Motorhome Snobbery

You can't always judge people's wealth by what they own/drive/ride/live in. The person who drives a £100,000 motorhome may have sold their soul away on hp to buy it and live in a small terrace house or committed their whole pension lump sum on it, but they are spending their money on their chosen lifestyle. The guys in the 2 million pound house may own a £10,000 MH because they can't justify paying any more for the few weeks a year they spend in it. I could have bought a top of the range Harley with what we've just paid for our MH but we chose to keep our 15 and 10 year old bikes and plan future travels in a motorhome. The bikes will still get used but unlikely for long trips now. Snobbery isn't about how much money you've got but about thinking and acting that you are superior to other people. There's a lot of it in the motorcycle world especially amongst Harley and BMW riders. I suppose we all form stereotypes of different groups of people.

That's the least of his problems
Sorry Howie @Wyaye wires

I won't demean myself by abusing you Graham...

As an ex local government officer, I have no doubt that others have done it more accurately and eloquently than I could!!!

Love you too...

I'm sure there will always be a touch of snobbery in all walks of life so I guess we "motorhomers" as a group will not be immune to it.

It is noticeable on this thread that tuggers come in for a bit of stick - why? We are all "Campers" enjoying the outdoor lifestyle whilst exploring new places.

Most of us were tuggers at one time so why do we think that tuggers are snobs?? after all most MoHos cost more than the average car/caravan combination especially when you take into account that in addition to a MoHo nearly all of us also have to buy a car for every day use.

I am not... and never will be... a "camper".

I don't camp.

JJ

I'm afraid to say we encounter snobbery all the time on aires. Nobody wants to park next to us!
It isn't until an aire gets full that we get anyone parked near us.
And we don't use a SOG!
Somebody (on the dark side) did once say our van 'looked funny'

If the weather and location is right, I prefer to sleep in my £10 bivvy bag rather than my motorhome. Where would that put me on the snob ladder?

Never came across any kind of snobbery, mind you we tend to keep ourselves to ourselves
What I have noticed though, is peoples inconsiderate behavior, namely;

Emptying grey waste onto the ground, under their van rather than moving a few feet to the dump station.
Playing music loudly, or shouting and screaming, late into the night.
Using the drinking water tap to rinse their toilet cassette.
Taking up two spaces in an aire (awning and chairs out), preventing other people from parking.

I would be honoured to park next to your van,,it looks ok to me!!

You do realise that not only did you get the wrong bloody train going, you also got the wrong one coming back???

You're in Lincolnshire mate not Lancashire!!!:sneaky::sneaky:(y):whistle:

I remained in the same country, speaking (almost) native tongues.

About the wrong train.....
Fenham was a bus ride, so to get on a train going waaaaay north??

Kettle...pot...blackarse?? :moon2:

we pulled in to a campsite one weekend, i was told to go to the far corner as the pitches were bigger.
already parked was a newish(09) mh, door open and people talking.
by the time we had got set up, they had closed the doors, closed the blinds and we idnt see them till they left on the monday morning.
bunch of stuck up sods, other people came round for a chat and a nosy.

Oh yes at least 47 meters apart and visits by invitation only after we have carried out a ENHANCED CRB CHECK, that should eliminate most German motorhomes owners, socialists, guardian readers, anyone who has even the remotest connection to the counties of Yorkshire, Lancashire, Derbyshire and the whole of Watford. People who drive seats , audi any anything older than 4 years old. False teeth and sufferers of flatulence are not welcome, besides that, you are more than welcome to apply for tickets, normal t&c apply.
