Never been to Germany

We are planning to go next year to watch the Wallenstein Sommer 17th re enactment. We're planning to go via Verdun and Baden Baden and back via Rothenburg ob der Tauber and Koln. So looking forward to it. Wir koennen nicht warten

Last year in September there were a load of us information sharing on Germany with a lot of newbies. most of us went South West of Germany.
If you have a read of this thread https://www.motorhomefun.co.uk/foru...-august-september-information-sharing.225430/ it might help as it has photos and hints and places but unfortunately somebody destroyed the map I made of Germany with all the highlights on it so please dont ask me for access to it as it will make me cry.....again
When i look in google maps, places, I still have your experiment with stuff map pins and your Germany info sharing map with pins. However I cannot see any way of sending it back to you.

Bremen not broken this predictive text stuff.
Lived and worked in Bremen for over 3 years from mid 2005, as you say, great place, and lots on the doorstep too. Harz mountains are great, as is the steam train up to the summit of the Brocken mountain. Walpurgis weekend is fun too, and the whole area has lots of old architecture, being in the old East Germany.
I'm planning on heading across to Germany in a few weeks, now that the quarantine restriction has gone for entry via Holland - I'm going to travel Hull-Rotterdam. Might even catch a few Christmas markets too.

I ve got access to what you can see as well, but all the viewpoints, luges, vets, cascades, weinguts, swimming lakes etc have disappeared into the ether.
I might redo it with a "view only" option if I get chance over our Q period at Xmas as it ended up with quite an amount of semi useful info on there and will need to do one for our germany trip (following your route up to Usedom) in June/July this year and just read your blog about it. Thanks again for leading the way for me ;)

Hi.
We will second that, super site, some years back, there was a C/van club European Rally there when we arrived So they use it as well,so another vote for it.

We were pitched under the horse chestnut tree just outside the bar, I remember the old lady whose room was behind the bar , lovely lady gave us mementos and a bottle of local white wine . My pal John and his wife were with us in their Concorde , it was this time of year and every time the wind blew the tree dropped conkers on us .

We will also second that. We stayed last year. What a great site. Good pizza and good beer in their little restaurant. Would definitely recommend.

Hi. Belchenblik pulled in with our Twin axle Gin palace... lady in reception said. " Unhitch it there,Patrick will site it for you " ............ Patrick will what ? There again, she did not know she was talking to an " International Mega truckin' Superstar ",who's middle name is..... Patrick . It was the German Patrick that sited it........ Jennifer insisted.
I think it was from there we went to the Schaffenhausen ? falls on the Swiss boarder for the day and passed an old Railway museum. Went into Switzerland.... border guards looking at us-us back, kept going. Coming out at another check point got pulled over................... Big lad............." Can i see your passports ? "...... Now jennifer knew and so did i,they were back at the c/van,made a big show of looking for them when i went under the drivers seat.big lad stepped back adopting the Gun slingers attitude. Me...VERY quickly... ,both hands where he could see them. Found my " Derbyshire Old Farts Bus pass ",and waved it at him,it had my photo on. Big lad did his best to stop bursting laughing out loud..... " OK " he said,he knew the site we were on,watched us out of the compound ,nicely told us to never try it again and waved us off. Over the years,i have often wondered how many drinks he was bought, relating that tale.
Car hire there. Car was brought to the camp for a chap and when he left they came and took it back
Lake Konigsee ? Make a day of it there, as the boats do stops on the way round,so you can get off at any stop point and do " Walks " Even took Sassy dog on it,she had her own ticket, when the ferry was out in the middle,it stopped and Captain Pugwash played the trumpet............. Magic. make a day at the lake.

We had a holiday in the motorhome in 2016 it was fantastic really enjoyed the whole trip. We went upto Hamburg then onto Schwerin and made our way to Berlin and Dresden. We did a lot in the old East German side. But the best stop was Colditz, you can take a tour of the castle so interesting. We found that German snd Russian was spoken in the regions but not a lot of English. The tour of the castle was in English (precooked). We intend to go back and spend more time there it was a whistle stop tour!

