New rule to me

Mine is not a British van, obviously, and the hab door is on the right hand side. Is this a 'continental configuration'?
It certainly is.

There's a whole team of Inspectors sat at Dover just waiting to pounce on unsuspecting Continental types and forbid them from exiting their vans on the wrong side 👮‍♀️👮‍♂️👮‍♀️👮‍♂️👮‍♀️👮‍♂️

When we had our Welsh built Fifth Wheel we turned up a site we used regularly and knew the warden, young lass greeted us and said you will have to drive on to your pitch so for a laugh I did, parked up leaving enough space to unhitch which blocked the road all I heard was my warden mate pissing himself laughing, so I was allowed to park with doors the wrong way.

I cannot understand why the position of a door on a MH makes any difference to privacy, as one does not sit in a doorway looking out at one's neighbour. One sits on comfortable seats, and if looking out, does it through windows, which are on both sides.

So what has the position of doors to do with privacy

I can see it could be different for two PVCs next to each other

It doesn’t make any difference to privacy on a van either, I can always see out of the windows on both sides wherever I am sitting.

I think this unenforceable idea is just a hangover from the early days of caravan sites and holiday camps where regimented regimes were enforced. Those days are long dead, thank goodness. These days personal choice prevails but of course there have to be some sensible site rules but having a right and wrong for a door is not one of them.

We had a 'Continental' caravan (the model name). Would sometimes advise the camp gruppenfuher as such and ask which way should we pitch. Not all understood the humour, c'est la vie

There was a caravanner on the CAMC forum that used to get quite exercised over anyone having the temerity to park with his hab door facing his. If you are really that fussed about privacy then campsites aren't really the place to be.
