NEC Motorhome & Caravan Show 15-20 October 2019 - Useful or Interesting Stuff!

If after shopping around & checking all the small print these insurers have quoted you the best cover for what you are happy to pay then worth mentioning NEC show to Caravanguard for a further £10 off motorhome insurance & NEC19 to Safeguard for a possible 25% discount. These discounts may be limited to new customers only & have other T&C opt outs but worth a try. These are from their leaflets handed out at the current NEC Show.
More info. about checking motorhome insurance small print here https://www.motorhomefun.co.uk/foru...icy-small-print-some-surprising-facts.187786/

We've bought some Isabella awning bags from TC before & they have quite a few Isabella brand & other accessories https://www.youcancaravan.co.uk/ & using code HELLO gives 10% discount if it is your first order. As always shop around online as even after discounts they may not have the best price at the time that you are buying.

Interested in VIN CHIP - this has been a standard security product for caravans for the last few years but now available for motorhomes for £34.99. Want to find out more about it so their stand 20.46 is on our list.

View attachment 338064
To get £10 off VIN CHIP call 03332124746 (standard rate call) & quote code MC19 before 31st December to place order & receive the discount. Unfortunately we just missed the relevant person to talk to on their stand to find out more about this but will give them a call this week as it's one that we are considering especially at £24.99 after discount. Link here for more info. https://www.vinchip.co.uk/

Tyre monitoring by Michelin have a stand and are selling their TPMS at £69, I bought a set yesterday, check against the ones shown in the post above to ensure you get what you need as I didn’t know about them, I went for them as the sensor display was nice and small https://fit2gotpms.com/michelin-tpms/

If I recall it correctly (?) Popeye had the Michelin version before but chose TyrePal the next time. Understand that once the Michelin sensor batteries fail you have to replace the whole sensor not just the batteries like with TyrePal. Any working TPMS is better than none though.

You know what they did mention that to me yesterday, they said battery life is 5yrs and it’s £40 for another 4 sensors so your right. The ones I bought are apparently a new version just launched. So anyone buying should be aware of the 5yr battery life but my view was something better will be along by then anyway so was happy with that for £69?

Had only seen Cabbunk https://www.cabbunk.co.uk/unique-patented-cabbunk-twin/ on the web previously so it was good to see it fitted on a Hobby van conversion at the Show. It impressed us as a well designed, good quality product filling a gap in the market for extra childrens beds in motorhomes. We particularly like that no drilling is necessary to fit it & that it packs away neatly in its carry bag taking up little space. It can be flipped back over the seats when not in use so the front seats can be used as normal. Have to admit that if we needed an extra bed for a grandchild (carries up to 70kg) Cabbunk would be a much preferable option to the 3rd bed kit that we have which blocks the hab. door & is heavier, more bulky plus needs complete assembly & reassembly for use. Cabbunk can be fitted to a wide range of motorhomes not just van conversions but if any Funsters with van conversions do want to buy this then they have kindly agreed to add the Sliding Door Kit (SDK) which is normally an extra £50 for free! (y) Please PM us & we can advise on the code needed to get this added to your order.

For all lovers of Quest screen house shelters there are new developments on the way for the Pro versions which already include zipped panels - now a connecting tunnel is planned to zip on to the front door zip. The lower height caravan version should be launched at the February 2020 Show & they are considering a taller version for motorhomes... This is only for the Pro not standard version of the screen houses. There is currently this canopy accessory option:

Spotted that the Pro 6 models can be zipped together (can add up to five!) too which could be handy for groups. Good to see that the poles on all models are now repairable too.

Nearly forgot ... TyrePal are now doing sensors to suit aluminium stems where the connecting parts are nickel plated.
Mr Wombles suggested to them that it would be helpful if the pressure readings could refresh occasionally (maybe once a day rather than the sensors be totally dormant) when the vehicle is static so the pressures show without having to move the vehicle - it would help highlight a slow puncture or similar. Who knows they might consider this when developing it further as lots of similar products available so might give them an added advantage?

