Best of luck Squaddie and I hope it turns out to be a good venture for you. Take no notice of the moaners, as you say the choice is theirs and if more folk do as you have they'll have even more choice!

Definitely see your point about it being too cheap - I once stayed on a CL near York and the owner had to keep his eyes open for "travellers" all the time, in fact I was pretty sure the place was scoped out by an odd looking pickup whilst we were there.

Ive stayed on French Aires some at cost most free ,these are provided either by the towns people or council, who have the Facilities and funds to provide these Aires, Ive also stayed on Cls and private stopovers and paid £12 /£15 for a field with a tap and waste point and been Grateful for it , I,m just one of hopefully many more private people willing to open up what bit of land they have for the use of the Motorhome/camping fraternity we need your support or we fail and we end up with less stopping places ,

Here we go again. People moan because there’s nowhere to park now a lot of car parks are banning overnights and installing barriers.
Along comes a funster, at his own expense and with apparent help from No1, puts in a safe overnight parking spot in a scenic area of a beautiful area of the country and what happens? Moaning Minnie’s out in force again.
Maybe he needs a few £8s to check whether people will use it, fund and build black waste, and slowly improve the site.
More power to his elbow.
All some funsters are doing is putting a damper on others thinking of doing the same.
Rant over

Thanks for the link. The place looks fine but as a Scotland resident why would i want to pay £8 for somewhere with no facilities when I know the area fairly well and can park close by for free?

What covers the £8??
If your happy wild camping thats fine some people are not, I wouldnt dream of wild camping in Glasgowo_Oo_O

Exempted. The Secretary of State has prescribed that MotorhomeFun be given 3 paragraph exemptions from the Caravan Sites and Control of Development Act 1960. Paras 4,5 and 6. These allow us to rally on private property (4 and 6) and given certain conditions and inpections, exempt landowners from the planning required in the 1960 act (Para 5) We issue the landowner with a certificate that exempts them from planning.
Thank you for explaining so perfectly Jim.

I've no knowledge of this area specifically but I m wondering why so many people seem to want emptying facilities at every stop? It is going to limit available places, like the super convenient town edge Aires that France has that don't always have a service point. Surely most people can go a night or do without emptying?
If you get stuck into the wonderful food from Dumfries and Falloway, you will need to dump 😈

I’m entitled as much to my opinion as you are, and I will moan if I like.

I would say your lovely site has more in common with a CL/CS rather than an actual Aire.
Aires in general are unmanned and just a have a machine to pay for an overnight stay.

You’re more than welcome. How about moaning after, say, six months to give him a chance instead of putting somebody down before they start.
That’s your opinion which you are entitled to!

Planning permission is required for any waste ,which would add to my Rates and build cost, Ive already got he cost of the are to Live with, Most People just want somewhere Safe to Park overnight, thats what I,m providing . and its in a scenic part of Scotland.
I understand, I applaud you for pulling your finger out and setting the aire up, we will be up to visit in the new year.

Hope that by resurrecting this thread I might make contact with the owner of the Aire, or maybe someone has now visited. We are planning a short tour of part of SW Scotland. (We have been round the southern part of D & G, so going slightly more north) I am just starting to book sites. Had got a CL pencilled in to book for Newton Stewart, and then discovered Glen Duich Aire, which sounds ideal as only need one night. However we are not used to not booking in the UK, and we havnt been abroad for years. So do we just turn up? Is there a phone number to phone in advance like Brit Stops? Help please - just feeling a bit scared!!

more security maybe?

My wife would prefer this way if it was offered, and I would certainly use it if it could take 7.5 metre.

And I note it says no waste "at present"

This is interesting - thanks to the OP for setting up. Happy to pay for safe place to park up especially if walking distance into town. Will try to give it a go this season.
