Hi all,

We ordered our first brand new MoHo in March, and with all that has been going on, have just had it delivered by the dealer to my home. Obviously in the excitement on delivery, everything looks great!

On closer inspection after a couple of days, there are a few things that I am a bit dissapointed about. I would appreciate your thoughts. It could be just me being pedantic.....

So, first thing is that the majority of the silicone on the roof is mouldy (very), see picture. Would you expect this on a new MoHo, or would you have thought their prep team should have made it spotless? Should I have to spend hours trying to get it clean?

Secondly there are 4 stone chips on the bonnet and a scratch on the passenger door. Now, they did deliver it to me FOC, but not on a low loader, they drove it here. So their argument could be that it happened on the way. Our last MoHo was 5 years old and only had a couple of stone chips!

A little more minor, but there is a blemish on the bumper and the lens built into the side mirror is cracked.

I just feel deflated after waiting so long for our first brand new Motorhome, it doesn't feel like it should.

Feel free to tell me I am being unrealistic, or, should I pass all this back to the dealer to sort? They have been sort of responsive so far on a few other missing items, so have no reason to think they wont sort it, but I don't want to be one of "those" customers.

Thanks in advance
Dean

Snag it carefully, check everywhere, make detailed notes and put everything in writing , Did you pay any part on a Credit Card(deposit) because if you have they will take up any issues on your behalf far better than most warrantees especially if the MH is not brand new. I buy all cars on credit cards (a lot of dealers don't like it) they are fully aware of the power the Credit card companies have.
Good luck, and I hope your disappointment will soon subside and the excitement return. :giggle:

Warranty is 10 years water ingress, 2 year manufacturer and 5 year M&G, all starting on delivery date.

Dealer is a couple of hundred miles away, but thought that the 20% discount we got was worth it.

Will check the date when it stops raining......

Sorry, dont know the difference between silicone and sealant.... ;)

Email sent, with a list of issues and asking for a tel call on Monday morning.

Tell them the call is being recorded time and date identify the speaker and record it

So, Ducato chassis is 2018, which makes sense as the Motorhome is a 2019 model which I knew about.

If the van cost more than £30k, then the credit card protection is not applicable

I can state through unfortunate experience that M&G warranties often benefit the dealer more than the customer.
Anything to do with airbags / airbag ecu was excluded on my policy - yet an M.O.T. fail rendering the vehicle undriveable !

Best of luck with your issues & we hope it all works out ok for you. (y)(y)

The sealant on our nearly 4 year old MH is nowhere near as bad as that. If you haven't yet done so contact the dealer tell him to collect ASAP and put everything right. You paid £££££ for a new vehicle not a secondhand one. If the dealer was prepared to deliver a "New" vehicle in that state it makes you wonder what else they may have missed.

TBH I simply wouldn't want to get confrontational or involved in legal/financial hassle over dirty roof sealant or the age of the base vehicle (unless it affected the warranty period) when on the cusp of relaxing adventures but I would expect the bodywork to free of chips and no broken lens.

If last year’s model ,it could have been driven to MH shows by the dealer and collected the stone chips. It looks like been stored outside all winter. I totally understand your feelings, and one would have thought that the dealer would have more pride in what they are delivering.

That, and the mileage relating to the MH shows could have been removed from the odometer by the dealer.

Not much discount for an old model that's been in stock a while we got that on a new factory order, perhaps that's why we don't buy from UK dealers.

You don't need any of this. As the motorhome is brand new, simply reject it under the Consumer Rights Act 2015. You have 30 days from delivery to do this. If you do so they have to give you the full money back within 14 days. You simply need to send a formal letter sent to them rejecting it. As it was delivered to you they cannot claim you have damaged it.

BTW who was the dealer?

Reads that you got a 20% discount which may be due to it not being a new build ? Anyway, what exactly does 10 years water ingress mean. I suspect many of us make up our own interpretation of that without reading what it actual means in the supporting documentation. If your covered against any damp issue as a result of water ingress through a broken seal with a free repair, Great! I would check the wording none the less, you might be disappointed. I hope not.

My understanding is, it is not quite as simple as this. There has to be faults for the item to be rejected and the supplier has the right to make any faults good. They too have rights I believe.

I'm wrong!

The returning goods timetable
  • Within seven working days – no-fault returns of goods bought online. Buy goods online or by mail order or catalogue from an UK (or EU) based business, then the Distance Selling Regulations mean you have a NO FAULT right to return goods, provided you tell them within seven working days.
In other words, unlike buying in-store, you have a legal right to send goods back even if they are not faulty.
  • Within a month – return faulty goods for a full refund. If goods are faulty, whether bought in-store or online, you are entitled to a full refund provided you haven’t ‘accepted them’. In a nutshell, this means you have had time to inspect the goods and reject them.
How long this takes depends on the goods – after all, fully inspecting a brand new £3 million pound yacht may take longer than a 10p plastic whistle. However, as a very rough rule of thumb, ensure you get things back in under a month if you want a refund (the Government is proposing to clarify this rule to give a fixed 30 days to reject everything but perishable goods).
Beyond this, you are only usually entitled to a repair, replacement or partial refund.

Thanks for the input all.

I am happy with the price I paid, and I am happy with the van subject to the points above. I knew it was a 2019 model and I am good with that. The inside is spotless.

I think, reading all these comments, it has just been left outside for a year. Well, it is going to be left outside for the next few yearas well!

Thank you for the info on my rights on returning it, I am sure it will not come to that.

I will update the thread in the week once I have the proposed resolution from the dealer and keep you informed.

Keep safe and stay positive everyone.

Thank you again.
Dean.

Try Elbow Grease. Get it in £1 shop or Tesco’s

With the weather we have just had the mould can grow in a few weeks never mind two summers and a winter sat on a dealers forecourt.
That will come off with gentle car shampoo washing, don't be tempted to use a jet washer or the dreaded Muc-off which will also remove and polish protection.

As for the stone chips that isn't acceptable and the dealership should put that right.

If its a brand new van, I believe that you have up to 30 days to ask for a full refund if you are not satisfied, after 6 months the dealer is only liable to refund you minus depreciation and current condition of the van. I think this is correct but best to check, Im sure others will confirm one way or the other. Ultimately after waiting so long for your new van, you will want to get these defects put right, so your supply dealer is your first port of call. I had similar issues with my Autotrail and Marquis did eventually address the issues, but it took 12 months! and a lot of hassle as they were 170 miles away from me!! I sold it in the end and bought a German van that was not new, so all the issues were ironed out by previous owners. Good luck with your dealer!

Reading all the above and other previous comments about "New" Motorhomes i have a few questions.
I am relatively new (1st van 3 years ago) to "motorhomes" and have a 2008 low mileage (18k) Autotrail.
Why would you or anyone buy something you cant look over before you part with cash ?
Why dont these motorhome dealers have these vehicles in stock ?

I see and hear (here and other platforms) all too often purchasers discussing their dissatisfaction when taking delivery of "New" motorhomes.
I take it that you have to pay a deposit when ordering a new motorhome and sign their terms and conditions?
Is there anyone on here that could produce a good "Terms and Conditions" for the purchaser that the dealer would have to sign (and dont order if they wont) so as to safeguard the purchaser legally should the dealer deliver a sub standard vehicle.

Pop your VIN no. in this site. It should tell you a bit about the origins of the MH
