3 years 30,000 miles UK and Europe.. Campsites and off Grid.
I bought my motorhome brand new in March 2021. Insurance cost with Comfort was £341. No previous motorhome driving experience. 8000 miles limit.

March 22 it went up to £387 although I did increase miles to 10,000.

March 2023 Comfort have asked for £428 for same cover as last year.

Is this reasonable? 2 years of driving experience, No claims and a another increase of over 10%. Is this just inflation?

Also, is this a reasonable price for 60 year old in a £60,000 van parked on my drive. (I know - area can affect premiums). Just don't want to over pay.

We've just experienced something similar with Comfort having been with them for 6 years. Check out Saga, though usually more expensive, they were more competitive this time so we've switched to them.

A broker once told us that the price is dependent upon how keen the insurance company is for the business. Looks like Comfort are happy with their level of risk and don't want or need to extend that with more policies.
No, it is all about inertia...the longer you stay with them, especially if you auto renew, the more your premiums will increase because the perception is that you are more likely to let it roll over to renew. It is also possible that increased premiums are a reflection of the increased cost of repairs, given the current inflation rate.

Hiya yeah I’ll be full time although I do have my parents address for the odd occasion I’m back in Scotland 👍
Comfort and I think there maybe one other company that does full time insurance. Comforts cover is stated as 365 day European cover but individual trips are limited to 90 days unless you have full time cover.

Just make sure they know that it has increased
It won't be on a sum assured basis, in the case of a total loss it will be on current market value, which you can evidence if the insurer offers too low.

Unless you have a "new for old" clause !!

Just renewed my Full Time policy via AIB, underwritten by Aviva. The only option I could find for Full Time was with Comfort.
The FT policy includes Breakdown cover (UK and Europe), 365 days European cover, unlimited mileage.
Made a claim last year for storm damage which has increased the policy price this year but no hassle with them paying out.
Be aware FT policy is expensive as you are insuring your contents etc as much as the van itself and this does come at a price. Certainly forget anything you have reread from people looking for standard Motorhome insurance, FT insurance is well into 4 figures!

They don't really go on the value stated. It's based on current market value. Well it does when it is lower than what you originally stated. If it was higher they probably wouldn't.

Struggling to get a quote with LV. They don't recognise my vehicle from the reg on their website. Can't find a phone number for them. Anyway - they charge 5% more if you phone up. I had this issue 2 years ago. I did get through but they said my motorhome (a fairly common make) didn't exist on their system. Didn't fill me with confidence.
that company LV use the name FLOW insurance you cannot phone you have to email them i have asked for proof of NCD
which they sent but caravan guard insurance will not accept their form of proof, because there is no end date

Spoke with Comfort concerning my renewal at the end of March. Aviva have put up prices across the board as labour and especially parts have increased dramatically and thefts have quadrupled in the last year.
I have our house and 2 cars with LV so tried them. Spent about an hour on the phone getting a quote only to find that their underwriters will only insure up to 3850kg, we’re 4400.

HI Lenny does your Motorhome Insurance cover you for a Driver to collect vehicle in Europe and deliver it to your UK address if unfortunately are incapacitated.

I have just this moment renewed my insurance;

So my van's insurance.

I am insured with AIB and have always received great service from them as I've used them before motorhoming, they are Airsports Insurance Bureau.

Received a renewal quote of £412 based on last year's details to be reassessed when I updated mileage and value.

Mileage was easy using the MOT History site.

Value not so easy, it was insured for the purchase price of £25,000 - six years ago, as I couldn't find a comparable vehicle. So I called them back to inform them but for discussion I mentioned that a Motor Dealer had offered me £40,000 during Covid. So I was sent a quote of that value, now £498!

I told them that I had checked my mileage and that was 4,950 for the year, the lady told me that at present I had coverage for 10,000 miles which they considered high for a motorrhome and would I like her to run it again with 5,000 miles. so I said yes and the quote is now, £395!!!!!

So a bit her hand off with the agreement that it would be in my interest to monitor my mileage and call in if I looked like exceeding 5,000.

So I'm quite happy with the result.

72 yo, no points or convictions, only driver and stored on a CASSOA Gold Site.

Seems that increased value rockets up the premium - no surprise there.

Low mileage plummets the premium - I was surprised by how much.

Thoughts please? Comfort Insurance quote; Two drivers, UK and European breakdown cover including trailer £397.89. Me thinks that's not bad.

Hi Tony, that's a very good quote I am also with Comfort with a M41 post code and have just renewed for £427 with a value of 75k but only one driver so if you are in a M post code snatch their hands off .

Thanks for all your comments. Just to inform of the result of this question.

I contacted Adrian Flux, tried LV but failed, CCC and a few other comparison sites. Quotes ranged from £400 to £2000 and a couple of 'cannot quote' so ended up staying with Comfort at £428 but also added UK and EU breakdown cover for £78.

£60,000 value, parked on driveway. No tracker required.

Currently don't have a licence to drive it.