Like others viewing at the Show we were concerned that someone would lie on this bed & it would collapse  as no visible bed support

but turns out the slats form part of the mattress

Quite a few models had this new mattress design.

On the caravan theme the Beauer https://www.beaueruk.com/ was a most impressive piece of engineering & design. RP motorhomes https://www.rpmotorhomes.com/ are working with the French designer on a new model the 2X+ which will extend to standard caravan size with a further section to form a "hard shell" awning - no photos available yet as it's in development.

Thetford now sell Grey Water Fresh to get rid of nasty waste tank niffs! If anyone tries it it will be good to know how effective it is.

When we tried the Truma LevelControl previously it seemed silly that it didn't work to an app. on our phones but now it does!

I picked up my MotorhomeFun stickers - brilliant. Oh, and a soundbar for my Avtex TV which was cheaper than internet prices.

Yes I did go for the tyre Pal this time and now that I've used them both I have to say Tyre-Pal is excellent. The cost of new valve sensorson the Michelin might be £40 for four but of course I have seven wheels as I include the spare too so that would be £70 and mine only lasted 2 years not 5.

I picked up one of their free samples so will try it in the next week or so and will report back. The product is not rolled out until next year according to the Thetford guy on the stand.

For those considering self builds Whale have new underfloor (exterior) gas & electric heaters to free up more space in the motorhome. Some manufacturers are now fitting this but whilst the Expanse is available to buy now the Heat Air may not be for a year or so.

Ecocamel who make very good aerated shower heads were launching their new water descaler (add Show Offer 10% discount code D10) - it sounds really easy to fit just fixing around an existing pipe but haven't tried it to know how well it works. See the link above for more info. & there is a one year money back guarantee too.
Currently for 15mm pipe but 22mm version coming soon.

The Etrusco A Class https://www.etrusco.com/series-a-class/?lang=en that we saw at the Show was described as a budget Hymer but to our untrained eyes having a very quick look the cost savings weren't obvious as they are in some other budget makes so maybe one to consider?

Just to confuse the names that we use for motorhomes - Knaus https://www.knaus.com/en-uk/camper-vans-cuv/ are calling what we would describe as van conversions or PVC as CUV! Stands for Caravanning Utility Vehicle :whatthe:
Thought the sink was very small on this Boxlife 600

I think we saw that but decided on the reservoir at shustoke. 4 Van's here
We stayed at the reservoir on Tuesday night, very quiet and a nice meal in the local pub, and now on the temporary site only £20 a night, no electric, but the sun is shining, so no problem.

The Concorde was nice, but it made the Morelo’s seem quite cheap. We spent a lot of time looking at the Palace. The sales team there must be sick and tired of people saying ‘when we win the lottery’ I guess they hear it hundreds of time a day, and they still smile ?
We stayed at shustoke on Sat night but whilst over the pub having a meal we got to speaking to another Motorhomer who asked the pub owner if they could park in their car park as there are now signs at shustoke for no overnighting. We didn't move as too late to start looking for somewhere else and there were a few other vans there as well. It was blinking noisy though with the ear piercing thump thump coming from the boy racers for most of the night. I have no idea how they listen to that rubbish, and the volume cannot be doing their ears any good. Don't think we will be using it again, could just be that it was a weekend but i didnt look very good either. Been here a few times over the years and this is the worst i have seen it, rubbish everywhere. The few spoil it for everyone.

After our two year wait to see a Globecar Summit in the UK to no avail we imported ours last year & now three years later we saw not one but two Summits on the Globecar stand! It's great to see the more modern light oak wood in the display models now too. The UK website shows six Summit models (with the clever bathroom even in 540) that should now be available here https://globecar.co.uk/the-range/ but the German website currently has more info. https://www.globecar.de/modelle/ - don't click on English flag on website as that reduces the models shown but right click & Translate instead. Some 2020 brochures here or from UK dealers.

We did chat to a couple of sales staff on the stand & it was apparent that they weren't up to speed yet :frowny: on the specification of the new models so would suggest double checking anything important online. There are quite a few Funster Globecar owners on here who can advise too
