Motorhome Prices rising fast

I find it hard to believe that a £70000 motorhome costs a Extra £9000 to build , I think a lot of the price increase is supply and demand, the bubble will burst, especially if it pees down with rain in next year's holiday period, I believe that not all buyers in the last couple years are dedicated Motorhomers like on here.
I think someone mentioned before that the manufacturers profit percentage has hardly changed. I've got no idea how chassis costs have changed but the materials for our house extension have drastically changed the past few years and I suspect labour costs have too.

I agree.
We purchased a new motorhome last year for £62K.
Price this year £72K
Price for next year is over £80K!!!
We really like our motorhome but it is not worth £80K.
This level of increases can't continue.
There is a major correction coming which is only being delayed due to the limited availability of new vans.
But - it will happen.

I am sure on a 10k increase the manufacturers will stick a little bit on but Peugeot for instance have stuck a £7000 increase on the Boxer which wont help.

Those figures aren't that far off the general rate for inflation a bit higher but I suspect there are lots of things that have increased even more.

As I said on another thread the other day I went on the Fiat site and priced a panel van.

Nothing special, LWB, 180 engine & Auto box, Cruise control & Traction plus came out at £59k could have easily put over £5k more of extras on it.
It gives you an idea why motorhomes had gone up so much.

Makes a MH look cheap

That's what I thought, I think the Motorhome converters are taking the sick for it & it's not their fault.
Also not being able to get base vehicles to complete orders must be really crippling them.

While we were looking for a new motorhome last Autumn I was shocked when the price of a brand new vehicle we were interested in went up from £63k to £65k while we looked at it and then on to £68k 3 days later. We went elsewhere & got an extra £4k for our PEX.

If the cost rise in building materials is any thing to go by.
I can believe there their costs have risen by 9k

I built an 8m x 3m summerhouse this year.
Materials were around 5.5k.

If I had done it 2 years ago it would have been around 3.5k

Labour costs not changed much in the past 2 years.

I've advertised my van at what I think is a fair price. Just had a dealer out to professionally value it and he has priced it at £5000 more.
Trying to find a good replacement is proving difficult as most are 3500kgs and to upgrade is to expensive.

Think materials have gone up plus where there is a shortage dealers are not giving discount like before.
I got about 15% off my van from a German dealer 2 years ago and now new vans are not discounted, he had one for sale a bit older than mine a few months back and that was up for £5k more than I paid him for mine new 2 years ago😳😳

Market is very good if you are selling to pack it in but not for buying.

That’s what I keep telling my good friend who wants to buy mine, but he thinks I’m trying to fund a Morelo with the proceeds, you know who you are

But wholesale would be half of that depending on amount bought even more possibly depending on customer.CTB I cannot believe has changed from years ago at 25% of factory gate price.

Don't forget the dealers are already making a killing on what you have ordered before increase ( I'm not saying they make 6% like on cars if they are lucky ) Motorhome dealers make a lot more than that, and in the small print on my terms is if they have an unavoidable increase like fiat chassis they can increase the quote that's if you still want to go ahead and buy

I do have sympathy with the smaller dealers - I’ve ordered my Rapido from Wokingham Motorhomes and they’re a small family like business - I suspect their sales have dropped with the supply issues so overall income is likely to be down.

Not in all circumstances. There will a number of buyers with confirmed ‘price protected’ orders - many going back 12 months or more - that are frozen at a pre-increase price. That will be held from manufacturer to importer (if applicable) to dealer to buyer.

We have decided that the way prices are rising that we will keep ours now until either I can’t drive it or it falls to bits.
Oh, hang on ! It already has, it’s an Autotrail 😈

At least if you get one you will have a bit of cash left over😁😁

I was talking to a Ex. Car salesman at the Nec. Some time ago and he said he could not believe the margins of profits on Motorhomes he said we are not talking about 10 or 15 % so I assume it's more.

Our local van dealer told me he is able to buy VW T6 for 35% discount but not allowed to sell before 12 months - so you are right, wholesale and retail are two entirely separate markets. What do EHG and Trigano pay for base vehicles when they order thousands?

They have. I work on very large construction projects and the typical cost of building an office block, school or whatever has increased by around 20% due to increases in the cost of energy and materials. British Steel recently increased the cost of their steel by £100/T and shortly after another £150/T without warning. Plasterboard has been going up and is increasing by mid teen percentages in January, brick going up by circa 20%-25% between now and the end of the year etc. Labour costs have been rising and expected to go up by another 5-10% in what is a very tight labour market.
