Motorhome Prices rising fast

Motorhome salesmen are getting lazy , contacted Brownhills about used campervan they had for sale , ive bought all my vans from them used of course but this salesman was so. Useless and lazy to do a deal he sent me an email saying that the van I was looking at wasn't good enough and they were going to sell it to a dealer rather than a customer ????, not good enough it was on th euro site for sale at £49.500 but he says it wasn't good enough ??? Or he didn't have the negotiating skills to do a deal with me , I won't be back at Brownhills motorhomes in Newark .

It's possible that they or a potential buyer spotted a fault (or faults) which the dealer is unwilling to fix (damp?) because they either don't have the facility or it would be too expensive to fix.
Dealers prefer to unload iffy vehicles to the Trade or at auction.

Probably just trying to get rid of you because they got a better offer.

Either that or they realised it had faults and if they sold it the cost to fix them would wipe out the profit and more. In that situation they could have done the sums and just decided to sell on through the trade to someone who could do the work and maybe turn a small profit or bodge it and sell on. If that was the situation good on them it suggests they only sell things they think are in good condition that's a plus.

Listening to Liz Truss this morning, reading between the lines , things are going to get tighter, finance will get more expensive, I have a Drawdown pension that relies on the Stock Market , I stopped drawing on that a month ago as I saw the Capital start taking a fall, I think looking at the state of the country, more people will be using Savings to live instead of buying luxury products, such as Caravans/Motorhomes until things quieten down.

Well we have given up trying to buy our first motorhome.
We had a short list of makes and models, but our budget and savings just cant keep up with constantly inflating asking prices.
As we dont have an existing motorhome to part ex., we cant take any advantage of an existing m/h also going up in price, which would soften the blow.
At least we can still be members of Motorhome fun, and follow the escapades of others ;)

It is the first time buyer it really hits, although we are having to pay 20k more for our van on order than we would have had to a year ago we are getting 20k more for our trade in.

I have a Drawdown pension that relies on the Stock Market ,
I took an annuity pension but on an invested fund so it goes up and down each year depending on investment returns. Just had a £500 per annum increase this year even if it goes down 1k next year it will still be a lot higher than if I had taken a straight annuity.

Would I be correct in saying you can’t pass on funds from an annuity when you pop off?

It feels like a sellers' phony market at the moment. I suspect that the MH steep price increases have been sustained by PCP deals, similar to the new luxury car market. I was astonished to read about people willing to pay £900 a month to lease VW Californias. Bonkers or what.

After mortgage interest rates go up and borrowers' current 2 year fixed rate deals expire, coupled with the much higher energy price cap, the PCP / lease offers that had been based on almost zero interest rates will also become much more expensive in terms of higher monthly payments. A triple whammy for people who are currently somewhat over-borrowed to sustain their high end lifestyle.

The future for MH manufacturers doesn't look rosy to me. Some of them will go bust.

Yes but the boss gets half the amount for the rest of her life.
I didn't have enough in my fund to make a drawdown viable.

I expect it will be the budget end of the market that will struggle, they tend to be at the end where people are borrowing to buy.

Ahh I thought it all disappeared, that’s not quite so bad as I thought then.

Depends on the deal you take a lot your annuity drops about 20% if you opt for the wife having half after you are gone.
With the investment one I took if I popped off within the first 5 years wife got the full amount for the rest of the 5 years then dropped to half. I took it 10 years ago at 62.
Over the 10 years I've been getting 60% per annum more than if I had taken a straight annuity with the 50% to the wife if I popped.
It's a risk you take, it's been good for me.

It didn't stop them selling a WET van to a mate of mine.
And, they had the chutzpah to admit that they knew it was WET when he discovered the WET! several months later.

Seems a shame you have given up. Maybe look at slightly older vans? You can have exactly the same adventures and fun in a 20 or 10 or 2 year old van.

Naw it's still for sale on their site for £49,500.

Maybe I'll look at a van conversion like the quirky campers web site ,

We have been in contact with Brownhills since January this year re a new Itineo CM660. They were due out about now. Couldn’t get a price out of them as “they hadn’t had the info from Rapido, who make Itineo, so couldn’t quote”. Long story short, after emails and calls proved futile we visited them two weeks ago to be told that they won’t be stocking them due to Fiat being unable to supply enough chassis’. Nice of them to let me know. Another lost sale for them.
We then went to SMC round the corner as we were thinking about a Globecar PVC and had been in touch with them. Earliest delivery was vague to say the least. 6 months ago the nearest they could give me was sometime in 2023. Anyway, went in the showroom and climbed all over the Globecars they had in for a good half hour. Not one person spoke to us in all that time. Walked away. Another lost sale.
We will hang on to our 2012 Autotrail Comanche, bought from new, until sense prevails in the motorhome sales department.

Providing I survive another 4 to 5 years I will be in profit on what was in the fund.

Just seen our previous van at a Dealers for sale at over 5k more than we paid for it 6 years ago!!

Reminds me of the woman complaining at a market stall that their bananas were priced a lot dearer than at the stall opposite.
"So why didn't you buy them there?" replied the guy on the stall.
"They didn't have any" said the woman.
The punch line is - "when I don't have any, mine are even cheaper"!

Just looking at new Motorhome Prices , vehicles around £70000 going up around £9000, Will this start to kill the market, it will be interesting to see how sales go at October's Nec
My S/H mho seems to be plummeting in price

I have an RP Rebel on order. The prices have just gone up around 12%, mainly due to increased material costs. The base Merc Sprinter is more expensive as are all the add-on bits. :(
