Minimum payload?

Fill as full of everything (people, water, fuel, gas, food/clothes/possessions etc.) as you are ever likely to need. Then add an estimate for the wine/cheese etc. for the return trip. That’s the only real weight that’s meaningful.
Amateur answer : Never ever ever sacrifice wine for cheese.
The rest of the answer is correct

Hi to everyone, just had the Van weighed Imala 730 3,500 kg, front axle 1560 / rear axle1960 / full van with full fuel/water, no food /clothes but bit's and bob's in the locker including gas bottle, 3520kg which includes the other half so am I over weight or like the guy in station said you are allowed 5% of 3,500kg so which is true??

The 5% is only a guideline, if you were to get weighed probably depend on which side of the bed he got out. Also not sure if they allow anything abroad.
Our last van we were about 100kg over so we uprated just so we didn't have to worry about it.

If the data on the attached link is right, your Impala is capable of holding 135 ltr of fresh water. By carrying only 35ltr of fresh water, you will give yourself an extra 100kg.

Can you upgrade?
Otherwise the choice would be naked & hungry or leave the other half behind. Not an easy decision...

thanks to everyone, I normally travel without water on the way to site and only a bit on way back, so give's me a little margin , if I go down the upgrade route how do you do it?
not so sure about leaving the other half behind (who would I shout at when I get it wrong:)) the naked bit not a problem ? as for going hungry I can always chew my finger nails or eat chocolate:D .

I'm in France on me todd, left 'er indoors behind, well actually she is in Bangkok.

I've come to the conclusion a 7.5m van is perfect for one, she can get her own.:ROFLMAO:

2 upgrade options, SVTech and John Ruffles, the latter being half the price of the former.

I would venture to suggest that many current Motorhomes nominally 3.5t rated. Will be overloaded, But that is the owners problem, having sold the vehicle the dealer / manufacturer is now no longer concerned that what they sold is probably "not fit for purpose". I have heard of motorhomes with payloads as low a sub 200Kg before a passenger is aboard.

It is my view that a Separate category is long overdue for "Camping Cars" or Motorhomes, drivable on a B licence and with a sensible Gross of 4tonne. Most of the current manufactured chassis combination could carry that without any, or minimal, modification or upgrading. Being categorised as an HGV, is IMV a Bureaucratic stupidity.

The only problem with making a MH specific category is that the manufacturers will then use that as an excuse to cut down on the more expensive weight saving stuff (eg more expansive wall panels etc) and fit cheaper but heavier stuff, thus any extra 'legal' payload originally gained will be gobbled up by them!
