Morocco in Motorhome for 90 days

Morocco, I’m just not sure or convinced. Seems a bit medieval to me. Not sure I could cope with the hassle.

I have been looking at our usual trips to our house in Spain. Along with our motorhome treks. As we both still work, I think we can still get by the 90/180 with a few tweaks.

Ski in UK Or fly to non Schengen.
Swap a winter trip to Spain for Abu Dhabi where two of our daughters live.

The Schengen calculator that was linked above works.,but I’m trying to find a reliable app where I can save the data.

I’m now officially confused

But have you actually been there? We've heard this comment time and time again but most have gone on to have a wonderful time.
But we also know of folk who didn't enjoy and we're okay with that, everyone has different opinions.
All I say is do some research, checkout the various threads. We can't wait to get back.

In reply to Euro Trotters...
1) I dont have a house in Spain, I think if I did then I would not have a motorhome.
2) I have never wanted or tried to ski. At my age it is out of the question.
3) Why would I want to go to Abu Dhabi when Europe is on the doorstep.
I genuinely asked for advice from good people on this forum regarding visiting Morocco when 90 days are up in Schengen countries. I do not want to ski or visit Arab states.

Hi,

I replied re Morocco and I was referring to the 90/180.

Im not a fan of the Arab world. But will visit to see family.

Appreciate the replies but wanting a bit more meat on the bone in relation to motorhomers experiences in north africa.
Many thanks for the info.

The thing with Croatia is it's not very warm in the winter, average temperatures are between 2 and 9 Centigrade, whereas Morocco is between 10 and 19 Centigrade.

Heres a handy map

Anything not purple is not included in your 90 days ....i plan to explore further afield , turkey , Georgia , adjebazan ( cannae spell it ) ....very popular with french and germans. Also plan to explore Romania Bulgaria etc the problem is timing as it seems winters arent so good north of the peloponnese

Not done Morocco yet either but will get there one day ....although not sure if spending a full 90 days there is good for a first trip just incase i dont like it

Keep your options open by going there first then; then you’ll have most of your Schengen ninety days still available if you can’t hack it. Simples.

We went to Morocco some years ago, on a trekking holiday. We had a brilliant guide, who is our friend for life. We've kept in contact with him ever since. We had a brilliant time, met locals in far flung villages, and loved every minute (even the trek toilets 😂😂).

However, I'm still reluctant to go to Morocco with our motorhome. We like to leave it parked for hours to go hiking or biking. In some places, especially in the anti Atlas where we were on our trek, there would be absolutely no problem to leave a motorhome for a few hours/day/days even. BUT you're not always in such a secure environment if you want to do our activities. If you don't want to go out and leave your motorhome, I reckon you'd have no problems.

We hope to go back to see Mohammed again one day. With motorhome... not sure!

Being a Spanish resident makes our need to be in another area less urgent though.

I think there is less crime in Morocco than Spain,,,bet someone will prove me wrong though..BUSBY.

I suppose it always depends on what part of Spain or Morocco you are in to decide on crime figures.

Even though we're not sure about going to Morocco in our motorhome, we definitely wouldn't think of leaving it anywhere near Barcelona or any big cities.

But, off tourist route villages, anywhere, are the best 👍👍

Can't wait to go back to Morocco or Romania/Bulgaria for that matter.
Some really informative threads and photos on here about Morocco.

Just have a slight apprehension that in future these places might be full of people who don't really want to be there, are not really enjoying the place and can't wait for their 90 days to be up.

Do the hokey cokey and turn around
Ha Ha. That's what I though.

Everyday I dream about Pork pies and full British breakfasts. They can be found in Spain if you need them. I don't need them but I don't like thinking I couldn't get one if I suddently wanted one. I don't think I could cope with Morocco, but only for that reason.

Maybe some therapy or rehab might help.

All the photo's of Morocco i see look good but theres a few bits im dubious about ... and 3 months is a long time.
And then its a long drive to anywhere else thats off site motorhome friendly as Portugal is out and parts of Spain are now following suit. I think the east of Europe is now the place to go

It's only a short ferry ride though. Maybe I'll give it a week and see what it's like sometime.

I’m sure Morocco is a lovely space for some winter action. But - what would one do if following your 90 days in Schengen zone you tripped off there and something changed eg health or government change/coup (not the most stable part of the world is it) and you had to leave. Not possible to avoid schengen on the way back is it? Possible that authorities may be sympathetic but not guaranteed. I suppose similar applies to Croatia too but perhaps less volatile. Blimey it’s a tough call this one unless you leave a spare week or two on your schengen allowance I guess.

Morocco is a very stable country,,,only two terror attacks in last ten years which is less than majority of European countries and let's face it if you did have to return home and break 90 day rule it's not as if it's a hanging offence..Stop worrying over nothing.BUSBY.😁

So, in theory one could holiday in Spain for 90 days then take a boat to Morocco for 90 days then back to Spain for 90 days then over to Bulgaria for 90 days then over to France for 90 days........... etc etc ?
But you would need to come back to the UK for your MOT and you'd have to check with your insurance as well if they'll allow you to do that.
Also travel insurance is questionable too as many won't allow you to take out or renew a policy if you're not in the UK beforehand.

Civil war in the Balkans in 80s. Morocco much more peaceful other than ongoing dispute way down in the south.BUSBY.

Who says regarding insurance? Usually renew mine by telephone whilst away in the van in Spain.Where do these stories come from.BUSBY.

Could also renew on line whilst out of the country as I did the year before last. I did also ring as I added the want to ride motorbikes greater than 125cc. They have no idea where you are and to be honest they don’t care providing you’re giving them money.

Not a story, I've certainly read it when looking for insurance previously, it may be in some and not others.

As I suggested earlier, the wise thing to do would be to head to Morocco in the early part of a trip away when you hadn’t consumed much of your Schengen budget. That way, you have a lot of flexibility regarding when you choose, or are forced, to return. Simples
