Near miss ( I am an idiot )

You swine, I really want a burger with bacon now! It's 11pm, freezing cold and raining! And I'm on a diet! :LOL::LOL:
This was back in 2021 .Those burgers were amazing. They come from a local company in BBQ kit form but I’ve just looked at the latest prices . We probably won’t be that extravagant again 😂
They really were amazingly delicious though , so possibly an occasional treat. 👍🏻

By'eck, I see what you mean

Still saved it to my favourites though

Just seen - they're in Shrewsbury - that's only up the road from me 😋

Our van emits a high pitched sound if the step is left out once the engine is started. There is a button on the dash to draw it back in. Had my son confused when he borrowed the van and could not work out what the noise was about. The button saves the palaver of stopping, getting gout of the drivers seat and drawing the step back in. I assumed that this is normal, evidently not.
Can't deploy the step with the engine running on ours and it packs away on its own when we start up - I thought that was standard but obvs not . . . .

Some do, some don't, I'm not a fan of the auto retract ones as sometimes I'm finishing stuff outside whilst hubby starts the engine so would struggle to get back in, even more dangerous if I was about to go out and he started the engine as the step would disappear!

Our Globecars had electric steps but needed a button pressing on the end of the kitchen units to retract which was a pain as we often forget so I made a prodder stick which hubby could use to save us having to get up to do it. I offered to move the button to the B pillar near his seat but he declined as he was happy to keep on prodding! 😄

Mine retracts on the ignition and the times I forget the step has disappeared and nearly step onto fresh air so far have not fallen out but watch this space as I'm usually carrying something.......

Yes, we have both options and the steps vanishing when the engine starts can be a tad annoying especially for the co-pilot who these days appreciates a step up. There again, I haven't driven off with the steps deployed in the anti-cyclist/pedestrian position so can feel virtuous about that I suppose.

I started the engine just as my wife was stepping out of the side door. Fortunately it was a soft landing..:ROFLMAO:

I had to drive a fair way with mine out as it didnt retract at all. Bit scary that. Got it fixed in the end.

When we were very new MH owners we stopped in a layby for lunch while in France.

The sun was streaming in through our PVC side door so I wound the awning out a few feet.

We set off after lunch and had travelled about 1/2 km before I realised the awning was still out.

I bumped into the guy who installed it for us a few months later and congratulated him for how well he had fixed it

His answer was that we were lucky still to have a roof on the MH

:giggle:Thankfully all OK, it's good to read, as makes me double check, enjoy, nice awning

Our step automatically retracts. But I have a feeling I saw an option in the Sargent unit to turn it off. Could be imagining things though.

I decided our step buzzer was annoying so disconnected it.

Then decided annoying was better than hitting something so reconnected it.

It is annoying but better than taking out a car or pedestrian.

I will give it a go and report back.
Somehow I don't think you'd be able to with parts of your anatomy broken ... If you're still alive if course! 😄

I drove off with my then very new and straight wheel clamp still locked on until I heard a crunch sound, luckily it was a cheap one made of (on investigation) not much more than foil thickness box section, it was only as a visual deterrent anyway, no damage to MoHo so collected the remains and carried on, when we got home I used my engineering skills to cut off the lock part and the 2 curved clamping bits and used some stout box section I had in the man cave and rebuilt it,
As for steps my Cheyenne beeps and retracts the step when the engine starts and for EHU cable I wrap a loop around door mirror so I will see it when get ready to move (old school - mirror, signal, manoeuvre) as I almost drove on first outing plugged in - let he without sin cast the first etc. :)

Our very simple waste water drain is my bete noir .. I've left it down on the ground and reversed over it, snapping it off. Twice. Also left it down and worn the pipe and valve down to nothing as it was dragged along the M27.

There was . It’s stopped working . So I will never trust that again and always make sure I do a double check . Completely ashamed of my foolishness
Don't be ashamed, it's not your fault if the thing broke. It should have been designed to fail safe, i.e. always buzz when engine starts unless it detects step is in. Maybe we should start a class action against the designers/makers...

Hope it doesn't retract when old aunt Mabel is trying to get in...

ps. oh I see that's already been addressed in post #99 above. Scary.
Last time my wife fell out of the side door (missed the free-standing step we used in those days) she got a broken wrist to remind her to be more careful in future.
Messed up my breakfast but at least we weren't on the way to water skiing.

I'd go for an alarm in preference to automatically retracting every time!!!

I have an alarm that goes off when the engine is started and the step is out.
We have a button by the hab door and another on the dash to retract the step.

Frankly I'm amazed that there are van out there without alarms to sound if the step is down, and also what sounds like an obviously dangerous 'feature' where the step retracts automatically

As mentioned in the past, we have a pilot/co-pilot check list to go through before we move.

ockers locked
Awning in
Step in
Electrical cable in
Roof vents down
Chocks Away !

(Chocks/Ramps!, we have driven over them once and left them behind once!)

We nearly left a dog once ... He was sunbathing on the grass nearby and hadn't come in when called! 😄
