A little different today.

I tried one of these, didn’t want to turn left, loved turning right........stupid place to hang an engine anyway!

I've had loads of bikes and three of these.... The BMW R1100S. I had two of the Mamola versions like this and one of the later red white and blue ones (much taller) but this is the one I should have kept because of the all the bling on it.... Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

How about a halfway house? Scooter driveline but telescopic forks 3 discs and 16" wheels , 300 so goes fairly well and just fits in the garage.

Photo taken around 1945 of my late father's 1937 Norton International.
Bike still shows on the DVLA website, last Log book issued 2012.
Love the Brooklands CanView attachment 386209
My father had the 50's version in the 50's. I never realised until we were looking the other day that they were OHC.

OHC with exposed rockers and valve springs
There was a leather seal to keep the oil in the cam housing.

Yeah....must have been because of the success of the 400 styling in Japan.
The 400's were popular in Japan purely because part of the motorcycle test there is (or was) to pick up a downed bike so 400's were about the biggest that people could lift unaided....

Yes and shaft driven cams, just like my kawasaki W650 and W800.

And us vertically challenged Uk people could touch the floor?

I had a Gray import zxr400 and an imported vfr400 too.....there’s more pictures I need to search out now??

Looking in tonight and saw the pic of a firestorm, might seem odd but I loved mine. First one ‘’97 in yellow carbon cans upgrades front and rear suspension but lucky to get 30 mpg?
Second one 2002 newer version far better went all over Europe and 40-45 mpg ,I love twins especially’V’twins
BUT I would buy another vfr800 the proper cam driven ones.

My first one was in 1st August 1998 - around the TT course, I could just about do 2 laps (75 miles) on a 3. 5 gallon fuel tank less than 25 to the gallon! On the mainland, as you say, lucky to get 30 - but what a great bike in it's day

Then I tried the then new GSX-R1000 K1 which was absolutely head & shoulders above anything that had gone before - one half hour test ride & I bought one - might post a pic of it tomorrow

A very plain underrated bike the firestorm, as with any bike it’s what you want to do with it and how it makes you feel. I had a 1990 gsxr 750 looked ace but god it was uncomfortable below 70mph

I took one out while my Wing was being serviced. I rode it from Keighley to Haworth, a distance of 4 miles and parked it up for the day. I have to agree it was the most uncomfortable bike I have ridden. Stiff neck, stiff wrists, the bl**dy thing didn't want to know bellow 5K revs then it was as if you had just thrown an on/off switch. Not my idea of fun.

Yes when I rode my wife’s r6 it was gutless until it hit 10k much prefer power lower down,