Great place to visit. Very friendly and majority speak perfect English and like most countries, appreciate the odd sentence of trying their language.
Everywhere seemed so clean. No litter.
We travelled up from Austria and into Belgium and made about 4 or 5 stop overs enroute - all beautiful places.
Why don’t you consider outbound via the Channel and return via Rotterdam to Hull?
Shame Zeebrugge service has been dropped.

Hi, if you can open this (these) maps online with Google maps you may find the you can download the data as a kml file which in turn can be converted to a csv (Excel readable) file thus rebuild the original data. Failing that you should be able to 'share' it back to suavecarve

I have a similar map of our visited places in Europe, these are built on a MS Access database and exported to Google Maps with most of the data accessible on the map by clicking on the icon. The only things that are on the database that don't port over to Google Maps are the photographs of the locations.

If you pm me a gmail account I can give you access to the map, if you can work out how to locate the "lost" information that would be great

If you like old towns and scenery and also like to ‘travel with a theme’ then try the German Fairytale route. You can Google it. I could also provide an export of the places and the pins from my route planner.

Bad Toltz Christmas market is always enjoyable,Stellplatz just round the corner by the river.

I worked in Germany for four years and liked the Rhine countryside. I've had half a mind to do the Romantic Road but concerned that it might be too busy with motorhomes, rather like the Scottish NC 500.

We troddled down the Romantic Road two years ago over the Christmas period, staying at Rothenburg ob der Tauber and then continued down to Fussen to see the castles. For the most part, the journey was very lightly trafficked, it was really only the Schwangau region where we hit the thick of the crowds (generally all trying to get into Neuschwanstein Castle). We tracked back along Lake Konstance, and we both agreed, we would do it again without hesitation. Always somewhere to pitch up for the night, and never any issues that couldn't be resolved. Go for it, we were glad we did!

PS: Cologne for the Christmas markets (there are 8 of them to enjoy)

There is a largish Stellplatz just to the north of the City Centre (near the zoo if I remember correctly) which used to take bookings for the Christmas Markets. It's just a short trip on the U-bahn into the centre rom the station only 100m or so from the site.

If you're going to try all the markets you'll need at least 3 days as they're a bit spread out.

Hi.
Another very nice camp site. " Winkl-Landthal " Bischofswiesen. Very near to Hitlers Eagles nest (10 miles ?). Lots of Cycle and walking trails ,dog walking in/on forest trails. There is plenty of parking at the Eagles nest.if the m/ho places are full
From the site.( Winkl-Landthal ) they ran two mini bus trips out,one to some old music chaps place and another to some caves. There was a restuarant on site, but it was not open when we were there, early in the year. Enjoy.
Tea Bag.

We stayed on that Stellplatz, it was incredibly busy and nary a spare space at any time. We were very lucky in that just as we arrived a pair of vans were leaving and we were able to tuck ourselves into the better of the two just free'd up spots. As you say, ideal for the train just a 5 minute walk out of the Stellplatz and about fifteen minutes into the city if I recall correctly.

As others have mentioned, Stellplatz just beyond the zoo is 2 min walk to Boltensternstrasse tram stop. The tram will take you through the city and as far as Bonn if you wish. Although as stated the markets can be quite spread out in Köln, the tram system is really good and connects most with the shortest of walks. Also the markets tend to follow themes so you don't find yourselves looking over the same stuff at each place.

Email of link sent (I think)
There were a number of layers which from memory were Aires, Luges, Viewpoints, Vets, Cascades, Weinguts, Breweries with stopovers, Not be missed, Vets. All were loaded up with different Icons and there was information attached in a pop up

Otter Spotter there was a 2 page article on the Romantic Road in yesterday's Sunday Times Travel section. If you can't find a copy let me know and I will post it to you. We did it a few years ago and enjoyed it very much, especially Lake Constance and the superTitisee campsite. While pitched there we were given a free local travel voucher which took us by train to Freiberg for the day. All good stuff.

Southern Spain, well too many brits abroad really. Full English, cheap paella, cheap lager (which I don’t drink) and sangria, mobility scooters, basically Benidorm.

Don't agree with that at all. A few resort areas might be as you describe, but Southern Spain is a BIG place and 98% of it is nothing like Benidorm.
