Incredible weather news coming through affecting Valencia down to Gibraltar.
A truly tragic event by all accounts.
Very sad for the Spanish deaths resulting from it.

Quite a bit of discussion on this thread…

It’s been horrendous looking at the Facebook posts. I’m pleased we’ve been lazy and stuck around Portugal for longer than originally planned.

Stay safe everyone!

Yes but I'm waiting to hear what the experience of those that are there at the moment is.

Just spoke to my mate in la Marina south of Alicante and he said all the bad stuff missed them. Bit of rain but the sun is back out now.
We are back in la marina after 2 nights in el campello. Heavy rain overnight Monday and cloudy and very windy yesterday but nothing like on the news fortunately.

We live inland from Mazarron and things are normal here. Some heavy rain during Sunday night/Monday morning but nothing like was experienced in Valencia and Albacete regions.

It's been a lovely sunny day here today.

We'd been planning a couple of weeks away in the Albacete region, including the ravaged Letur, but put it on hold when we saw the forecast storms. How lucky were we?

You have been very lucky there.
Here's very dark and we are in yellow alert right now for thunderstorms.
Let's hope for the best.
News coming from Valencia are getting worst every minute

Yes it is certainly not good:cry:

We were. We were actually forecast 125mm of rain for yesterday but, gracias a dios ,it went inland & behind so yesterday we had nothing here except wind & sun/cloud,until late on when we had a short downfall followed by hailstones.

Yes I saw that the Barcelona coastal area & Tarragona along with Sevilla & inland were all forecast for heavy rain today. Stay safe.

We're in Nonaspe, Aragon right now and it's very calm. Earlier today, though, on the way to Motorland, Alcaniz we went through a terrific storm. Last week we were in L'Ampolla, Tarragona and we had 2 days and nights of torrential rain and thunderstorms. We were told to keep our vehicle under cover and not to drink tap water because of the floods.

Death total currently 72 and rising....
When I saw that gully in Valencia from the diverted river recently - for it is now a lovely public park - I was thinking how would it cope with an event like this, surely one would eventually come - This being southern Spain and all.

This is Valencia this morning reported 63 dead and many missing.
It’s a disaster for the city and residents.

Cadiz area....lot of rain this morning but nothing that would worry north Europeans.....grey and a bit breezy at the mo'.....normal service will be resumed on Saturday apparently.....!
I'll just qualify this post as have just been sent a couple of videos of street flooding in Jerez and El Puerto (where I am). This looks like drains unable to clear the rain water rather than the extreme stuff from up north..... tragic for property owners etc but no danger I would suggest.......

My husband is just driving back from Alcaniz to our rental and this is the storm we have right now. It's lovely to watch but scary. The electricity keeps tripping, too. Good job we have torches and candles but we're in a valley, pretty close to a river.

Keep aware of alerts 🤞

I will, thank you. I feel so sorry for all the dogs outside. Some are howling in fear. It's lighting the whole sky and constantly rumbling with thunder. It's strangley very still, though, but you can feel the electricity in the air.

Fingers crossed 🤞🤞 that you only get light rain. Are you in a safe (high) area?

So, hubby's just rung me. He was 20 minutes from Alcaniz on his way back here when he hit a road closure. Huge rock falls all over the road! The men working on it didn't speak a word of English and hubby doesn't speak a word of Spanish but, bless them, they wrote down where to go and even put everything in his satnav!! He now has to go back to Alcaniz and take a different route that will take him 1h 10m (Alcaniz - Caspe - Maella - Fabara - Nonaspe). He said he saw a lot of smaller rock falls on the way there this morning. It must be all the rain that's causing them, I guess. Anyway, he's under strict intructions to drive carefully!!!

Oh they are all at it.
Here in Lorca since the 2012 flooding they have closed off a 50m wide 5m deep rambla that in 2012 was running full bore to the top, & made it in too a new bypass around the town & have diverted the water through two 1,5m diameter pipes!! Really???
It defies belief. The only people who will be affected are now all in the town itself. 🤷‍♂️
It will certainly make the water slower getting to where we live.

Fingers crossed 🤞🤞 that you only get light rain. Are you in a safe (high) area?
We live 5km to the sea, but we live in a high floor.
As of now, still threatening sky, but no rain.
Thanks, you guys take care too.

The scary thing I heard on TV today was someone who stays in a town which got very little rain but got a flash flood which came down from the mountains and it washed their house away. Must have been a real shock :(

Just been reading there is a big argument and blame game ongoing with Spanish authorities over the delays in issuing weather alerts yesterday.
It said the first alert wasn't issued until after 2000 Tuesday, although the disaster started in early afternoon.
Hope your husband gets back ok HKF

We are back in England, crossing over on Monday 28th October and getting home Mid afternoon, we set off from Alicante and came through Valencia on the AP7 last Thursday 24th October but we did have a massive Storm on Tuesday night/Wednesday morning 22nd/23rd but the 24th was clear and warm all the way up the AP7, I don’t think anyone was thinking it would storm even worse, again so soon. Its some distance from my villa, but I know it’s affected as I have lost the cameras on one side of the house and my care taker said I lost all the lights and 75% of the sockets, the trip switched having tripped, it must be a earth by water ingress, and the electrician is on his way this week.
I hope my many friends are safe and well,

Thank you, he's just got back now! Very tired, it's been a long day for him. The storm has stopped now and all seems well. We have to go back to Alcaniz tomorrow, before setting off back to France.
