Must See Towns/Villages Mosel Germany

Today sees Rita and I, Mr porky Gareth & Phil, and garjanco Gary & Janet splitting up, as
Gareth & Phil head north for their ferry from Holland to the UK.

We met up at Ediger-Eller, and moved on together through to Traben Trarbach, Zeltingen Rachtig, Graach, and Bernkastel-Kues.

Here we are at a smashing Weingut in Graach.

Safe travels home Gareth & Phil, and thanks for your company over the last week. (y)

Cheers,

Jock & Rita. :)
A true pleasure meeting everyone, enjoy the rest of your travels. 🙂🙂

In Sedan today , planning to drive towards Trier tomorrow.
Think we will head for the Treviris Stellplatz. It seems the best bet for a Mosel beginner.🤔

We stayed on the Stellplatz a couple of weeks ago, it is big but well marked out pitches.

There is a campsite next door with the same name but more expensive.

It is an easy bike ride or walk into the town centre alongside the river or there is a bus that you can catch from the bridge just near the site too. There are details at the Stellplatz for which bus to catch.

FYI a lot of the attractions/museums are shut on a Monday but it is a lovely town to look around.

Boppard as said is worth a visit stayed at a Best Western hotel there hot weather , doors on balcony open all night overlooking Mosel , trouble was trains were rattling along every hour through out the day and night on the other side of the Mosel so if you're camping near river expect noise.

Well we got here , now in Trier at the Trevira Stellplatz.
It's full now. Seems ok.
I would agree with comments on S4S about the cost of electricity.
It's supposed to be E0.7/kWh but must be much more expensive.
I put E5 on my card which lasted about 4 hours. In that time the fridge was on electricity and we boiled a 350w kettle twice.

From Trier where should we go next?
Spent near on a week on the Mosel then went to Saarburg.

Have now gone over to Bavaria for Rothenburg and other villages along the romantic road.

All depends on what you like.
Bernkastle kues and Cockum we liked but there are loads of stops and personally I liked the river more the closer to Koblenz.

Whats the average price PN? Nothing fancy just basic sites.
We are there at the moment most stellplatz are between 12 and 15 euros occasionally a little cheaper Trier was 13.10 euros. Campsites are around 40 to 45 euros unless you use ACSI . There are more ACSI sites on the Model than the Rhine. We stopped at the Knaus site at Bernkastel Kues which is ACSI it said 22 euros a night however they charged another 3 euros pp per night local tax. The weather has been very mixed lots of storms a real corker at Saarburg which included large hailstones. Saarburg is definitely worth a visit nice walk to the town and was 13.50 euros per night but more like a camp site.

Agree Urmitz is a great stellplatz and Andernach not bad. We stayed on a site at Bacharach which is ACSI 20 euros a night really good.

You're right! Diesel £1.53 when we filled up. The petrol stations are also full of booze and fags as well!
It's now 1.70 euros a litre we stayed at the back of the Luxoil station purpose built aire free if you spend 50 euros on diesel at Wasserbilig.

We are planning to be in Sedan on Thursday night was it busy when you were there.
Not too bad (at the CCP Aire) there were I think 4 places vacant overnight. The previous evening there was 1 place vacant.

I noted afterwards there is an Aire indicated by S4S at the chateau.

The stellplatze by the Mosel were rammed last week and the lanes packed with ebikers.
Lovely colours though and the new motorway bridge is very impressive.

Yes , this looks ideal.
We will try it out tomorrow.
Here today, very pleasant after a very cold morning mist.

A super stop here.
Thank you.
Now in Bernkastel at the Knaus camping park.
E44 with ACSI otherwise I think it's E43/day. Our bill is E56 for 2 days. There are a couple of additional charges I shall decifer later.

JockandRita thank you for your pictures just what we look for.
Unfortunately we are in Bernkastel working out way towards Koblenz and want to further up.
We were very close to it at weingut Feiten yesterday.

Not many British vans here but still quite busy.
Mainly German,Dutch and French as you would expect but a few Scandinavians.

Some big expensive vans as well, Morelo Palace etc. and bigger.

Jake Royd definitely stop at Cochem on your way to Koblenz, the castle there is certainly worth a visit and they do a tour in English, from memory it was at 1pm. We stayed at a winery in Ernst just before Cochem and cycled in, it was easier than parking in Cochem and all along a cycle path so nice and safe.

Link here hopefully 😺

Jake Royd. We went in from Ediger-Eller on the bus, which ran about every hour. Face masks are mandatory on the bus, but not on the passenger boats, which run once daily to and from Cochem, pending your location of course.

The dearest Weissbiers and Cokes purchased on this trip, was in Cochem, at €6.90 each for a 500ml glass. :Eeek: €4.50 - €5.50 is the norm.

Cheers,

Jock. :)
