Anyone travelling between locations or on their way home, beware some roads are still impassable, so plan ahead using up to date information..
Our planned getaway has been postponed as some areas are on clean up, which means some minor routes may still be closed to vehicles....

I'm off to Spain via Portsmouth/Santander & making my way down to Benidorm via the South side of Madrid on the 12th November.
Anyone know of a good website to keep track of road closures etc. please?

We just came from La manga to Aranda de Duero with no problems on the motorways and surprisingly no sign of any flooding etc, bright sunshine all the way!

Puerto Cabopino ( Cabopino Camping )
No issues here thank goodness. Rain and wind mainly during the evenings.
Temperature presently is 17.7c outside with no wind ; no rain. However this is the worst weather we have experienced in eight years of touring here. Supposedly to get warmer and dryer over the weekend.
Travel Well & Travel Safely.

Guess the French did us a favour rejecting our visa, we would have arrived into Santander yesterday with original arrangements. Hope everyone is safe and well, drive safely.

So sad for those that have lost their lives and let’s hope the Spanish government help gets those affected back on their feet. Luckily I left València Camper Park and the area on Monday and it actually felt the weather was starting to improve after a bad Sunday. The weather is becoming so unpredictable.

Oh they are all at it.
Here in Lorca since the 2012 flooding they have closed off a 50m wide 5m deep rambla that in 2012 was running full bore to the top, & made it in too a new bypass around the town & have diverted the water through two 1,5m diameter pipes!! Really???
It defies belief. The only people who will be affected are now all in the town itself. 🤷‍♂️
It will certainly make the water slower getting to where we live.
I really fail to understand the thinking on infilling of existing flood water defences in any area?
When we had the gota fria in 2012 the water entering the dam above Lorca was doing so at the rate of 2million litres per second at the time the 5 water flow meters destroyed themselves being unable to measure the flow.

here is a link to some posts I made on an expat forum back after the flood.

Absolutely torrential when we left Alcaniz earlier today, with heavy thunderstorms. Plenty of evidence of flooding all the way to Zaragoza, although the rain had stopped by that point.

We are back in la marina after 2 nights in el campello. Heavy rain overnight Monday and cloudy and very windy yesterday but nothing like on the news fortunately.
Hi Dennis, how long are you in Spain for? We are out 8th November.

We were due to leave on Wednesday the 6th but due to the uncertainty of road closures and the potential for continuing bad weather have decided to make a run for it on Monday the 4th. We're not trying to avoid you honest🤣.
But it does shorten your odds for music bingo!

Incredible weather news coming through affecting Valencia down to Gibraltar.
A truly tragic event by all accounts.
Very sad for the Spanish deaths resulting from it.
And yet all the "flat earthers" still deny that climate change is a serious issue and prefer poo-pooing the evidence from all around the globe.

Whilst I sort of agree with what your saying. I don't think this is the best time for "I told you so" type remark.

It's going to be twice that figure as the rescue teams are starting to reach more places that were underwater and mud.
Just seeing the images, it's going to be a higher toll. How awful.

It’s just horrendous isn’t it! 😢

Horrendous and outrageous.
Not the priority now, but after the people is safe and the bodies recovered, we'll have to think seriously about how come the phone alerts did arrive at 20h when there was red alert from AEMET (meteorology government agency) around 8h, and later (around 12h) came the alert from the CHJ (rivers and water management) stating that river beds and ravines where about to overflow.
Red alert from AEMET: Unusual meteorological phenomena, of exceptional intensity and with a very high level of risk for the population.

While a member of the EU, Britain was banned from dredging rivers, especially on the Somerset levels and around Norfolk. What is needed now is a concerted effort to dredge rivers, dig out deep the dry river beds and create run offs from towns and villages to these dug out riverbeds and dredged rivers. All across Europe and the UK, too many drains and run offs have been neglected for years. We have a workforce, all those in prison, if they work hard they should gain a reduction in their sentences, they could then learn new skills and be productive in society, providing a valuable service to the community. While paying their debt to society.
I am shocked that so many people have lost their lives, so close to my second home in Spain. We are returning in the Moho to Spain in Feb, but going to the villa.

The storm on Monday night was extreme down in Almería region but nothing compared to Valencia region, we are currently at Mazarron and we have yellow warnings for rain and thunderstorms, the winds are picking up a bit now 6.50am Sunday. Possibly moving on today slightly north of hear, we are holding back abit from travelling through Valencia region to hopefully allow time for the roads to reopen

So sad for the people of Spain

I emailed Camping Javea asking how they were, they emailed back saying Fine, very little rain. But those areas around Alecante that have suffered are heart breaking, over 200 dead with the number rising. As always in such circumstances it is the people on the ground at the time that are the first to provide help. Our institutions are never able to act quick enough, it is heart breaking. If you were going in a months time then continue with your plans, they need our cash even more to be able to recover and their reception has been warm for a long time now.
