on all my crazy MODBUS/MQTT questions before pestering them with modem updates!

If I have my VPN running on my device, my Spanish bank will not allow me access to the App or via the web connection...
Also search engines connect via the VPN country location...
Even Amazon ask me if I want to connect to the UK site..
Then why do I have a VPN as a Spanish resident?
Have you seen Spanish TV or listened to football commentary in Spanish
Therefore I prefer to enable my VPN on the device I'm or we are using...

You lost me by the end of the first sentence. What you are doing / trying to accomplish is amazing . All I want is my VPN in the damn router. Why, because the facility is there and my OCD tells me I need it . Not quite into self harming yet or CRTL/ALT/DEL the router because as I write the XL sundowner G&T is calming influence. Tomorrow is another day. Your last sentence is what I have been doing. Not asking just trawling for something similar with my task. Good luck with your projects

Been there, tried that....

Think I probably almost succeeded but just couldn't get the syntax for the topic path (and neither could Teltonika support so....)

I could connect various brokers to the bridge, and the logs showed authentication had all gone smoothly, but could I pull any kind of data through? Nope...

Probably doesn't help that it's my first time dipping my toe into these sorts of waters so I'm fumbling around a bit trying to figure out how it all works.

Was pleased to get some data back from Modbus / TCP though. Although I'm not entirely convinced I properly understand the figures I'm getting back on some of the requests, but that's for another day.

My reasoning is; as a visitor with a UK sim and the VPN in the router hardwired to the UK. I could switch off all devices, VPN wise until we got away from the van. Phones would see the VPN whilst roaming out and about. For me, I have a bee in me bonnet and I want to make it work ( A bit like lithium, smart shunts and B2B's) I will get there hopefully before the G&T's run out. Without a VPN in Spain I probably couldn't manage my bank account and not being a "Sport Billy" don't the football thing.

I would try following the guide that Orion posted and if you get stuck then just contact Teltonika support and send them screenshots of what you've done and an explanation of where you got stuck.

They're incredibly helpful. I've been really impressed with them.

No problem, i am thinking of changing mine as the download speeds are just not what I am used to and i have been using it now for a year, just under. I do like some of the functions though like the GPS as it can send you a text when it's moved but i prefer a higher download and being able to manage it remotely is a bonus.

Try enabling ‘External Services’ and selecting ‘NordVPN’ from the drop down, rather than trying to upload a Nord config file. You should then be able to enter your Nord username and password. Perhaps the Teltonika/Nord integration is now upgraded to ensure the best server is automatically selected to avoid detection instead of being tied to a single configuration?
