Must I get my Motorhome an M.O.T.?

I would ask anyone with an MOT due soon on their motorhome - "Can you see yourself using it in say the next 3 months?"

- "Do you really want a stranger in your van at this time?".

Apart from that as it is likely you won't be able to use it - that's 3 months MOT wasted.

Just phoned the garage all sorted. They are doing the work today will email an invoice and keep it there until we're allowed out again. The garage is in a village on the moors he says he will be able to keep it in the workshop.

We're in an interesting situation left the MH for a service and mot today. Phoned the garage at 5pm mot passed parts not there for the service and they are doing it tomorrow. Meanwhile Boris announced the shutdown. Would you get it done and risk driving it 6 miles home or phone 1st thing pay for the parts get it early and take it back later or what?
Just get it done and drive it home.

Well my MOT isn’t due until June but as it’s in storage and seems Comfort indicate it will still be insured, I think it’s SORN time until such time as it can be used. I suppose the only downside might be that there could be a bit of a backlog at qualified garages if in the meantime they’ve had to close under any future directives. Saving on SORN will pay for the test when it happens I guess.

There may be trouble ahead ... according to my crystal ball.

Some Fiat Professional garages had closed before the Coronavirus pandemic started. Case in point - Simonstone, closed in December without any prior warning. There was a thread on this topic on the Camping-Car Infos forum so Fiat garages closing is a trend in France as well. The slowdown in car sales could result in more closed Fiat/Chrysler/Jeep main dealerships.

It makes me wonder how many UK Fiat Professional workshops will still be in business after the Coronavirus restrictions have been lifted and whether they will look after the fleet customers first, with private MHs at the back of the queue. How far will we need to travel to get recalls, warranty work and servicing done.

The UK MH and caravan dealerships and MH converters are also at risk if sales during 2020 fall off a cliff. How many customers buy MHs while campsites are locked down and non-essential travel is banned? OK, Chancellor Sunak promised state guarantees for business loans by the Banks, but that begs other questions including willingness of the Banks to provide credit facilities to business sectors they might regard as more at risk.

Michael Gove was interviewed this morning on Sky News and said Garages could stay open as essential Businesses.

No I'll leave it now they have said they will look after it we won't be using it and if I didn't trust them I wouldn't use them.
Are your insurers happy with it staying there once the work has been done?

BBC News Website says:

(Quote) Can I still take my car for an MOT?
Garages are allowed to remain open under the new restrictions.
MOTs for lorries, buses and trailers have already been suspended for up to three months. The government says these vehicles must be maintained and kept roadworthy.
MOTs for cars, motorcycles and light vans are under review.
Driving tests in England, Scotland and Wales have been suspended for up to three months from 21 March 2020, except for critical workers. All practical driving tests are suspended in Northern Ireland until 22 June 2020.
(End quote)

I believe the 3 months MOT inspection for vans has been extended. I Googled DVLA and MOT ....... but I could be wrong.

I think you’re find that’s hgv that mot has been suspended, but the statuary inspection by workshop must still be carried out

don't like the government's implied sorn your vehicle as you wont be ble to use it for 3 months no allowance made for those who have no off road parking even more annoying if you have enough land to park on but no access.

So does this mean that our 4250kg motorhome doesn't need the due MOT? It doesn't specifically mention motorhomes.

No need to worry for six months

It is the same test that cars have so I assume the same rules apply.

Short answer NO look at gov web site for full details

Once again the genius suits sat in an office come up with a ridiculous answer to a simple solution, Mot's due after 30 march get a 6 month extension.

If your MOT was due before 30th March then you are required to book an MOT as normal.

Why is it that the government deem those due an MOT after March 30th should as per social rules can stay at home but those that require an MOT before 30th March are deemed safe to go out into the community.
Utter bloody madness, of course some MOT centres offer a pick up service but do you want a stranger driving or riding your vehicle especially if it is an expensive car or highly powerful superbike.
I know I will just sit it out and my bikes will be staying in my workshop without a current MOT.

Apologies if this is covered elsewhere. With an MOT about to expire in February, and not wishing to risk a fine, I phoned Safeguard for information on insurance cover. They said under normal conditions an MOT is a requirement for insurance cover but as the van is Sorned cover is granted provided the first trip out is to get this done. They have put a note in my records and the phone call was recorded.

Can't answer that. My concern was in case of storm damage, or other, while not in use, without an MOT and parked on the drive.

In that case I would shop around for a company that will give you the cover you want, probably get a cheaper quote just for theft and damage?

As an aside, the company I have all our vehicles (4) with (Adrian Flux) gave me insurance for my car whilst it was in bits waiting to be built by me. Currenlty my motorbike is insured with no MOT or tax in my garage.

If someone infected gets in it even that wouldn't be enough. One cough & it is everywhere. + they'd have touched the handbrake, gear stick ,lights ,seat adjust , sun visor, radio, you name it they could have touched it.
Bit like going to a supermarket then..BUSBY.

No point as usually the 'lesser' cover is more expensive as it's the exception nowadays rather than the norm thus the 'market' for it it smaller and hence prices high.
