Motorhome sold, bungalow sold…….

Well it’s been a crazy 2 months since we got back from a winter in Spain. We decided to sell up and move to Spain permanently as we are at our happiest when we are there. We put our bungalow on the market and it sold the next day!! We enquired about exporting our beautiful left hand drive Hymer but the estimated cost of €30,000 put paid to that idea however the friends we travel with jumped at the chance to buy it so that was another obstacle removed. It was with great sadness that we watched them drive off in it today. We move on Tuesday as the sale progressed really quickly. The other stumbling block was the strike at the UK Spanish consulates which was announced the week we sold our bungalow however we discovered today that the strike is over so no more hurdles hopefully. All we need now is our appointments for our visa applications and hopefully that will be the last hurdle sorted. We will buy another motorhome once we are settled in Spain. How exciting :dance2::gum::sun:
We are going to be homeless in two weeks time lol, we exchanged last week, we are going to travel for a year or so, most likely candidates to settle are France and Spain, with Italy and Greece as a runner up, love greece, but is just a bit far really,

That’s excellent value, what level did you choose as I did see they have many choices, AXA quotes are in the region of £ 8.000😱
I can’t remember off the top of my head. I think picking a comprehensive cover with added dental was €2400. We haven’t taken it out yet as we’re waiting for our NLV appointment so I’ll examine it more closely nearer the time. £8000 is crazy!! :X3:

Best of luck you two. No more wintering in Goa ?
Sounds like a real life change for you both.
Phil and Gill
Maybe not 5 months in Goa anymore but we haven’t dismissed a month to 6 weeks in the future :rofl:

good luck with everything.

Sounds like a big leap. Hopefully it will make your life happy.

Everyone’s circumstances are different, from family to health and wealth.

We already have a house in Spain and would have liked to have applied for residency pre brexit. But family, business and many other reasons meant we didn’t.

Is it seems it’s a lot harder to apply with lots of added hurdles and costs.

We have seen another property we like in Spain to buy and have considered doing just what the OP have done.

But I’m not sure I want to sell everything, close my main business and then come across rejection for application.

For that reason, we are waiting in the wings to see what happens.

Just caught up on this thread.

Why can you not apply for residencja and wait for answer before deciding to close up in UK?

I am sure you could prove all the financial requirements and get health insurance, which seems what they are most interested in.

The one thing you need to be aware of is the liability to pay capital gains to the Spanish authorities on any profit if you sell a property in the UK and become tax resident in Spain the same year. We can’t move to Spain until September for this reason. Cheeky lot the Spanish

Update on our situation now the strike is over! We were offered an appointment for the first week of May but as we’d already booked Egypt and the consulate keeps your passport pending a decision we turned it down so we were offered 17th June which we accepted. 🤞🤞🤞

Great advice, thank you .

Update at last!! After 11 tortuous weeks of waiting (we were told it would be 3 weeks!!) because of a backlog of claims waiting to be dealt with in Madrid we finally have our visas :dance2: . We move to Spain on 26th September and then it will be time to house hunt and search for a new motorhome :hi5::sun::cycle:🇪🇸

We had an email from Casas Manuel to ask if we’d be happy to be on a show but it’s not for me although Glynn said he would

Best wishes for the next stage of your adventure. :) I assume the visa gives you 6 months or so in Spain and during that time you apply for residency?

It’s a 1 year visa followed by 2 x 2 year visas before you can become permanent residents. We have 30 days to register on the Padron and arrange an appointment for our TIE

The main criteria is proving sufficient income to meet the new higher requirements post Brexit. You must also have private medical insurance initially but that’s no problem. Fingers crossed they look kindly on our application 🤞🤞
Ok, shouldn’t you have sorted that out before selling up? If your application gets rejected you’re kinda stuffed!
I hope it doesn’t by the way and I hope it all goes to plan. Just seems a backwards way to do it.

I’m not sure I understand what you mean? What didn’t I sort?

Could you, if you wish. Simply apply for residency immediately, TIE.

Or is it just the way you chose to do it, vos NLV?

We are booked to see a lawyer again in two weeks time ti review the situation.

The TIE is your residency card but to get permanent residency you have to have done the 5 year process by renewing your visa twice more . Hopefully the renewals will be less traumatic than the initial application
