3 years 30,000 miles UK and Europe.. Campsites and off Grid.
I bought my motorhome brand new in March 2021. Insurance cost with Comfort was £341. No previous motorhome driving experience. 8000 miles limit.

March 22 it went up to £387 although I did increase miles to 10,000.

March 2023 Comfort have asked for £428 for same cover as last year.

Is this reasonable? 2 years of driving experience, No claims and a another increase of over 10%. Is this just inflation?

Also, is this a reasonable price for 60 year old in a £60,000 van parked on my drive. (I know - area can affect premiums). Just don't want to over pay.

I will be picking you my first motorhome in the next 2 weeks and I will be in it full time so this is interesting. It’s a 2006 Bessecar E695 which I think the base is a Fiat Ducato ???
I’ll be in Europe a lot and breakdown cover is a priority for me so can anyone advise who includes this in their policy when you folks have been getting quotes ? I’ve a note of all the companies in the post so I’ll report back on prices quoted 👍
Full time?
if you declare this (and you should) the numbers of companies quoting can be counted on one hand if not one finger.

I renewed my Rapido 924F 2015 model in January withMotor Direct (A-Plan Motor Direct) for £225 with 9 years no claims. It is parked on my drive in Devon.
I checked other insurers and this seems to be a competitive price.

Steve-N trends are interesting, since 2018 (no NCB) my insurance has moved +- £20 each year until last year when it went up due to increasing the value but mitigated by removing European cover. So renewal this year was a bit lower than 2018 but increased by £80 when i added euro cover again (inc breakdown)

About to pay my policy with C&MC. 2019 Autosleeper Corinium. Me 51, hubby 53. Had a claim last year costing £7031 yet the policy has only risen from £385.12 to £397.67. Couldn't believe it, was expecting a massive hike.
We have separate breakdown cover & don't go abroad.

that will be £80 extra as storage is more of a risk than on the drive.
.
My storage has several access barriers (more after dark) razor wire, cameras, and the owner lives on site.

Hard to see how thats a worse risk than on driveway with joe bloggs walking past at all hours . . . .

I'm with Adrian Flux for insurance: was 3000m annual limit. ( £350 ish )

but coz I have to drive it up & down the M1 to keep Batts charged, - limit increased to 5000 p/a

Flux wanted extra £175 for the increase, I paid it, coz mid policy.

But I will definitely be shopping around next renewal.

Comfort sound cheap, but you never know if insurance is any good till you try to claim !

On breakdown cover I have a Nationwide Plus account that costs £13/month and includes Travel Insurance, Breakdown cover and mobile phone cover.

But there are limits to age and weight of the van. Plus do a search on here for horror stories of women being left alone at the side of the road for many hours waiting for breakdown cover that never arrives, even after a few calls. As has been said cover is only a bargain if when needed works as expected

My situation is very similar - but I have a 2019 690G, I'm 73 parked on my drive and 8K miles per year
I've not kept a record of my payments as they have never been surprising and I've been reasonable happy with the price each year
Mines due in March so I'll keep this in mind. I did pay £406 including £65 European breakdown cover last year - so £341

I've just gotten a quote from Lv
Insurance for the year but with £600 excess has ben quoted at £287.78
European breakdown cover is more expensive at £100.

Total for 2023 is now £387.78 and only a bit of a saving

I'll see what the Comfort renewal comes in at

Comfort don't class my driveway as a driveway so wouldn't quote me 🤣

Might be worth looking at CaMC ? . . I've just paid £260 Inc EU cover, £300 excess on a brand new van, parked on my drive

How would they know what your drive is like?
Would they check it on Google Earth?
I live in the upstairs of a house that has been converted into 2 x 2 bedroom flats.
The drive has room for 4 vehicles, 2 spaces for each flat.
As the downstairs flat also has use of the drive Comfort says it's not a drive but a communal residents carpark.

Mine was £570 with A plan underwritten by L&V, stored on the path until I find storage. Found storage at a CL within walking distance called them up to inform them of the address, that will be £80 extra as storage is more of a risk than on the drive.
That’s odd as mine went down quite a bit when I put it in a proper storage site CaSSOA Gold Rated.
On top of that my home insurance would have increased if I kept a MH on the drive (do people inform their home insurers that they have a MH on the drive) as it’s a big signal to any low life on the prowl and tells them when your house is empty when the MH has gone.

I've just realised that the value of my van has increased way above what I paid for it - more than 10% :clap2:

I shouldn't be so surprised

They don't really go on the value stated. It's based on current market value. Well it does when it is lower than what you originally stated. If it was higher they probably wouldn't.

Just make sure they know that it has increased

LV are excellent, but I thought they sold policies direct?

Struggling to get a quote with LV. They don't recognise my vehicle from the reg on their website. Can't find a phone number for them. Anyway - they charge 5% more if you phone up. I had this issue 2 years ago. I did get through but they said my motorhome (a fairly common make) didn't exist on their system. Didn't fill me with confidence.

If you select Fiat and scroll down the models it states and lets you select 'Motorhome' ---- It caught me out at first

I did that but they seemed to be specific motorhomes that didn't look anything like mine.

Last week Saga quoted me £750.
I took the renewal price of £260 with my present insurers Principal.

Hi headlight, have you got a link or phone number just got renewal from Comfort £401 , safeguard quoted me £885 , caravanguard £548 with bonus protection euro travel legal but when I mentioned comfort they came down to £486 .

No idea what they're like as last year was my first year with them and I didn't make a claim.
My renewal went down £60 from the previous year.
I don't have breakdown with them just insurance.

headlight just read reviews on trustpilot in a word TERRIBLE so of I was you I would keep away thanks anyway. Paul.

They just quoted me over £1000

I have insured with Comfort for many years and no unreasonable increases in premium. Its up for renewal next month so I will see. I had a claim for 7k a few years back (a bit of Rapido plastic trim) and that only increased it for a short while. I have their European breakdown cover and have called them a few times too with satisfactory service.
Fingers crossed for this year, risk should have been low last year as only got away for about a week and a few hundred miles.

In terms of storage it seems very postcode dependent. Your storage may be like fort knox but if its in an area they view as risky then the premium goes up..

Tried it again. You select Fiat and under motorhome you can select motorcaravan. Then you have to select 'car' and you get a random list of stuff of which none is applicable (see below). It really is a rubbish website. Others manage to identify the vehicle easily.
