Current cover is for 31 days, I wanted to purchase the travel extension to go to 35 days, they want an additional £89
Does this sound right?

I had a quote yesterday for our upcoming 55 day trip, I was quoted £50 for the extra 24days for the two of us. We’re 57 and 55 with no illness although both have had operations in last 12 months but no extra was added for these as they were minor.

You actually need to have a return date booked for their 31 days cover too, I think most insurance companies are the same.

First impressions it does sound like a lot but we don’t know your ages or medical conditions. Those will make a huge difference. If you’re young with no medical problems or medication then I might wonder if they’d misheard and thought you wanted an additional 35 days rather than 4.

I phoned them today as my medication has changed, they said it was covered until by existing policy until renewal?
Does not make sense

Be interesting to see what they want for our 58 day trip December. 🙏🙏
Some of these and previous numbers seems like they pluck a figure out of thin air. 😳😳

We are with Nationwide.

Currently on a 43 day trip in MH to France & Spain

Before we left, contacted Aviva and quoted £155 for additional 12 days. 74 & 77yrs,: minimal medical history.

Thinking outside the box, contacted several other companies for seperate, standalone policy for the 12 days to follow Nationwide's inclusive 31 day cover.

None of them could beat the £155!

I think age is the major factor!

We recently had to give up on the new Nationwide FlexPlus / Aviva insurance. We have been champions of their deals for 3 years. Both over 70 , only one non-serious medical notifiable issue (microscopic colitis). They wouldn't accept multi-trips and max 120 days per year - £700 for 2 trips a year on top of £216 for the account.
So long and thanks for all the fish. 🤷‍♂️

To give a comparison, they wanted £125 for 45 days.
The real crunch comes whether one needs additional insurance because of pre existing medical concerns.

back in September we paid £60 for medical insurance, 2 people over 70, multi trip, 12 months with medical conditions
Now want additional £89 for a few additional days
I dread what they will want on renewal

I know that there are several??? members of Fun who were in 'The Job'
There will be several more that were in the Civil Service.

I didn't know until about an hour ago that NARPO (Retired Police) have a link
with the Civil Service Insurance Co. to provide Travel Insurance.

There's no hoops to jump through. There's no long, labourious conversations re medication.

Aside from some very serious medical problems that can't be covered, (and are fully explained upfront)
they offer very good cover .

Example 60 days cover in Europe for a 70-79yrs old COUPLE. £419. and AS MANY TRIPS A YEAR AS YOU CAN FIT IN!!!

That'll do me.

A recent article said there's a big jump in premiums at 66 and it then increases further as you get older.

Thanks for that Derek. I’ve just had a look to see if there’s anything similar for NHS employees and there is. Slightly dearer for a couple £469 but sounds very good but you have to start it by 74 and if you do you can continue forever! See NHSRF.

We have ours with our Lloyds Premier Account but with the extra payment Nick now has the above will now be a bit cheaper I think. Further research required over the next year.

We don't have Nationwide account with insurace but usually shop around each year. We are 65/66 and I have had a stroke and a few medical conditions. Just got a joint annual policy from Puffin Insurance (Axa) £199 for trips up to 32 days there are different levels available for more days per trip.

We have to add 15 days to our Nationwide cover for trips starting in April and October to Spain. Not checked with Nationwide yet, but a quick check on Compare the market gave us annual European cover for 45 day trips for £86. 61 & 59 with minor medical conditions.
Reading this thread ill be surprised if Nationwide will beat that for the extended time we need.

I have been doing a bit of research on the Civil Service Travel Insurance that Emmit mentioned and there are quite a few different groups that they have links to. They all have slightly different prices and a few different Ts&Cs. I’ve no idea if you can extend the time above 60 days for Europe or 45 for USA, Canada & Caribbean for instance.

I did notice that cancellation limit is £5000 which for things like cruises or exotic holidays wasn’t that high. It might be per person of course . I may be phoning about it after our next holiday.

Anyway I think for many of us it could be a good option. Police, NHS, BT, Post Office, Steel works, BBC (I’ll put my steel helmet on!).

Posted this yesterday in (yet) another Nationwide Insurance thread.

"Just priced up 80 day cover in Europe, with some medical issues, all under control.

Nationwide (Aviva) want £485, been with Nationwide for over twenty years (it's nearly doubled) and this is taking the pee... filled in their feedback form telling them so.

Got and excepted a quote from https://www.totaltravelprotection.com/ same cover £263.34.

Just to add, Le Shuttle wanted a similar amount to Aviva".

Using the Nationwide Aviva link I have today been quoted £127.56 for a trip of 52 days for 2x 71yo, no medical conditions. So £6.07 per day extra.

On the NW Aviva travel insurance for up to 84 x days, I paid £30 extra because of my Asthma, but Rita had to pay £243 extra, because she has a history of previous surgery for Crohn's (x 3). :(

carolyn and Emmit Derek, despite the CSPA saying that they cover Retired Civil Service and Public Service Workers, my initial enquiry a few minutes ago with CSIS, appears to exclude Retired Firefighters ............. who are/were Public Sector Workers. 🤷

Regards,

Jock.

You could do it by joining the CSSC which is the sport one, that is for Civil servants and Public service employees which includes emergency service personel. Madness. I couldn’t see teachers on the list I’m afraid Rapido925M

Basa Our trip upgrade was also just 4 days and came to £30. I guess it can vary depending on additional conditions added.

Don't forget the Nationwide cover also includes UK and EU breakdown covering not just your motorhome but any cars you drive too. If you need/have this it can cover the £18 per month so essentially the travel insurance is free. Also, the nationwide cover is worldwide not just UK and EU. - that makes it more expensive.

Added to that you can qualify for £100 payout from Nationwide each year if you have a savings account too.
