Friday cat curled up and died on the settee 🌈

But MIL now home and improving quickly 👍
Sorry to hear of the cancer David . Where is it?
The vans not so important now just get it fixed and it's only money

Funny, all these items are MOT fails yet no mention at time of MOT.
I would take it elsewhere to see what another garage says.
As you say the only fail on the MOT was prop shaft everything else was advisories and as advisories in previous years.
I wouldn't be happy !!

not long enough
These threads always bring out the ‘get it done somewhere else’ posts

Obviously from people with both more mechanical knowledge and ability than me and probably others on here who like me are already feeling slightly inadequate 🤔🙁

Some of us can do, the rest of us have to pay to have done 🤔😁

On reflection I reckon the whole bill whatever it ends up at will be fraction of the tax saved over the years running the MH through my business so it’s probably a bit of Karma 🤔😁

I will just have to buy cheaper gin , there is always a way to view things differently 🙂

Failed MOT at our local MOT garage who have done the last 8 MOT’s on MH

They don’t do repairs

Then drove it to Mertrux for prebooked service and added prop shaft repair as the MOT failure item 👍
That's what I'm getting at, the garages failed it on one item, the prop bearing
The main dealer invented the rest, as every other item would have been a failure but it didn't fail on those items....only the prop bearing.
I wouldn't trust a main dealer any further than I could throw one.

They weren't even advisories, just no mention.
You can't put an advisory on heavily corroded brake pipes or an insecure exhaust....and to miss them you'd need a guild dog and white stick.
Dealer rip off.

Yes, thank you
Your brake pipes even you could make yourself, Its cooper tubing and a flaring kit with the fittings, look on line, do it yourself for under £100 all you have to do is take of the old pipes ( one spanner) and use as a template for the new!

Once its done it will give you so much fun again and be your easy escape over the next few months
Added bonus the taxman isn't a member on here so they don't know about your savings
Hope all goes well

I think Mertrux are taking the piss with what is clearly a long standing customer who they know isn’t clued up enough to question their advice.
The MOT failure retest will only check the items failed if returned within IIRC 14 days but in any case you are legally allowed to take it for MOT repairs when out of test provided the defect/s are not dangerous.
Plenty of SS exhaust specialists if you google and will be a lot cheaper and more importantly quicker to get replaced.

Took my VW T5 for an MOT at a different garage than my usual, it failed and they quoted £995. I took it to my old garage ,same work was £820.

For 3grand, I would have thought you could get a Stainless Steel exhaust system from a S/S specialist.
Mine has no Cat or DPF but only cost £600 about 5yrs ago.
Exactly what my pal did.
Hand made stainless steel exhaust (full) system, £700.

Getting Better
In hindsight David you should have asked on here for a decent recommendation for a garage but I can understand you wanting to get it sorted yourself….

But then again your probably not thinking straight lately and hope you get it all sorted… including your internals…❤️‍🩹

As you say David it’s not going to change your life, look after yourself and your second wife as your health is so much more important than a few pounds.
Hope you’re on the road to recovery soon

Totally agree, not really the place to chastise anyone for their decision making.

As the saying goes you can’t shut the stable door after the horse has bolted.

Hope all goes well health wise and enjoy the Moho when you get it back 👍

I appear to be in good company

You, me and the king 😁👍
Sorry to lower the class average.
I've had 'the' Prostate as well.
I was lucky. They (and me) didn't know I had it until they took some out and 'found' it.
And then, when they tried to find out how bad it was they discovered they'd taken it ALL out.
12yrs later I still have the PSA of a 20yrs. old.
(Shame I haven't got the 'virility' of one.)

These people are brilliant a complete overhaul of the Propshaft at a fraction of what a dealer charges and incidentally all the dealers send them in and then charge the victims the price of a new one.

We have used them for years and must agree they are brilliant. We have them repair props from big muckshifting dumptrucks to car size.

Prostate, so hopefully easily treated and fully recoverable 👍🙏
Walk in the park. Around 12 years ago what looked like a spot on the underside of my joystick turned out to be penile cancer. I waited a year or so to see if it would disappear. It didn't so went to the doc & following a referral and MRI was diagnosed. I lost the best 2" I've ever owned + a lymph node. Five years of follow- ups and no return. It was a painless op done by Christie in Manchester. And I can still pee as normal (although accuracy has suffered somewhat). Good luck with yours.😉
